What a great week for the program. This staff puts players in the NFL!!! Who is next???
This worked well for Pierre Thomas.
Oh I completely agree.I'd be absolutely shocked if they cut Mixon after this season. It'd take an outstanding performance from Chase or one of the other backups for that to even remotely happen.
And as another pointed out, Perine signed in Denver in the offseason.
Dabol seems like a good coach of QB. Hopefully good for TDV.
Oh I completely agree.
But the contract does not tie them to the 2nd year, in case this coming year doesn’t work out for whatever reason…be it age, injury etc.
different than say this year where they owe like 10 mil guaranteed.
It would make a great article. Top illini drafts of all time.Best Illini draft in years. Good job to the players and coaches for making this possible.
1996 was a big one. Simeon Rice and Kevin Hardy 2 and 3. Not many beyond that, though. It would make a great article. Top illini drafts of all time.
I am going to assume that is not the right $$ #'s. The NFL has a base salary minimum that keeps raising each year per the CBA.
He can be a nice piece for the Bengals as he could be a third down back as he is great in the flat and has the ability to avoid a big hit. When they initially signed Mixon to an extension back in 2020, it was for 4 years, not 2 years. His cap hit next year will be $13 million. They won't be cutting him anytime soon.
yeah I was wondering how Northwestern had 4 players drafted yet they were terrible- did they just have bad chemistry?sorry, can't resist (and I'm a Northwestern grad too):
the base salary only kicks in if you make the 53 man roster .I am going to assume that is not the right $$ #'s. The NFL has a base salary minimum that keeps raising each year per the CBA.

So tryout is below UDFA. I assume the difference is tryout has no $ tied to it?
This is correct. Undrafted free agents are looking at $10k to $20k to cover expenses with their shot at making the team. Had a neighbor who's son played for MSU and was in Vikings camp as an UDFA a few years back. Didn't stick.the base salary only kicks in if you make the 53 man roster .
Even the guys on the practice squad dont get that.
Guys invited as UFA's to camp basically get a small signing bonus and stipend to pay for rent for May - July .
I'm not sure where you're getting that info. Tons of UFAs in the league. Not sure what the date on this article is, but it was 486 throughout the league. Of course, kickers and punters are a significant part, but to call it rare is just not accurate.the sorta good news for some of these UFA’s that don’t stick is there are two professional spring leagues now , but they don’t pay much .
there are great stories of an UFA making the team and playing a few years , but that is even more rare than walk ons in college getting scholarships
Late round draft picks get cut routinely. So UFAs aren't that much different.besides special teamers, it’s rare for UFA’s to have meaningful careers in the NFL .
many position players who are UFA don’t stick very long . even late round draft picks will get cut now and then .
I was not clear .
it’s simply a hard way to make a living regardless. awesome for those that succeed .
yup , not unusual for a 6th or 7th rounder to get cut. and I recall David Williams, a 3rd rounder out of UI cut by the Bears in 1986.Late round draft picks get cut routinely. So UFAs aren't that much different.
The NFL has the most churn of any of the leagues because of the way their contracts are structured as well as how common serious injuries are.
As to being an UFA on a NFL squad, it's certainly a lot less hard than your suggestion that they go to a spring football league.
