NBA/Pro/International Basketball

It is a really bad roster. Them and the Wizards. Looks like Detroit could make some hay towards the low bar number of 9 in the middle of January. They have the Spurs and Wizards, but the home spurs game is the 2nd of a back to back.
As flush as the NBA is with talent, the best it has ever been imo, there is no excuse to 3 teams with 5 wins or less.

Some professional soccer leagues have this thing called ‘Relegation’. This is where the worst teams of a ‘higher’ level get knocked down a notch level and the best teams of the next-highest (under) level get raised up.

Time to bring this to the NBA. Since there is no current top ‘lower’ pro league to pull teams up from... send the worst of the NBA to the G-League and bring up a G-League team or two to the Association. That would create some incentive to never tank and bring some sweet chaos to the hoops game.

Or bring some good European Teams into the NBA to replace Relegated NBA clubs. Basketball is already the World’s Second Most ‘Worldly’ Sport (along with Hockey).

Well, if there was an American league to try it, it would be the NBA. They do seem to be the most forward thinking league. Say it was brought up to league owners, is it a simple majority of yes votes to make it happen? Those Windy City Bulls/Pistons games would have some juice.🤣

Before relegation, I have some thoughts on how the divisions, regular season, and playoffs are handled. So much to get into. Maybe another day.

I've been thinking alot about Drummonds 24pt/25rb game last night. Those numbers will be very hard to duplicate night in and night out, but if he continues to be dominant while Vuc is out, I wonder if it could definitely make some teams re-think some things about traditional bigs.

Atlanta just doesn’t have someone to match up well with Drummond, which isn’t the case every night.

That's very true, but his per 48 numbers are off the charts against all teams. Chances aren't high that he can keep that insane pace for a few weeks playing more minutes a night while Vuc is out, but we are talking about a 2nd tier all time rebounder here. There aren't many teams that have anyone on a roster to keep him off the boards. Also helps that no one else on this Bulls team can rebound.

Sure there is. It is caked the economics of the league along with too many subpar front offices. Doesn’t pay to be mediocre in the league, so if your front office isn’t good enough to stop your team from falling to that or at least lifting itself up from that in a year then bottoming out is likely the way to go. That’s likely where the Bulls are headed, and I wish the front office had realized that started the process this year.

Finishing in the 8-10 range in standings unless you have a young, up and coming team or a good team that dealt with a lot of injuries better set off some bells and whistles. Instead Arturas didn’t trade LaVine, Vucevic and Williams in off season, and their value has gone down — and team isn’t very good again and prospects for improvement next year are lessened.

Maybe too early to pull the plug on Arturas, but I have no faith he’s gonna lead Bulls out of these doldrums. He got a rough deal with Ball getting hurt, but his terrible off season has left this team to wither on the vine. And other than the value he got with Ayo in 2nd round he hasn’t exactly killed the draft. I don’t think he’s the second coming of Sam Presti.

So you're saying that the post-Lavine success these last few weeks is fools gold and unsustainable? We shall see.

I guess that depends on your definition of sustainable. They’re in the #10 spot currently. Do I think they can stay there or maybe get to #8? Sure, maybe. Do I think they could get to #5? No. And will this version of this team be better next year. No. So sure, relative mediocrity is sustainable. But I don’t think their Dec play means this team is on the rise making its way to a championship contender.

The Bulls playing well without LaVine and now Vucevic just supports what I said in first post. Should have traded those guys in off season. Now both have lost more trade value. And it certainly appears they would be no worse off now without them all year, and they’d have draft assets.

It’s tough to win a championship, and I don’t expect Bulls to win one or even contend for one every year. But a solid playoff team 8 out of 10 years, and home court advantage in playoffs for at least a series or two for 3 of this 8 years would be nice. Haven’t seen anything from Arturas yet that makes me confident he’s the guy to get us there.

Yes, have to agree, but that die was cast when Arturos, perhaps remembering how good this team was with Lonzo, decided to give it another go. A mistake, as you say. However, I'm a little more optimistic. Right now, the Bulls are beating good teams, and are very fun to watch. With all the different trade scenarios, this could be a different team in a few weeks; although I don't know how much Russell and Hachimura move the needle, but I know I'll be watching.

Hope it would be a simple majority vote. Some franchises don't want the pressure or expense of providing competitive rosters so they would be against Relegation. Because THEY would be the ones to go downward.

Detroit as an old rust belt American city with a long roundball tradition should not have to suffer with a team like they have now. The Jordan Bulls teams (and those pre-Jordan) had some great games against the Pistons. Today, these games with them just have no energy and are a shell of what they used to be.

Before relegation, I have some thoughts on how the divisions, regular season, and playoffs are handled. So much to get into. Maybe another day.

NBA MUST greatly shorten the regular season. It has become a joke with 'load management' and stuff like that. Shorten the regular season and add more playoff games and rounds. That will get the energy up and the juices flowing. And more regular games will have more meaning than now to play for playoff seeding which will incentivize finishing higher in the standings (top teams get byes, etc.).

Some aspects of the NBA are at a top level these days but other aspects are broken. And while the NBA has been progressive on some issues... they have not be on top of others needing attention.

And teams that finish in the bottom three regular-season spots should be prevented from drafting the top three picks each season. Again, do not incentivize failure. They can be part of the lottery but disallowed to get the top three picks. Best they could get is #4.

Any fan of a roundball team at any level should have sympathy these days for fans of the Detroit Pistons.

As a fan of the Bulls and Pelicans... I have no particular love for the Pistons. But I feel bad for their fans (however many of those are still left). They have just witnessed their team lose their 27th game in a row. Not even the Bulls in their worst year ever did that.

No professional sports franchise should ever deteriorate to that level. They are still charging people to get in, right? They have a duty to provide some kind of a product worth watching.

Teams have up years and down years. It happens. But to set up an environment for a team to lose 27 in a row? That is some kind of professional negligence... not to mention a crime against nature for people who invest time and money in following that team.

If this keeps up, the Pistons might have to slink back to Fort Wayne where they first started in the 1930s... except that it’s likely that Fort Wayne doesn’t want them right now either.

This team brings a whole to meaning to the (Pistons) words... BAD Boys.

Or better said now, REALLY Bad Boys.
Their top 8 players in total minutes played are 22, 22, 21, 22, 21, 23, 24 and 20 years old.

They’re trying to compete in the NBA with a not particularly old NCAA team.

Been on holiday with the family and only been able to check box scores recently.

Wow! Oscar Ro… I mean, Tyrese Haliburton had a 21 point, 20 assist game!

I should add, what Halliburton is doing this season is insane. Only 23. The last guy to average 12 assists a game was Stockton in 94/95. The last guy to average 24 points and 12 assists a game is… it’s never been done before.

Magic came closest in his 85/86 MVP season, with 23.9 points a game.

It goes without saying that Halliburton doesn’t exactly have a Kareem or Mailman to be dishing these assists to.

It was a 20 assist, 0 turnover game last night against the Bulls.

Still seems amazing he fell to #12 in his draft class. The 2020 draft class he was in has been pretty meh as only Anthony Edwards, LaMelo, and Haliburton have made an All-Star Game. Bulls took PWill in that class.

Among the things I didn't think I'd ever hear....."former Illini Ayo Dosunmu and Brandin Podziemski gaurding each other" on the Bulls' trip down the floor about four possessions ago.
Speaking of the Bulls Warriors game. **rant incoming**
Absolute disgrace what the fans in attendance did to Jerry Krause’s widow last night. Booing a dead man to the point you make his widow cry and not even want to stand up is so grossly embarrassing for the franchise. Outside of Ayo I hope the Bulls suck for another 20 years now because the fans certainly don’t deserve any success

End rant

Totally agree with the first part, but; are you a Bulls fan?

Last night’s Bulls game is a prime example of why I really don’t enjoy NBA that much and probably why others love it. Bulls lost 140-131 (not an OT game) and had 1 steal while forcing just 3 turnovers.

I don’t know if Bulls have an assistant coach who concentrates on defense, but if they don’t, better get one and if they do, might want to get rid of him.

And I agree with poster about the Krause incident. Completely classless. I have no great love for Krause and his role in the breaking up of Bulls, but there would not have been anything to break up without Krause.
