There's just something about finding a way to win and we did. We might face that against a 14 or 15 seed but I feel confident that we would win those games.
I agree 1000%

Most others call it a “bad take” (the currently most annoying, overused phrase)

Are we capable of beating a top 5 team? By your logic, we're not because we haven't.

The key word is "capable". Can it happen? Is the potential there?
I didn't say we were capable of beating top 5 team. Show me where I said that. So no it's not by my logic.

Sure it is. I can agree with that.
I hate to be pessimistic because I hate the up and down comments after a loss or a win. If we win we’re the best if we lose we will get upset. Every team loses and every team has lost and won NCAA for 30 years. We are capable of winning as we kept in line with Baylor for majority of the game while also having a bad game by our best players. Our test will be Michigan Tuesday.

Nebraska and Northwestern are terrible. Alot of teams with great talent, can play horribly and still beat them, which is what Illinois did. Nebraska is 1-12 in the conference. You really think a top 5 team in the nation, that gets taken to OT against them, is playing anything but bad?

If you think we played average vs Nebraska, then we're not a top 5 team. Because an top 5 team playing average ball should beat a Nebraska team by 20+
I don’t understand why half this fanbase is always looking for excuses for poor play/sleepwalking through these games. A true top 5 team is getting Hawkins real minutes against Nebraska, and not requiring Ayo to bail them out in those types of game.

I think we are too but what concerns me is like what someone else said in this thread is that teams with long athletic guards/wings gives us problems. We have to find a way to fix that.

I know I'll get disagreement but at this point in time Curbelo is a liability .

Why doesn’t Kofi pass out of double/triple teams. Frustrating. I’d take my chances on the pass out for a shot vs his free throw shooting
1-Kofi doesn't possess great court vision and the ability to see or hit the open men when he's double/triple teamed or....
2-OA hasn't been able to get thru to Kofi the importance of passing out of the swarm of bodies or...
3-Both 1 and 2.

Which is exactly what Michigan has. Maybe our worst matchup to be honest. Cohawk isn’t enough for them so we will have to leave it to our guards to defend them. Would like to see dmw start over Miller especially for defense need dmw to shoot more tho

I hate to be that guy but it sure seems like the B1G wanted to make sure Michigan State had a good chance at getting in. Refs were HORRENDOUS.

i had a MSU friend text me the same thing, and he's usually a homer. he was trolling me hard on the out of bounds missed calls, for example LOL

I don't know you tell me. 0-2 is a small sample size compared to the 14 seeds we've beaten.
Just my opinion, but this team is volatile enough to beat Gonzaga, yet lose to Akron. On Saturday, they could have beaten anyone. Tonight.....we got down by 20 to a bad team.

On a good note, Missouri is in trouble, so I think that's something that can be celebrated.

Ugh, rough game. Lots of 2nd chance points by Michigan State when our defense clamped down on the 1st shot, that was more frustrating than anything.

I'm hoping Ayo is OK, and wondered if he got his bell rung on that bush league flagrant play. He didn't seem himself after that play.

But it's one game in a tough league, and we're 12-4. I think some folks are getting a bit carried away with the doom talk. Let's go kick the snot out of Nebraska.

This, i honestly hated all of the "OMG make your fts" and such after that because i thought he looked dazed stilll after. Then his shots after just were way off to teh side.

1) box out
2) make your free throws
3) don't let a less talented team muck you up and dictate their slow-mo tempo
4) don't pass up open 3s

On to Nebraska

Underwood's postgame has to be one of the more unexpected, bizarre interviews I have seen. I mean, maybe it's just me but I could almost sense the frustration (not anger, I think that's too strong) under the surface. Maybe I'm making something out of nothing, but his postgame attitude did not match his demeanor from the few times I saw him during the game. And the question about what he said to his boss sitting court side, that was interesting. I'm guessing his true feelings are not as simple as "it was one of those nights," and "we will get them next time." Again, maybe it's me but it seemed weird and certainly not what I expected to hear.
Brad's got to play it closer to the chest than that. He has to keep this one inside the locker room. Underwood really needs to do two things imho. First, they have to improve from the line... A lot. Kofi has to improve from the line... A lot. It's an unguarded shot for gawdsakes. Second, and I really believe this to be more critical, they have to remember to have some FUN while still playing disciplined basketball. We play tight and nervous, we make mistakes, and easy (super easy) shots don't fall. The other team smells blood in the water and the opponents suddenly look better. Our kids gotta loosen up. Izzo talked about it in the pre-Illinois presser. His team is feeling down and Izzo tells them to just play. Play solid defense. Get a rebound. Go down the court and set a good screen. Now maybe that shot falls and you get some confidence. Success leads to more success. Start small and build on it. That's it right there. We beat ourselves and opponents take advantage. We've got the talent. Just play. imho of course.

Wow. I don't. It's a total crap shoot. Which team showed up on which night? The team that played to not lose (and did) or the team that played to win? Man, it's going to be PAINFUL to go thru film on this one and Brad can't just toss it in the garbage and move on. There's a LOT to learn from this. Glaring mistakes tonight. Just ugly.
