No issue changing the narrative, in fact, I would love to have crap all over my face for the hot take. KJ succeeds, the Illini program benefits, just because I feel a certain way, doesn’t mean I am rooting against him.

Maybe Coach S will get the best out of him like he has done with many players before.

Watched some of Bulls game last night and if what I saw is any indication, Arturas should be fired if he isn’t planning to tear this team down and tank. I understand that is probably a total overreaction, but I just don’t see how you take Essengue if you’re trying to field a competitive team. I have no idea if he’ll develop into a good player and a key component of a winning Bulls team, but I have a hard time imagining it will be this year. He certainly has some skills but lacks the strength. He had 7 turnovers and I saw two of them and they were directly related to guys being physical with him. Buckle up for a long season.

And only one summer league game, but I noticed the guy who all the pundits said was taken way too early by Blazers, Yang Hansen, had a nice first game. Finished with 10 points, 4 rebs, 5 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks. He did have 3 TOs and 6 fouls in 24 minutes, but pretty good debut.

It's summer league. Much like spring training in baseball, you have to take what you see with an absolute grain of salt.

I didn't know a lot about Essengue but I did think we had Pat Williams at home. I lol'd at the depth chart they showed with Ayo starting, Okoro listed second, then Pat at the 3.

honestly thought Riley would be a better shooter than showed. Basically could be said of every member of our team other than Tomi.

those crafty, inside the arc moves are really what got him drafted, in addition to the idea he's at least capable of improving that shot.

I’m not saying the guy won’t be a good player eventually and it is only one summer league game (which I acknowledged in my OP), but he certainly does not look close to being physically ready to contribute this year. And that would be fine if Bulls were going to tear down and get assets to rebuild for the future, but Arturas and Bulls show no inclination of doing that. So you have a guy who in all likelihood won’t contribute for a year or two on a team that needs contributors now unless the team is tearing down. There is a reason the Bulls have had 1st round picks in positions 11. 12 and 18 of late and are barely treading water, and that reason is Arturas. Looks like more of the same to me — a mildly competitive team and a middling type draft position next year. Whoopee!

I really knew nothing about him either and he could develop into a good player. It wasn’t his overall performance that I have a problem with (it is just one SL game), but a project who certainly doesn’t look physically ready to contribute is a luxury Bulls can’t afford unless tearing down the team. Hope I’m wrong.

talented shot maker does not immediately equal good shooter. both he and ace bailey are prime examples in this draft (although for ace its about shot selection; will's just never been efficient).
