Northwestern 96, Illinois 91 OT Postgame

Entertaining game. But it was winnable if they make their easy, unforced shots. And tighten the defense up, especially on the slashes and switches.

This is why I love college basketball. But games like this is hard on my heart. Like I said, terrible week to stop sniffing glue.

Let’s just not Lose to the Loosiers please.

Okay, here’s my positive spin. The following two things were going to happen, IMO:

1. We were going to lose a non-Wisconsin road game.

2. Whether we survived or not, we were going to have an off night on defense where an opposing offense went off.

A lot to be frustrated about, but let’s hope we got both out of our system while it’s still January and in a game that’s considered Quad 1. Let’s move forward.

Also, TSJ looked more rusty than phased by the opposing student section … he actually seemed quite MENTALLY poised, JMO. He’ll get back in a groove, and so will we. This is still a team with a very high ceiling … Purdue went down in the same gym.

With that said, we need no more letdowns to keep pace. We just used our second gimme … of two! To get “ahead of schedule,” we also need to beat either Wisconsin or Purdue.

Move forward.

interesting to me that the play at the end of regulation was drawn up for domask. couldn’t tell if we just ran out of gas in OT or something else happened but we definitely looked a step slow

It’s not like they were open looks. They were pretty well contested for the most part. Just got hot at home
I disagree. You defend well when you actually play fundamental and get your hands up. It’s not good enough to be around the shooter.

Really high level game. They couldn’t miss. We probably had 6 layups spin out and another 6 we just smoked. Still forced OT. All with Terrance at about 60% of what he’s capable of. We are still really good.

Hard to win on the road.

Credit to the Cats. They were fueled by the memory of what we did to them in Champaign. Difficult to go on the road and beat a team that shoots 62% from three and 55% for the game. Boo Buie can't get out of college soon enough.

Our defense was beyond awful. You can complain about the uncalled moving screens but we damn sure did not do our best navigating them. I imagine that will be ahem addressed by BU and staff leading up the IU game.

Not one to complain about coaching, but really don’t like the way Brad handles minutes tonight.

Ty shut down Boo Buie in the first match up and then he doesn’t play the last 18 plus minutes of the game.

Just a dismissal effort defensively.
Got to agree. Hard agree. The assault came from all over, but Ty should have been trusted more than Justin or Marcus in the 2nd half. Not sure what the coaches saw. Maybe they'll explain.

This was a good game for us to go through. Should toughen us up. You’ve gotta go through these types of games to get you ready for March.

Perfectly stated, friend.
