I don’t especially think that the BIG and any NCAA sanctions really hurt Howard any more than his behavior has already hurt him. The team is probably better without him on the bench anyway. Less distractions.

Can’t imagine the fun the Duke student body would have with him.

And, out of curiosity I would really love to know what the Wisky Asst coach said, because that is what really set him off.

Griffin received 2 games a couple years back for what he did. I believe Diabate was much more demonstrative in his actions and had the potential to cause much more harm... only 1 game suspension does not seem consistent to Griffin's punishment. I would have expected at least 2 games and maybe 3 games suspension.

I can’t wait to hear Kevin Warren stand up and justify this decision.

Throw punches at another player/coach: one game suspension

Sell some shoes and decide to come back to school...give money to charity: 3 game suspension

IIRC, the Kofi suspension came from the NCAA (?), while the MI/Wi suspensions are from the one-and-only B1G office (where low standards are expected/demanded/demonstrated)(editorial comment mine)

One more thought. B10 just set the precedent for players throwing punches at a 1 game suspension. Who wants to bet if it's another team next time they only get 1 game? As I mentioned yesterday, B10 has no leg to stand on regarding discipline from this point forward. One game? Ridiculous.

The positive is that Howard has given significant ammo to other programs he recruits against and further damaged Michigan's reputation. ScUM is a very deserving name for their "programs."

I'm just gonna say it: the whole Kevin Warren thing is the Guenther/Thomas Effect on steroids.

There's of course a healthy dollop of political culture war seasoning there too, but fundamentally this is just people reckoning with how wrong the Towering Sports Genius Jim Delany narrative was for the past decade in weird proxy form.

Warren is a doofus because conference commissioner is a doofus job only a doofus could do. The whole industry has lost its way and no single human is more responsible for that than Delany.

I agree, UM will have better coaches in the next 5 games

I recall 1989 - Bill Frieder / Steve Fisher

I know the comparison is not apples-to-apples as Kofi’s suspension was levied by the NCAA, but the fact Howard is suspended only two games more than Kofi is absolutely comical. He incited a brawl as the head coach of a premier B1G institution. He should have been suspended the rest of the season (including BTT and the NIT) at a MINIMUM.

Am I the least bit surprised? Not at all. Kevin Warren is an absolute 🤡. This conference is in trouble with him leading the way.

Serious question. What’s to stop teams from having preferred walk-ons to be “enforcers” to get one game suspensions by punching opposing players during and after games? Maybe not a serious question after all, but this is the example of what is acceptable punishment? I’m not saying you blacklist anyone, as these are young kids making a mistake in the heat of the moment (I mean you can’t blame them because of their poor example in a HC). But you absolutely should use this as a teaching moment for everyone involved to let everyone know that behavior is unacceptable both now and when you get to your professional job after basketball is over. Poor leadership in the Big10.

And it pisses me off, MI is going to be way tougher without that dude coaching and their 2 players coming off a 1 game suspension. Their Asst coach can coach college B-Ball way better that stupid Howard. He acts the fool and we could probably end up gwtting screwed.

Exactly. People respond to incentives.
