I am sure the NIL is affecting the high profile transfers. If somebody will pay you $250k(?) to switch schools and the schools/programs are comparable or it is an upgrade why not. The programs make millions of $, the coaches make millions of $. Glad to see some trickle down to the players.

I am sure I will feel different when one of our stars (no Miller does not qualify) transfers to a rival for more $ but Illini donors need to step up with they want a winning program. I did a Vimeo with Andre and another one with DaMonte. $80 each. Early on I offered Andre to be spokesperson for our company but he was not interested. Maybe they are not allowed to negotiate directly and you have to go thru U if I athletic association.

I saw Andre partnered with credit union.

To me NIL is just making it legal for all the schools to pay their players, not just the blue bloods.

I’m 99% sure that’s not what TC was saying.

Then we're in agreement? I didn't post to be antagonistic, although admittedly I read "legalized cheating" as reflecting poorly on the athletes.

Is there any type of record which compares NIL offerings by school? Do the players even have to report their deals to anyone (other than the IRS)? Must they report to the school, the conference or the NCAA?

Implying more towards recruits. Sort of another way to get booster/middle men benefits to recruits.

This was always happening at dirty schools. Now it is out in open so schools that did not want to cheat can compete.

I have no problem established players getting $20k-$200k. It is the million dollar payouts to kids who have not stepped on campus that amaze me (Alabama QB etc). I suppose people will have to get burned a few times before the payments only go to proven stars. For somebody who is probably not going to NBA or NFL a $25k deal means a lot. With coaches making $5-$10M per year I think its great some is trickling down to players.

I would be interested how much USC is offering an established QB like Oklahoma's Caleb Williams to transfer. As long as money is not coming from the University I am OK with it.

Can somebody who's smarter than me explain why this name-branded merch is always "limited time only"? Wouldn't they want to just make it available all season? Or at least long enough for people to see it and want it? I mean I understand wanting to create some urgency around buying it, but only having it available for a few days doesn't make sense to me.

You said it. Urgency. Plus they are probably bluffing on the "few days" thing. I see brands do it all the time just to offer those same items online or in store.

These kids also don't have the money to order and store large numbers of shirts either. Making them limited likely keeps them from owing the printing company a ton of cash for creating and storing the shirts

Looks like Edgar got some $. I'm curious about this and the terms he left the Illinois team on since they chose to retweet this.

Also, if Edgar can make $$$, no way Kofi wouldn't make bank
Kofi should make plenty of money if he returned for another year. Agents are going to be the key going forward. If he's got a good one, he should be well compensated.

Back in the 50's and 60's my mother was the assistant manager for a department store where I grew up.....They would have sales of Levi jeans with the limited time only promotional sales pitch .......In reality , she told me years later that when the limited time only promotion started they had raised the price of the Levi's by 15 %.........They sold out their Levi's stock every time..................True story...................

I'd be surprised if they don't have a printing company that is just makes them on demand. I, as small business, have this option with a small local printing company.

There are some great videos on youtube on how scarcity and urgency are used in marketing. A couple that come to mind is 'How the Beanie Babies Frenzy Collapsed' and 'The Economics of the Art Market' by Economics Explained. Tactics that change perception of value and availability are both effective and HUGELY profitable, so they've become widely used. If you can generate just a little fear that something will disappear from availability, or that this is you're only chance to get it at this low (smart) price, consumers are far more inclined to buy.

Building urgency is also a great for testing interest. If you are able to reach a certain volume threshold, I am sure you can use historical data to determine how much you will make on future sales of that same merchandise in the next year or so. But this is some high level stuff, and I don't know if most small businesses think about that unless they have a consultant like me lol.
