NCAA Tournament 2023 Thread

Most tourney referees will have no clue how to officiate him because he is so huge. The B1G officiating tends to lean towards the side of allowing Edey to do whatever he wants (as we all have seen many times). These refs will most likely call him more strictly, and he will be in serious foul trouble causing them to lose in the 2nd round.

I also think something which isn't talked about much but will be a factor is how much Purdue gets away with on the offensive glass. I feel they got away with a ton of contact (looking at you Furst and Gillis) when crashing the glass but I don't think they get away with it in the tourney.

Might lose the first game
I’m heavily considering Duke as my pick to win the whole thing, and yet yeah, wouldn’t shock me if they lost in round 1. Oral Roberts is really good.

But I don’t think a Duke F4 pick is outlandish at all this year. Jeremy Roach is really, really good. The kind of guard you need to win in March. Filipowski’s really good too, and they certainly have talent. Hot at the right time too.

last year Iowa was a trendy pick and happily that fizzled out quickly :)

Feeling really good about my bracket early on:

Big ten should have gotten at least 1 if not 2 more teams in the tourney this year. In looking at the 8 highest Ken Pom rated teams that didn’t make the tournament, 3 were from the Big Ten. No other conference had more than 1. Rutgers for sure, probably Michigan(pains me to say it) should have been in.

Part of me thinks the Big Ten is underrated, and that the reason for the conference logjam is the perennial cellar-dwellers (e.g. Penn St., Northwestern) getting better/older via transfers and COVID years.

But then I go to fill out my bracket, and I still barely see any of these teams advancing very far due to various flaws.

No way I am picking Iowa playing in Alabama against Bruce Pearl and Auburn... Iowa has burned me picking them in the past and Satan is a good tournament coach. I think Purdue will wilt under pressure with those freshman guards, maybe in round two. I still think Indiana is Charmin-soft and won't get far. No way Northwestern would get by UCLA in round two if they can beat Boise. I am tempted to ride with Penn St. getting to the Sweet 16 (always bet against Marcus Carr) but they've gotta beat Texas A&M first. Maryland is garbage away from home.

That being said, I am an optimist, and I am hoping for a Steve-Lavin-at-UCLA-sort-of-run here for Illinois. Whatever happens, happens, but I would love to have some of these journalists have to talk about how the Big Ten doesn't actually suck for once.

I’m just wondering if anyone is going to make an NCAA IllinoisLoyalty bracket challenge as has been done in the past. I’d do it, but I have no idea how to start it or link it.

Has anyone found a printable bracket that includes the location and tv station/time for each game? I found one for the NIT bracket. I have not found one for the NCAAM.

In case no one else found one either, here is a cleaned up list of game times. Sorry, I'm too lazy to convert it to CT.

Not a single ESPN analyst pick a BIG team for the elite 8. Not one team. Thoughts?

It's an average conference that over the last two years has performed far below average in the tournament. The conference has earned the negative reputation. Have to have to a great postseason to start changing the mentality.
