I knew a walk on the '89 team. Pure gold experience when it came to interviews. Not sure how he did after his first job, but he had lots of good offers and attention. People wanted to rub elbows with a guy like that.

Just the opposite with these idiots. Do they what they're doing to their fancy degrees?
They’re embracing their notoriety, but as you note, it’s unlikely to be a career enhancer. Gutsy move, but why stop with tee shirts? Remember the old movie, “Car Wash”? Theme song has a catchy beat that was clapped out in the opening scene. Their Marching Band could perform it at halftime with the color guard in orange jumpsuits. Play either the movie track or the Jim Croce version in the locker room for motivation.

Two different songs.

I think NW has to bring in an established big name HC to get control of the football program. The acting HC is in way over his head. If the AD does not act his job will be next on the chopping block.

I would spead dialing the following coaches who retired in 2022/23 to try and get them to take over program next week as 1 year interim HC

David Cutliffe (Duke)
David Shaw (Stanford)
Ken Niumulatolo (Navy)

Herm Edwards (ASU)
Bryan Harsin (Auburn/Boise State)
Clay Helton (USC)
Nick Rolovich (WSU -fired for refusing to follow CV19 rules)

NW needs to clean house on assistant coaches. I would fire anybody who they have photo wearing the t-shirt. There will be portal losses but you want the bad apples who support hazing to leave anyway.

No disrespect to you at all, but I’d rather NW keep their current approach and suck for the rest of my lifetime.

Perhaps it's unduly pessimistic, but the value around Chicago in elite employment circles/bars/cocktail parties/Ravinia concert picnics of the opening line "I played for Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern" seems to have plummeted faster than the frozen concentrated orange juice futures price at the climax of Trading Places.

too late to clean house now, the staff knows they are gone after this season, hence the t-shirt protests.

"I'm playing my team in a way I can explain in job interviews next winter."

It will be interesting to see, as the season progresses, whether the team and staff eventually unravels because no one will remain on staff after November.

What gets me is... Don't these idiots know that they would all be jobless if NW Administration felt they could of found competent replacements for all the staff/coaches from the time all of this came out until the start of camp? That their is a good chance players on this team will be shown the door after the season is over with and possibly have charges/civil suits brought against them at some point during or after the season?

Can we seriously swap out Northwestern and bring in Stanford. You can leave NW in the BTAA just get them out of the sports side of things.
Someone should make some T-shirts with something like this on 'em. Give them to all the other teams in the West. Or maybe just Illinois.

Marching Band playing "Carwash". That's brilliant! Maybe we can have the Marching Illini learn it for the NW game.

Fun to imagine every B1G opponent playing it in the red zone as their offense gives them a car washing. Maybe too cruel though.

Feels cruel. I hope all involved take the high road and show some class.
No need to pile on, that's what Duke or Maryland would do.
When WSU Basketball coach Ernie Kent was found having taken a trip to Mexico with a girlfriend to cheat on his wife … the Dawg Pound (UW students section) all wore sombreros for the next game against the Cougs in Seattle.

If Northwestern is going to refuse the high road on this and instead attempt to lean into it, then to my mind opponent mockery is also now in play.

There is no such thing as too cruel in college sports. Opponent mockery of character flaws exposed is required.

In my 10+ years on this board, I'm pretty sure i've never disagreed with a statement more than this.

Yes...yes there is a too cruel. And this falls into that bucket.

we're (rightly) giving the NW coaching staff a hard time for their tone-deaf t-shirts, but then suggesting we should very publicly and formally make light of what is essentially sexual assault? No thanks.
Agreed, but still fun to imagine.

Keep in mind these are the same players who signed a letter denying their own misdeeds, so it’s not just defiant coaches’ tee shirts. They all remain in denial. Humiliation lies ahead on the field, no words or tunes needed. Will they then adjourn to the locker room to flog one another? Seems to be their culture.
