So, I'm surprised Kofi's stuff is still listed for sale on The Players Trunk even after he has confirmed that he's coming back to college. I thought this issue was gonna require an NCAA waiver, and I figure he would have been advised to take his stuff down once he decided to come back to college.
I was honestly tempted to buy the $40 photo but I can't bring myself to buy it until he actually says he's coming back to Illinois. I will believe it when he says it.
Anyone know how these sales work? Only thing I can figure is maybe he already sold everything to The Players Trunk for a lump sum, and so it's out of his hands now.

I don't know who else got it, but the school sent out an email yesterday about ways to set up deals with the athletes and encouraging fans to do so. I thought that was great. Let's start leveraging this thirsty fanbase of ours!
Imagine if we could make Kofi the the top earner in college basketball? Recruits would definitely take notice. If he comes back, I'm willing to do my part

It seems like the writing is on the wall for the NCAA being greatly diminished in its role in trying to control the market for college sports. I suspect we'll look back at the California law and court decisions that forced the NCAA to allow NIL as the breaking of the dam.
I know there are posters who think this ruins college sports, but personally, I don't see how this changes things, other than rearranging who gets what slice of the pie, as well as growing it a bit for the athletes. Hard to tell this early though.

Absolutely no one knows the long term ramifications of the changes made and the changes coming. But there is no use bemoaning any of it because the courts have made it clear the way it was run violated players rights. That can’t and won’t happen. Whatever college sports look like in the future will be more fair to the players. We can choose to be a fan or not, but we are never going back.

I agree with this. NIL really should only affect off the court activities.
I know we all talk about how much money some of the “stars” would make, but I’ve got an idea of someone who could’ve raked:

I think there’s a chance this brings college sports back a little bit. Other than the elite players on loan from the nba/nfl, the true college player now has incentive to stay 4-5 years, build their brand, and cash in on their loyalty and the fan’s appreciation of their loyalty.
Those second level and mid tier guys don’t need to be in a rush to get out to profit anymore. They can do it in school, and if you’re making money, why wouldn’t you stay as long as possible?

A good legal team will resolve this eventually.
Doesn't make sense for schools to make bank on star player jerseys without some player commission.

As someone whose other degree is from Texas A&M, I can tell you TexAgs is ridiculous and an absolute cesspool.
Maybe eventually there will be a solution, but I think for now you're not going to be able to purchase official team gear, including jerseys, with player names.

No an education is not enough when they are working a full time job and making money for the school on top of classes.
Player can always sign jerseys to make money off them.
