Just piggy-backing on Champaignchris' comments, lets just assume (big assumption) that Trubisky plays the final three games like he has played the last two-pretty efficient, not bad. Do they transition tag him for one more season? You can't possibly go into next year with Foles as your starter, can you? Where they are going to probably be drafting, I don't think a qb who can come in and start in year one will be available. Plus you have to upgrade the o-line in three spots, if that's even possible in one off-season. Plus the salary cap goes down $20 million. Plus you already have a ton of money invested in the defense. I think you can probably forget about signing Robinson, unless his market value gets driven way down by the new cap. And by the way, how damaging is that Detroit loss last week in terms of making the playoffs now the way things are developing. There's a lot of stuff going on here.

I don’t think they could franchise Mitch even if the wanted to. I don’t think they have the cap room and he’s not worth franchise tag money anyway. They are also on the hook for Foles’ contract whether they keep or release him. So franchising Mitch would just be doubling down on all of Pace’s mistakes... putting way too many resources into mediocre to bad qbs.

So Mitch will hit the open market. The Bears could look to extend him, but other teams could very well out bid them. I don’t know if the Bears would be able to pay him what the Raiders gave Mariota while making the other improvements they need to make.

So the maddening thing about the Bears qb situation is that they’ve basically cornered themselves into having to keep the older, more expensive and worse qb while getting rid of the younger, cheaper, better qb.

Neither guy is going to start for the next Bears Super Bowl team, but this is not the way to get better.

I thought Foles was only a 1 year hook, now I hate that trade even more!

edit: Per sporting news, $4M of 2021 is guaranteed, and $1M of 2022. For those numbers, it may be worth trying to trade or dumping him.

Although I guess in terms of the o-line, they may have found something in Mustipher, which would allow them to play Daniels and Whitehair at guard.

Cody Parkey has appeared on my TV tonight. I am enraged, look forward to the Browns losing, and am thrilled that he just missed that FG.

This Sunday's game vs. the Vikings will effectively serve as an elimination game for both teams. The loser of the game has the potential to be down 2 games to Arizona with 2 games left to play if the Cardinals defeat the Eagles. The Bears would effectively be 2 games behind Minnesota if they lost as the Vikings would have the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Bears up 20-10 at half. Bears offense has looked good for the most part today. Defense has mostly been able to limit Vikings though Cook's numbers in the first half are a bit concerning.

Whew. The tip on the hail mary did things to my heart. That was way too close.

But the Bears win and are some how still in the thick of the playoff race.

Bears just barely survive. Offense under Mitch has looked better the past few weeks. Could end up coming down to Week 17 vs. Green Bay as next week at Jacksonville will be against team that has likley mailed it in for the season based on how the Jags have looked the past couple weeks.

I do think we'll make it to 8-7. Among other things, Jax is in the hunt for Trevor Lawrence.....

Nagy looks like a real chump now that Laser is actually constructing a game plan and calling plays that this personnel can be successful at. Nagy should be launched for sure at the end of the season. But he probably won't be.

Honestly, (warning, hyperbole) I thought I could have put together a better game plan last year. Heck, I would have preferred drawing it up in the dirt, versus some of what Nagy was doing. OK, I'm going to roll right, you two, clear out the zone, TE, drag across the center to the opening, 8 yards.

Totally.

He was hired in part to specifically get the most out of Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky was already there. It was part of the job description and he just refused to do it for a year and a half. And he didn’t relent until it was clear his job was on the line.

It’s extraordinarily frustrating because it looks like the Bears are on their way to a second straight .500 record and playoff miss. If Nagy had tried at all to play to Mitch’s strengths, the Bears would likely be looking at their third straight winning season and no one would be saying anything about Nagy’s job security.

Trubisky is not a great qb. He shouldn’t have been taken with the second overall pick. But Pace had a much better argument that Nagy misused the player he was provided than Nagy’s argument that the qb he was given can’t get the team to the playoffs.

The million dollar question after all that---Where do they go from here?

I was just looking up some stats-Mitch on Sunday became the sixth Bears' qb to go over 10,000 passing yards and has a chance to move past Erik Kramer to number five on the passing yards list if he can get about 490 yards in the last two games. He's also the highest rated qb in Bears history at this point. Wow.

As one of the guys on the Score pointed out, the Bears offense became succesful once Nagy "fired" himself as the playcaller.

Bears get some help from SF as they beat Zona 20-12.

They now just have to win tomorrow and next week against GB to qualify for the playoffs. Beating GB is a rarity these days, but they could very well be resting starters next week.

EDIT: If Bears beat Jax tomorrrow, they could lose to GB next week and still get it in as long as Zona loses to the Rams. Bears would have the tiebreaker with them if both teams finish 8-8.

This is pretty much it. Bears are in if they beat Jacksonville and Green Bay OR if they split and Arizona loses at the Rams. The tiebreaker the Bears own over Arizona is the common games tiebreaker. Bears are 3-2. Arizona is 1-3 with the Rams game remaining.

Also, don't be surprised if Bears-Packers next Sunday gets moved to a 3:25 PM kickoff.

Bears also catching a break tomorrow with ISU alum and top rookie rusher James Robinson ruled out for the game.
