There's a real sharp divergence in where Spoon falls in the CB rankings between evaluators who focus heavily on athletic measurables and projection, where Spoon didn't run at the combine and has non-prototypical size/bulk (and other top corners have measured really well in a great draft at the position), and those who focus heavily on grading the tape, where they're just gaping in awe of the Sistine Chapel of corner play in college football.

Divisiveness is probably a good thing for his draft stock, since some team will fall in the latter camp and want to go get him early.

spoon not working out at the combine was all likely orchestrated by his agent . after the year he had , he didn’t need to .

he’s a top 10-12 pick regardless

I'd be shocked if the Bears took 'Spoon in the 1st round. CB is not a need for this team. Help on the O-Line and D-line are bigger needs. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up going somewhere like Detroit, Philly, or Vegas.

A gamble, but I agree, probably a sensible one.

Fun contrast with Christian Gonzalez who put up freakazoid numbers at the combine but they don't fully translate to the film.

I've become pretty agnostic over the years as to which of those archetypes I'd rather draft, personally. In any event the Bears aren't going CB.
