Disappointing performance. This was a free throw shooting nightmare. We need to regroup for Thursday and Saturday games.

With all these ratings out there is there a volatility index? You can bet that Baylor and Gonzaga would hate to see us in their bracket because they might see the top Illinois team come in and beat them.

On the other hand, I can see us dropping a game against a 14 seed in the first round.
I can't. We might get a scare but losing would be shocking.

I know he works his FTs but I’m surprised the coaches haven’t been able to fix Kofi’s FT shot. It’s just not smooth. When he’s tired or frustrated it shows more. I can almost always tell if he’s going to make it just watching the way he shot it. Feet are too wide IMO and there’s a hitch before he releases. He’s never going to 80+% but could easily be 70-75.
It's confidence and focus with Kofi. When he's energized, fired up and excited(Saturday), he's more than capable. When he's tired, down and we're behind, he makes Shaq look like Steph Curry. It needs to be addressed because that's going to be recipe for shutting him down. If he gets close to the rim, hammer him.

I think that’s a little unfair. We just got done winning 7 in a row. That’s pretty consistent. Now we have one bad game and we are back to being inconsistent??
We actually had a couple of "near misses" in that stretch. Hand it to MSU, they probably played one of their best games of year. Hopefully they saved some for wolverines.

Ugh, rough game. Lots of 2nd chance points by Michigan State when our defense clamped down on the 1st shot, that was more frustrating than anything.

I'm hoping Ayo is OK, and wondered if he got his bell rung on that bush league flagrant play. He didn't seem himself after that play.

But it's one game in a tough league, and we're 12-4. I think some folks are getting a bit carried away with the doom talk. Let's go kick the snot out of Nebraska.

I don't think you'll see the same substitution patterns in win or go home games? You have to shorten the bench and extend the starters as long as there's no foul trouble.

I only excuse the 5 minute sub because this brutal stretch of games. Every game is important, but you still have to manage these kids health and stamina.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. Usually, that works out OK anyway-gives the other team a different look etc. It just felt like a poor move by Brad early with Curbelo playing so badly. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

This is BU's first experience with coaching a high ranked team in the best conference with 2 potential All-Americans. He did a great job of getting us here, now hopefully he can take us all the way home.

I personally hate the early substitutions when starters are playing well. 5-0 game subs come in less then 3 minutes in and turn it over 2 possessions in a row, don’t get back on defense and just like that it’s 10-5 them and chance of opening up a good lead gone.
Yes a 1000 times. I hate taking 2-3 players out after 3-4 minutes

I am puzzled by Underwood taking the starters out down 10, with 4 minutes plus to go, and going with bench players and offensively challenged players. Why would you take Kofi out after he fouled out two players and was an automatic foul line getter. Yes he got scored on by Henry, but that was one play. Stop switching and hedge the play against them like they did us! Seemed at times like he wasn't putting our best offensive players in for some reason when we needed it! We cut it to single digits and you take the offense out! Why? Smh... I'll digress! Just disappointed! We are way better than we showed tonight! I wish we'd just play basketball and quit worrying about the results! Just play! And let the chips fall where they fall! I hate to see it in the last 40 seconds instead of during the game! Play ball man!

Officiating sucked a fat one but it is not the reason we lost.

Missed FTs, Ayo off game, Kofi foul trouble in the first half and trying to take on the entire Sparty lineup every time he touched it were bigger factors.
We did not lose because of the officiating. But when was the last season that in EVERY televised game the announcing crew has said something about the officiating being so poor...."that was not the right all," or "that was not a foul" or tonight, "Kofi has to be the most fouled player in college basketball that they don't call the fouls for."

well, yes. any 14 seed upsetting a 3 is shocking. but clearly we've shown the ability to play that poorly, although we've escaped with a few wins playing like that.
We haven't shown the ability to lose to a 14 seed. No I'm not talking about MSU. We would be playing a non P5 team.

Now appearing in Tampa
B1G games with Larry Scirotto part of the crew: 3-3
Without Scirotto: 9-1

Get him off our crews moving forward! Didn’t deserve to win this one but the officiating sure didn’t help.
Tired and won out excuse. MSU was whistled for 5 more fouls than us and we shot 14 MORE free throws than MSU.

We MADE 19 and they SHOT 20.

‘splain that one, please

Wouldn't shock me. This team is capable of some pretty bad stretches of basketball even in our wins:

Purdue - gave up a 20-0 run.
Penn State - down 15 in 1st half.
Northwestern - down 15 at half
Almost lost to Ohio
Ot vs Nebraska
Ot vs Indiana

A 14th seed team is likely to be as good as these teams. All it takes is playing poorly, and then not pulling it out like we've been able to so far, which wouldn't be shocking. It'd be more a playing with fire eventually you'll get burned thing. Alot of it will be matchups though. If we get a physical athletic team like the 97 team played vs UT-Chattanooga, it'll be a tough game. If we get the soft teams that don't have much inside and rely on 3 point shooting, we can handle those easily

I don't know, the game vs Ohio is still pretty fresh. We were down with what....a minute to go? When a team misses a ton of free throws, has turnover issues and can be prone to long scoring droughts....that's generally the recipe for disaster.

Someone doesn't understand it's not quantity but when the bad calls were made. Granted we missed a ton of FTs but the officials were bad tonight.

zomg. Well Brad Underwood has to be ashamed of that effort. Sure the last five minutes looked good, but the game was disaster. Can I say one thing Mr. Underwood? TEACH THEM TO SHOOT FREETHROWS. We're a #2 seed that loses to #15 if they play like that hot garbage. Possessions with two or three missed layups. Giving up easy offensive boards to MSU. Terrible shot selection. Missed free throws. I know you can't bench the entire team, but they don't deserve to start. Without doubt the officiating was worse than our shooting percentage (people getting punched in the face with no whistles - JAYZYUZ) but we did NOT deserve to win that game. Props to MSU on coming out, playing hard and executing a game plan. We almost made a game of it, but not really. You don't show up for the last five minutes and deserve to win. Kofi has to learn if he's going to shoot under 40% from the line then he is going to get hammered game in and game out (and deservedly so). He better learn to dunk the ball with two hands exclusively if he can't make an unguarded jump shot from the line and he's not willing to dish the ball outside when triple teamed like that. Curbello was mostly hanging with NBA talent and showed some bright spots in the second half. I can't really think of a single positive thing to say about the first half. If they don't all shoot 10,000 free throws this week I don't know what the hell they're thinking. High school teams shoot better than that. Damonte - shoot the freaking ball; that look you don't think is quite right is about three times better than what Ayo or Trent will have to throw up with two seconds on the shot clock.
