We are way overrated, 1 man show

What a joke, I'm tired of reading about how good we are, prove it 1 freaking time
We have talent...and dont need to be "1 man show".

We have fundamental flaws,... coaching can fix flaws,...., or not.

We'll find out by end of year if this year's talent and team was simply a fake mirage to our glory days or the real deal. We dont know yet.

Apologies, haven't read any posts yet, but he had a great game but Ayo messed up 3 late possessions. They didn't get into possessions quickly, didn't utilize Kofi over these possessions, Ayo dominant. He kept us close but tonight wasn't his night to close.
Yeah once tillmon fouled out I was hoping they would feed Kofi more

Officiating sucked, for both sides but when you make 17/28 on FTs you really only have yourself to blame.

Our offense towards the end was "Ball screen for Ayo and get the eff out of the way". Kid is a star, yes but I would have loved to see Curbelo with the ball in his hands for a possession there.

Underwood couldn't have drawn up that final shot. If he really called a play that had Ayo attempting an off balance 3 looking for a call, then I'm baffled. Just extremely baffled that any coach would draw up that kind of play in any situation.

Miller had a rough game and Giorgi was basically non-existent. Despite how deep this roster looked before the season, right now we only really trust 7. Need more from Grandison and/or Hawkins.

Yes, we didn’t hit our free throws, which certainly need to be worked on. However, to lose like that is infuriating. In NO WAY, is that a flagrant foul. We fought our way back only to have the game taken from us by the officials. I would have been okay (but not really) if we lost not getting hosed. We didn’t play a great game but I hope the team takes this as a wake up call.

From what I watched, yes I am serious. It doesn't mean he isn't a great player, or he isn't capable...it means during this game, down the stretch, in the final 3 minutes, he was terrible. How would you define his play down the stretch?

If “down the stretch” means the last 3 possessions in your mind, then you’re just not giving him enough credit. We were dead, no energy, down 13 and he willed us back into the game. I think the last 10 minutes “down the stretch” he played great and didn’t get much help. Guess it depends how you define that.

This was Ayo in the last 3 minutes...

2:22 - Missed layup
1:27 - Turnover
1:05 - Foul
1:05 - Turnover
0:04 - Missed 3...a running one with 4 seconds still left on the clock.

I love Ayo. But if we go deep in the tourney, this can't happen. He's the leader of the team and the #1 option. He has to step up and make plays himself AND know when he needs to move to ball to another player to make a big shot.

And we can't shoot 50% from the line. Frustrating loss.

Curbelo is still really good though...

It looked like he was supposed to go towards the top of the key over Kofi's screen yet he inexplicably went to the wing still and threw up that shot.

Ayo needed someone to step up and help him win the game at the end, but nobody did. I'm sure this game toughens this team up but I'd much rather have won this one and taken the lesson against Minnesota or something. This is a bummer.

If you turned in for just the last 3 minutes you wouldve sworn we lost the game because of Ayo thats how bad he was in that stretch .

You simply cannot have that many possessions where you don get a shot all and then one of the few you get is a Damonte 3 .

On that last possession you give the ball to Curbelo and if thats the type of thing you were going for it was just a ridiculous strategy the entire last 3 minutes was

Since i haven't seen it said, Ayo's final three was put up in expectation that Mizzou would foul up 3. He wanted to get the shooting foul, but they weren't fouling, and thus an UGLY shot. That the announcers wouldn't figure that out after having just discussed whether Mizzou would foul, ugh.

He had 36 points. I think he will get and deserves the credit thats coming to him. But he also was played a huge part with key mistakes at the end of the game.

Finish.

Its a bad strategy, but the only explanation for that Ayo shot has to be looking for a foul.

That's how confident he is in him making a 3 or anyone else.

Illinois is a very good team, but not Final 4 caliber unfortunately. Just too many flaws. If I had to guess id say they end up as a 4 or 5 seed and ultimately lose in the sweet 16. Still like the direction the program is heading and hope for more solid recruiting classes in the coming years.
Flaws? You mean fts and tos, maybe rebs? I think we can clean that up easily, we good! That was a more positive post than most of yours, appreciated. Remember we're only 6 games in, I'd like to see where we are after 20 before guessing.

The Illini were off tonight for sure. I was happy to see them claw back but Mizzou earned the win in overall hustle and FT shooting. As hard as it is to take now, this game will prepare them to be a better team in the BIG. Easy to be negative but we have only played 6 games! There is a LOT more basketball ahead of us and this is a team that can make big strides. Think of last years early losses and where they ended the season. Everyone chill out.

I just don’t see it happening with this team. Too many flaws to correct.
I see plenty of individual flaws, but the team still seems to trust and distribute. I don't see a lot of team flaws, which means two things:

We should not expect huge improvement throughout the season.

If we see individual commitment to improving, consistency should appear along with production and THAT would be deadly.
