We are #15 favorite in winning the championship according to Bet365 odds (immediately after Houston).

I love the following first round upsets this year:
- Loyola over Ohio State (especially if their key players are still injured)
- Rutgers/ND winner over Alabama (they beat only great teams and bad teams, and lose to everyone else)
- Vermont to Sweet 16 (though I think Vermont/NM St should have been swapped for seeds)
- Michigan over Colorado State (I don't know why the 3rd best MW team is the highest seeded, but they are overseeded)
- South Dakota State over Providence
- Miami over USC (USC is super overseeded)

Later round upsets I like:
- Iowa and Wisconsin to elite 8, if Davis is healthy (Auburn has struggled of late, LSU is overseeded, USC is overseeded, Iowa State hasn't won in 2 months, Miami is in a free fall, Providence is overseeded, Richmond isn't tournament quality, and Kansas is the most susceptible 1 seed to an upset)
- Tennessee and Texas Tech to Final Four (ok I guess I like the 3 seeds)
- I like the chalky Sweet 16 in the East bracket
I’m selling Iowa. We know what that BTT grind does to a team emotionally. They spent it all this weekend. Early exit for them next week.

-Dayton (Tuesday/Wednesday): Tom McCarthy, Steve Lavin, Avery Johnson, Jon Rothstein
-Indianapolis: Ian Eagle, Jim Spanarkel, Jamie Erdahl
-Buffalo: Brad Nessler, Brendan Haywood, Evan Washburn
-Portland: Andrew Catalon, Steve Lappas, Andy Katz

Agreed. The recency bias on Iowa was strong today.
Same. It's a whole new ballgame for them and everyone else now. You are stepping out of conference and the familiarity and all that stuff goes out the window. Also McCaffery has never been out the second round.
Also damn McCaffery has been coaching a long time. His first tournament appearance was in 1988 with Lehigh. 1988.

Sports media (CBS, ESPN, SEC, ACC, ....) are dogging the B10 for getting 9 teams in. They are all wanting the B10 to under perform. That is why Chattanooga is a popular upset, IMO. With that said, ....

Go Illini and other B10 teams.

Let's get 6 teams to Saturday, and 4 to the sweet 16 (Illini, Wisc, Purdue, ???).

10 years of champs prior to last years... unpleasantness... only 2 failed to make it out of the first weekend. I think last year had much more to do with us playing a bad game against a good team than some sort of systemic disadvantage we had because of playing 3 games in a row a week earlier.

2019 - MSU (2 seed) - Final 4
2018 - MSU (3 seed) - 2nd Round
2017 - Purdue (4 seed) - Sweet 16
2016 - MSU (2 seed) - 1st round (MTSU...)
2015 - Wisconsin (1 seed) - Championship game
2014 - MSU (4 seed) - Elite 8
2013 - OSU (2 seed) - Elite 8
2012 - MUS (1 seed) - Sweet 16
2011 - OSU (1 seed) - Sweet 16
2010 - OSU (2 seed) - Sweet 16

Last season's NCAA Tournament ultimately unfolded in familiar fashion.
Upsets early — hi, Oral Roberts! — before the powerhouses eventually took over.
By the time the championship game rolled around, undefeated Gonzaga and twice-beaten Baylor — two No. 1 seeds — were playing for the title. The lesson, then, is simple: By all means, have fun picking those first-weekend upsets, but in the end, don't be surprised if the champion is a team that's looked like a contender all season.
Who is that this year? Let's take a look at some of the most popular analytical websites for some answers.

Richmond did what SLU failed to do in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Spiders went the distance to win the event and grab the league's automatic berth, which was their only path to the Big Dance.
Their 62-60 upset of Davidson 62-60 in the championship game knocked A-10 cohort Dayton out of the bracket. The Flyers, like the Billikens, had to settle for the consolation of National Invitational Tournament berths.
Oklahoma, SMU and Texas A&M were the next four teams out of the bracket behind Dayton.

Illini, Wisconsin, Purdue and any other BIG, except Michigan

Penn State deserved it. What a travesty.
Penn State's 14-17 record made it pretty easy for the NIT to snub them. The same for MInnesota at 13-17. NIT invitees with the worst records are Vanderbilt and Alcorn, both at 17-16.

If you have Twitter, check out the picture of Kerr Krisa's ankle that he just posted.

Holy moly it is bad. He likely has a grade 3 sprain and I'd be shocked if he plays in the tourney.

I had a grade 3 sprain and was out for 6 months.

My son had one too, doctor said he probably would have been better off to have broken it.

pretty sure NIT requires teams to be above .500 for the season

Not sure if it's bad mojo for me to like this post

But anyway, doesn't look like any sprained ankle I've ever seen:
