Did Northwestern basketball run off Johnnie Vassar?
tl;dr but did see that Kipper Nichols makes an appearance in the story.

Agree.Yikes, that's a real bad look for NU.
Agree.
Probably reasonable to assume that similar stories play out nation-wide. Sad, but true.

Like 100's of times every year. Creaning is not isolated to IU.
Oh, absolutely. How bizarre is it that Northwestern, of all places, is where it gets put under the microscope?

Didn't Will Kiersky the publisher of ViceSports go to NW?? If so, props for taking on your alma mater.

Someone send that to Mike and Mike, I'd love to here Greenbergs take...
Greenstein, of all people, actually wrote about this last fall.

Running players off happens everywhere, including Illinois. No one wants to talk about it, as the story mentions, Gary Parrish calls this CBB's dirty little secret.
What's different here are the lengths NU went through to get him off scholarship. Including offering him cash, more or less threatening him, trying to coerce him into signing blank forms, and apparently falsifying documents.
Are you sure??
This is something I don't think groce gets enough credit for. He chose to do things the right way instead of taking the easy way out to save his job. Won't say any names but if he had run off a player or two in order to bring in some higher potential guys the last couple years or if he had swept nunn's incident under the rug there is a strong chance he is still our coach with a nice extension to boot. Thank you john groce and I hope you find success wherever you land.
Uhhhhh.... I guess we're just forgetting about all the guys that did transfer out during Groce's tenure (Shaw, Langford, Henry, Colbert, Cosby). And the number of recruits we consistently went after despite not having scholarships at the ready (Remember the whole "We can count" thing?).
We are not holier than thou.
