One frustrating year and let's forget all the good our staff has accomplished.
To be fair to those of us who are frustrated, it's been three years of frustration when taking the full seasons into account. A basketball season does not just consist of the conference games.

Not pinning this all on the staff, as I have mentioned in other posts, but felt it needed to be said.

Tons of talent yes, but half of our rotation are first year guys. Next year it will be an easier transition due to bringing back more guys. Still think this team can go on a run in March Madness, but who knows
Do you see this years outcome changing Brads philosophy on portal, roster construction, and young guys?

Hey I'm frustrated too and I think most fans have some level of frustration but to not have faith in the future of the program is a little over the top.

The Crush was in attendance today. I know this because a friend's son is in Crush. So, at the 6:40 mark of the first half (yes, I went back and looked it up) we are down 26-14 and Coleman makes a nice move to the bucket for a dunk. What's he do? He gives a shout out and a point up to the Crush. Obviously, he knew they were there and somewhere in his head he was hoping to give them a shoutout. This to me shows the mentality of not only him but the team. We are 29 games into the season. You are not and have not been living up to your preseason billing, expectations or talent level but there is plenty of time to get your head straight, acknowledge it's time to knuckle down and play hard. But no, he feels the need to showboat for the Crush. I'm sure no one has forgotten the BS T in the IU game. So why even flirt with that. You made a nice play, hurrah! Get back on D. You're still down 12 to a team that's lost 9 in a row in a game with huge implications.
And he missed his FT
disagree. he was fouled, it was a dead ball, and he made a nice gesture to acknowledge fan support - in the first 10 minutes of game Krush was much much louder than the rest of the stadium with ILI INI and defense chants ... they were loud on that dunk (up until their run after we closed to 52-52)

I don't understand what is so amazing about a 3 pointer? Especially when we aren't very good shooting team to put it gently. Heck we aren't even good ft shooters.
I agree with you. However, I have learned with this team that it is what it is. Coach Underwood again talked about poor shot selection from the 3 point line. He also talked about the good production by Illinois from inside the arc. Sadly this has been the case for most of the whole year with the 3 point shot. Nothing has seemed to change during the course of the year. As a result this team remains torally inconsistent.

On another note Jay Wright, who has coached multiple NCAA championships at Villanova, had some nice things to say about Coleman Hawkins.

Hmmm, seems like a players led team, not a coaching led team.

Honestly..who cares? This team is so weird. Given that we lost Damonte/Frazier/Kofi/Jake/Plummer/Belo/Podz/BBV…What other coaches in America can regroup with mostly freshmen and transfers? Luke was hurt 90% of the year. This team is and forever be a jumbled mess. We knew it going into the season. We knew we’d have some very high highs (UCLA/Texas/Northwestern comeback) and some very low lows (Northwestern first half/Mizzou/OSU/Penn States)

Absolutely nothing changed today with my outlook on the season. We could lose in the first round, we could lose in the elite 8..nothing would surprise me. The only thing that matters is who the other 3 teams in our pod is. Win that pod, and we will all be ecstatic.

Say we lose in the first round, IF we can return RJ,Luke,Epps,Sencire, Ty & Dain… on top of some transfers and our freshman class…we will be better next year. Raw talent wise? Maybe not. But we will have something to build on which we DIDNT have this year.

I’m fine with this.

+1 for your silver linings attitude. Out Freshmen look good. Sometimes they look like freshman. We should give this team the several years it deserves.

Everytime this team can put a little daylight between them and the rest of the middle of the pack they come up with a dud. Up and down game after game. I have thought for quite sometime that OSU would break their losing streak against Illinois. This is the most frustrating team I can ever remember! No wonder coach goes nuts! The good thing is that the season is coming to a close and very quickly for this bunch!

this...plus coleman was one of the few that brought it at all in the first half. If not for his effort plays (the steals and tos he caused ) and shots early we mightve been down 20+ goin into the half.

Yes. They will go after better shooters in the portal this next year. There will be an emphasis on getting the best possible players available instead of upsetting someone on the team currently. Both freshman are super talented coming in next year but we will likely get 4 transfers to come with them

I hope a point guard is very high on the list, if not the very top.

One thing I'm hoping for come NCAA Tournament time is that Illinois' finesse-style play will be more effective when not facing Big Ten officiating crews. There were multiple times today when Shannon drove to the basket and was hammered with no foul called. It's even gotten to the point where he no longer throws up his arms and briefly complains... he just picks himself up and goes back on defense.

Of course, for this to work, we'll need to dial back our intensity on defense a bit as well. But from what I've seen so far in these recent games, that shouldn't be a problem.
Yep, those darn refs got us again.

Harris-Rodgers-Hawkins-Shannon-Mayer. That’s the lineup that gives us our best chance at winning. That’s the lineup that won us the Northwestern game. I’m disappointed that Brad didn’t stick with it late in the second half today. The three to give Epps confidence was nice but leaving him in just wasn’t working defensively.

If we roll with that defensive intensity lineup as much as possible going forward, we will do our best in March. If not, we’re probably a first round exit.

Not saying that at all. Just pointing out that the B1G style of “letting em play” officiating is not what we’ll see, most likely, in the NCAA Tournament. Normally, that comes back to bite a lot of B1G teams early in the tourney when they don’t adjust. But maybe, just maybe, this team might benefit when fouls around the rim are called.

After watching Wisconsin and Michigan I am beginning to wonder if the reason we shoot so many 3's is that because we don't really play very well as a team? Anyone know off hand what percentage of our baskets result from an assist????
