Michigan State 88, Illinois 80 Postgame

While Ty can handle the ball decently and definitely score and rebound around the basket he is not a point gaurd. He doesn't have the vision as evidenced by the times lately he has had the ball on a fast break and not seen the open guys in front of him or just not able to get it to them. Make no mistake I want him on the floor and if you notice he is being utilized much more like a forward lately, which suits him much better. Good thing for us in that Domask has been able to handle the pg position more like what Brad thought Ty would be able to but still not optimal. We just have to work with what we got and hope Brad plays the pieces like a chess master down the stretch to get the results we all desire.

In our 6 losses, our offense was good enough to win 4 of them. The late turnovers were frustrating, but it's so fun watching opposing coaches scratching their head trying to figure out how to guard us.

Just got to find a way to get that defense playing solid. Doesn't even have to be lockdown, just solid.

Don’t quit sports haha.(I know you won’t). But it’s sports, we pissed down our leg today it happens it sucks but it happens. Doesn’t take away from the fact that we’re a very good team capable of beating literally anyone. And I can tell you not one person on this board hates losing more than Brad.

How many broken PS controllers does he have?

Asking for a friend.

Goode was awful today- we don’t have an answer for any team down low

Brad has to adjust- we’re not going anywhere this season if he can’t figure it out- put Guerrier on the big and have Coleman help, dig down on the big, something. Watching Hawkins and Goode get eaten alive on the low post is getting really old Brad

Luke Goode just CANNOT play in the final 5 minutes of games. Ty needs to bring the ball up & play at the end of games…. Say what you want about the players but this game was 100% on Brads ridiculous substitutions. Horrible.
Plus he’s an awful free throw shooter this year- worst on the team and missed a big front end tonight- you simply can’t play him

Iowa yes, PSU maybe, maryland/wisconsin probably not.
Michigan St. isn't an average team. They are solid. Man, so many people on here overreact. I will say we at least split between Wisconsin and Maryland, could possibly get them both, but probably a split.

Why do you think MSU attacked him relentlessly? Because they know he can’t play defense without fouling. The refs were bad but aside from the Coleman tech did not affect us more negatively than MSU.

Goode is a situational player and Brad is playing him like a two way stud.
Yes, but Goode wasn't fouling. Even stepping back and letting them by gave MSU a basket and the and one.

Agree with you, I love Ty's energy, defense and boarding.... but he has to develop a jump shot. If he could just develop a shot similar to the Rev he would be a perfect forward. His inability to shoot as a 6'6" or 6'7" guy is the biggest reason, IMHO, BU has him on the bench in certain crunch times.

Any chance they move Tyler on the bench. You watch any other program in the country and they have experienced coaches next to the head coach, but Brad just has his son next to him.

It's just like the unchecked authority of law enforcement. They know you are powerless.....and this is what you get. 100% ego....0% accountability.
I love 99% of your posts. But, poor take. Lots of friendly neighborhood LEOs that value our Constitutional rights and dont let ego take over. In fact, I'd say, more of those good LEOs than good B1G refs.

*I am NOT an LEO and never have been.

Just got to watch game recording. The missed goaltend on Dains shot was bad but the one on Rodgers dunk was unbelievable. Refs were frickn horrible!

I’m not sure if Ty’s is truly a GT or not. The player’s hand was in the net but it didn’t go through the cylinder. Not sure what the technical rule is on hand through net vs hand through the actual rim.

Getting out rebounded didn’t help.
We definitely didn't have usual productiveness on the offensive glass, which is what makes our offense good. Not sure if Sparty is just way better at boxing out than most teams, but it seemed like our guards weren't even trying to rebound on that side. Maybe that was deliberate to slow Sparty down, or maybe it was just that Ty was sitting on the bench. Either way, it was a tradeoff that didn't seem to work today.

Some of y’all really need to take a look at your emotional swings after wins and losses….it truly is unbearable at times. Look at that little number 10 that’s next to our name…..think about how long we didn’t have any number next to our name….and it really wasn’t that long ago. Brads only loyalty he has is to win games….not to any player or players. And last time I checked he’s won a lot of games here with many different styles and schemes and adjustments. And I swear if we beat Michigan by 20 some of the posters in here saying not having a PG is gonna be our demise will be the same ones saying man Ty and Marcus are the answer at PG!
Michigan got absolutely housed at Nebby today, so I expect them to come in and play us right down to the final buzzer. I'm sure part of that will be giving up a career high to some guy on that roster. That's how we roll.

I don't think the number next to the name matters. What matters is where the team ends up. Obviously there's no excuses this year and the jury won't be out for another month or so.

As far as Michigan goes, I think the baseline expectation justifiably should be a 10+ pt win, Vegas will certainly think so. I don't think that is going to crown any of our guys as a PG answer...

Imagine RayJ with this team. Final 4 for sure. Dudes been killing it at Baylor.
You know what, I've just about had it with this take and the Ty is not a PG doom and gloomers. I'm fairly upset about the loss today as well and think it was incredibly poorly managed down the stretch, but Ty has been fantastic for us. Yes, Ty can't do RayJ things, but guess what? RayJ can't do Ty things. To wit, let's play a game- this is for the entire board. I'm going to throw down some advanced in-conference stats for both players, and you tell me which one is that guaranteed player who'll get you to a Final 4 and which one isn't and should have reduced minutes:

Player A:
1.016ppp, Team +5.8pts/100 when on floor, 1.81a/to ratio, on 23.6% of team possessions

Player B:
1.138ppp, Team +4.6pts/100 when on floor, 1.56a/to ratio, on 20.3% of team possessions

Oh right, and one of these players earns you 3.7% extra possessions (~2.6 per game) when he's out on the court *cough RayJ* and the other earns you 12.9% extra possessions (~9.3 per game) *cough Ty*. I won't post which is which in the player stats as that would immediately identify who is who, but let's have it, who's the All-American PG that would lead us to a Final 4 and who should be playing 20mpg? Player A or Player B? Have fun!

When teams are very equal and the games are close down the stretch you better have a coach that can will his team to finish. It helps to have a pt guard that is a floor general. I wanted us to develop DGL with “some” minutes throughout the season to make him a sophomore this time of year. Podz actually showed it against NW and Brad failed to see it. We did and we’re asking the same questions. Why no Podz. Now it’s Ty. How about developing DGL. How about working with Dain….he is “serviceable”. I’m tired of the same stubborn story from Daddy Brad. We ALL see these things. The bench is too short and most all of us recognize our players are gassed at the end of halves. It’s not too late to change but even if we do, I don’t have confidence that Brad won’t resort right back to it in the tournaments. Always rootin no matter what!!! I still hate Izzo’s whiny a..
