we will see some 56-0 beatdowns these next few years ala the way they were in 1971-1976
I watched (TBF, #1) Ohio State beat them 60-0 when I was in second grade in '73. They were hapless then (though I see they beat the Illini 9-6 that season) and rock-bottom annually until that '95 season when Barnett won the conference. I recall speculative media items in the early '80s about kicking them out of the conference because their football and basketball programs were so consistently, irredeemably awful.

Without Barnett there would be no Fitz and no semi-respectability for the football program there over the past 25+ yrs. They'd be living in perpetual late-'70s purgatory with Rick Venturi. Maybe they'll revert to that state. I doubt it, however, given their apparent booster base these days.

These problems always seem to happen at programs with a cult of personality surrounding the head coach. Joe Pa, Schembechler, now Fitzgerald. One important lesson is not to turn blind eyes due to the reputation of the man in charge.

Coach Bielema you stink you’re on thin ice and you better shape up!

(Just kidding I love you Bert keep it up!)

Captain Obvious says it's clear that University Presidents, Athletic Directors, Politicians and CEO's will never learn that you don't minimize or deny allegations of wrongdoing, issue "statements of support" or hide from the media and hope it all blows over until you have 100% of the facts. This is at least lesson #741 so as a group they are very slow learners.

I met and spoke with Teddy Greensteen some years ago during the Lovie era. He was very arrogant telling me that NW, like Stanford and other high academic schools would be perpetually competitive and we would not ‘because you’re a basketball school’. Wonder what he thinks now.

Agreed, and it bears repeating.

What was that famous Mike Tyson line? "Everybody has a plan until he gets punched in the mouth."

How is it possible for this kind of activity to continually show up? You would think a HC would have a plan to ferret this kind of activity out and stop it before it even begins.

What?

Lord no, the program does not need the stink of Beckman in this manner.
