Michigan State 88, Illinois 80 Postgame

Illini meltdown with 3 minutes left dooms fine game from Shannon and Hawkins.

Illini interior defense again way too leaky. Doesn’t seem to be an answer.

Didn’t put the hammer down when the Illini had an 8 point lead.

Illini not even the same team they were for the first 30 minutes of the game. Lost their poise and didn’t play smart when challenged.

Good resume game for Hawkins as he displays both outside and inside skills.
Is it possible Coleman is playing himself into a first rounder? He looks like a damn good pro.

Really want to know if Ty was hurt or something. Makes no sense

If we were losing, sure have Goode in for shooting. But needed to have Ty in for his rebounding.

I know we wanted shooters surrounding Coleman and that’s what got the lead. But once MsI adjust and we got said lead, we needed the rebounding

This is one that we let get away.

What has happened to our defense. We let a mediocre shooting team shoot over 50% again! Who is in charge of the defense? Too many buckets again down low by the opponent.

I'm as big of a BU supporter as there is, but I'm so disappointed right now. I just don't get it.

I also still think it's weird that Harmon doesn't seem to come off the floor in the last 10 minutes.

Wow, can't remember a collapse like this one. Not feeling good about this teams ability come Tourney time. Ton of talent, just head scratching stuff happening, actually embarrassing. Basic fundamental clock management. Sickening.

Illinois is the better and more talented basketball team but they've continually lacked the ability to put teams away and it cost them here. MSU clawed their way back in and outplayed them
Earlier in the season we were putting comparable teams away. What has happened since then?

I rarely ever blame coaching.
But if the other team is onducting a dribble drive layup clinic the entire game you might want to damn well do something

How many times will we let a great opportunity slip away late before we’re all just prepared for it to happen in the First or Second Round? Running out of time to figure this thing out … way too much talent to blend in with all the other good-not-great teams we had sent home before the Sweet Sixteen.

PLEASE let us not see this kind of panic from the Illini in the Dance tournament.

This is a veteran team. Well, at least they are supposed to be.

Typically when I want to close a game out, I want defense and rebounding in there.

The reffing was indeed horrific for both sides.

But this game was winnable, although I penciled this as a loss at beginning of season.
Just shows that players and coaches both have to be on top of their game to win these types of games. This is a type of game that will mirror a game in deep March.

BU has to make smarter and quicker decisions.
Players have to tighten up on D. And enough of the careless, unforced turnovers. It’s gonna cost you a game in deep March.

If Brad can't figure out how to close out games, it will be a quick exit from the Big Dance. Poor play and head scratching lineup choices in the last 6 minutes of recent games is becoming a disturbing trend. No excuse today, we were the more well rested team, and got outplayed and outcoached.
