The early Lou years were not good. But were better than the 1 year of Gene Bartow. and the last part of the Harv Schmitt era.

View attachment 39255Torvik shows what everyone has been saying - Ben struggles against high level competition. What I didn't realize was this is consistent with his games last year.
His shot selection has been bad lately. He's not a step back guy, so not driving the ball makes him far too simple to guard. He needs a steady dose of booty ball and a true 5 in the game.

I think Boswell is good, he just isn't the three point sniper he seems to think he is. He can get hot and hit a few but we can't have him continually putting up 5 or more threes when he is not hitting. Just kills the offense and any momentum we are trying to build. He has many other ways he can contribute and needs to concentrate on them. I think with KJ being good at step back threes he feels the need to put up more himself.
This. He's built and excels at downhill drives off the PnR. Like a lot else with this offense, when we don't have a big on the floor to, y'know, roll, that's gone.

Here you go again, coaching staff. When they work (like they did for the high school teams I coached for 10 years) just Venmo me $100 and we’ll call it good.

Wondering if anyone else noticed this. I'm a fan of KJ so I'm not trying to place blame on him but I didn't understand why he didn't make an attempt to come and get the ball on the last inbounds play of regulation. I believe he came to get the ball each time before that. Was that by plan that he not have the ball in his hands for the last shot?

Brad is still stuck with his stupid philosophy of chucking threes with no game plan. This team literally just needs to shoots 35% from three a game and they barely touch 20% most games. Brad has done a terrible job but these players are absolute busts. tre white is only good occasionally and kylan makes sure to cost us like 5 to 10 points every game with his braindead. will has had bright moments recently but we need more from all of them.

All I know about this team is we might win every game, and we also might lose every game for the rest of the season. Wouldn't put a bet on this team right now for any game ahead. Could with the Natty and might miss the tournament.Just have not idea what to expect.

It was super weird… I think the plan was to get it in to Rez and then run a fake hand-off to Boz and then option KJ for either a hand-off, flare, or back-cut.
Again, I swear we don’t take advantage of the fact that the inbounder has some leeway to create a better angle to get the ball into Rez. On all of our horrible late game SLOB plays, our inbounder keeps a pivot foot glued to a spot.

It's the NBA and analytics. It's a 2 man game until it's shut down and then you chuck something up. It works well with KJ and Tomi.

When it breaks down, there's nothing. Tonight all it did was break down.

KJ just passed the bus keys into a street drain.
If we had the snipers, maybe the analytics would work more consistently. How many made 3's is Illinois averaging per game? I heard last nigh that Wisconsin is averaging 10 made 3's per game. That surprised me. I have not watched as much college basketball as I usually do.

Imagine your game plan being doing the most of the thing your the worst at.

Worst 3pt shooting team is shooting the most 3pters.

Not to pile on the guy but regarding Carey Booth, can anyone think of the last time a higher profile transfer within Illinois completely fell off like a rock despite some lofty expectations? Alex Legion comes to mind immediately for me. His expectations were higher than Booth's but I don't think anyone expected Booth to be barely playing. We all thought he'd be a solid bench contributor including hitting some 3's, spacing the floor, and rebounding the basketball, and getting 15ish minutes per game. This is a very bad evaluation from our coaching staff. To think what would've happened if Tomi had not been cleared by the NCAA? We are now seeing what that looks like for our post presence. Love Morez but he's just a true freshman and is still developing. We can't expect him to all of a sudden be Kofi-like.

I miss the old days when money was paid under the table....my guess is it was much easier to not pay a player when they didn't perform.

Honestly the problem just seems to be decision making and he also has struggled to finish at the rim.

A lot of turnovers from questionable decision making when he has to handle the ball. Poor shot selection and so on.

I'm so tired of watching him stand in one place and dribble going nowhere and putting zero pressure on the defense before launching a contested 3. It's a bad shot for anyone but he's also shooting below 30% from 3.

Not a fan of Brad being a total d bag in the postgame presser

Calling Derek Piper a terrible player was silly. I’m assuming he was joking but it came off as self serving.

When you lose to a bad Nebraska team, the message shouldn’t be “we aren’t whole” or “my offense gets guys wide open looks even a reporter who sucked at basketball should be able to make a few”.

The message should be “that effort was unacceptable and changes will be made”

Same thing could be said for that 2022-2023 team. We may end up in an 8-9 matchup if Brad doesn't get this figured out quickly.
