I’ll say it again: this team is eerily mirroring BU’s team last year. Some early wins followed by a rough stretch and then rattled off some good wins. Once this team learns to avoid the self destructive mistakes and is ready to play at the beginning of games, they’ll be good.

Oklahoma State beat Wichita State, UConn, and Georgetown in the OOC schedule last year. I agree there are similarities, but at least they managed to win the early OOC games.

Our OOC, assuming a loss to Mizzou, is going to be a killer some Selection Sunday.

Some piss poor basketball IQ exhibited the last few big games at crunch time.

Hopefully, there are some teachable moments that get through...

The guys on the floor now, had less than 10 % of any minutes for us last year. This will take time, inexperienced guys are trying to mesh, the time will come when it does, matter of time, hope sooner than later.

We talk it to death on here, but until we start winning it's all for nothing.

Scary good or scary bad?

If we don't get some size....quality size, we can have five 30 year olds out there, we're going to be bad. Groce's lack of recruiting quality front court players is what is killing us

I say Underwood goes the Lovie route. Only play his guys and hope the others transfer.

TJL, Leron, and Jordan are absolutely not the problem. In no way, shape, or form.

I agree that we weren't left with a very good product. That's mostly on Groce (though he did get Tilmon to commit, and we still had JCL). But we don't get better by running off guys like Black and Jordan and TJL and Finke and replacing them with late project-type commits like Ebo.

New York
KenPom right now has us at 89, Rutgers at 90, and Nebraska at 93.

We lost tonight to #99 New Mexico St.

Rutgers beat #18 Seton Hall.

Nebraska lost by 1 to #8 Kansas.

I think it's fair to say that we'll be in last place in conference in KenPom rankings after tonight.

Can basically write off NCAA tourney at this point - would probably need to go 12-6 or better to make it. The most valuable thing to see the rest of the way is improvement - under the system, starting to execute it effectively, getting better together as a team, stop making the same mistakes, show some mental toughness.

Biggest takeaway for me is PLAY TWO HALVES.

Trent did a good job of getting us back in it, but played some hero ball down the stretch.

We need to mix up the inbounds plays. We run that same one 90% of the time and it was only a matter of time before that pass was jumped

Agree the out of bounds plays need to be expanded. Besides that, what other basics are lacking?

Our interior D isn't great but that's more personnel than scheme imo

Sorry, shouldn't have made that plural, just very frustrated that getting the ball in bounds at the end of the game has cost us 2 wins.

Guarantee a loss to Mizzou. We will be up by 2 or 3 or tied with 2 to 3 minutes left and lose by 7.

i'm not sure that is true. There won't be many, but there are some other pretty weak teams in the BIG besides us.

We have beaten absolutely nobody of any value. We haven't won a game away from SFC. We're already 0-2 in conference. I see 5 conference wins....max.

After Missou pulls our pants down on National TV....the first two months of embarrassment will be complete

We won't be embarrassed by Mizzou. We have had a chance to win every single game. The team just chokes it up.

Mistakes and turnovers happen, but the number and type of turnovers this team makes during crucial points of the game is what’s going to keep them out of the tournament.

This team makes too many dumb turnovers through out the game not just at the end. Every game there has to be at least 3 soft passes that get intercepted. Then at times we try to make the most difficult passes that go for turnovers, instead of just playing simple.

Our hopes for this year Fringe on:

1. Improved, lock down d (especially interior)
2. Improved 3pt shooting
3. Less turnovers

I'll add a few things.

Mark Smith needs to adjust to the college game. He is so lost at times, it's painful to watch. He is our prized recruit -- we cannot afford to see our prized recruit fade into the woodwork.

Need some consistency from Alstork. No, we don't need 18ppg, but goodness......where the hell is his scoring acumen? He misses so many close shots, for a guy known as a rim attacker.

Have to start the games with a sense of purpose. You take the first half off, you're probably going to lose -- even with a good second half.

They need to get Smith more involved on the offensive side. He's typically the cutter that doesn't get a look and then often is standing in the opposite corner. People are questioning Jim, but I just don't see him involved much. His points typically come when they push the ball, not when they setup and run an offense. There wasn't much pushing tonight imo. We need more scoring.

I will say this, if this team ever figures out how to play 2 halves of basketball against good to better teams, they could really go on a nice run.

If we play a first half against WF, MD and now NMSU we're not worried about end of game situations.

I guess you can be mad at the coaching staff. Or you could be mad at the lack of talent. Both the truth is both the players and the coaches are still adjusting to each other. We talk a lot about the players not knowing the system yet. But we forget that BU doesn't know which buttons to press yet either. Earlier this year, BU tried to close games out with Alstork and Tejon. That didn't work. Tonight he tried putting the ball in Frazier's hands, that didn't work. The players don't know how to win yet, but the coaches don't either. And there's nothing wrong with that, it takes time and nobody knows how long.

As for talent, yes we need more of it, but if the players and coaches were comfortable with each other and on the same page we have enough to make the tournament. I'm not giving up hope yet, but it's obviously an uphill battle. Things could click tomorrow or it might take another 2 months.

If we win 4 or 5 we won't be in last. Yea, we'll probably lose to Missou too, but it won't be a blowout. Just another loss.
If your Illini fan, being embarrassed is nothing new. Hate to say this, but you should be getting use to it.

Hate to say it fellas, but Finke cannot play the pinch post.
He takes too long to make decisions, hasn’t shown much ability to pass well, and is too slow of foot.

Unless he finds a way to improve a big wrinkle in the offense will not be so effective.

We should have never been in the position where we needed a last possession to take the lead. Turning the ball over on an in bounds and losing the game because of it shouldn’t happen TWICE in a season.

We’re going to take some hits this year.
