When you shoot 32 3 pointers you aren't going to get many calls.

Very true, but even when we weren't shooting 3s, we weren't getting many calls either...especially in the 1st half. We ended up getting more calls in the 2nd half due to driving the ball more than we did in the 1st half. We need to drive more, even if the result is a kick out to the 3pt line.

Is it possible he was even smarter than that? The ball was clearly going to be his, with little time to shoot. But what if one of the young OSU guys makes a play for the ball?

Then MH grabs the ball, gets fouled, and two shots put us in OT. I think he was waiting for tOSU to make that mistake. That was our best chance to win this game. Malcolm is one very smart player.

That is very interesting.
Extra props to MH for that

just one man's opinion, but here's a tweet from tonight I agree with.

Or better depth to account for these injuries. It's always something...

Of course, this injury thing has been over the top.

Where was Bradford at 2 games into the B1G season?

A couple of points, I forgot Bradford was a redshirt. Secondly, his 41.5% 3 pt.% led the B1G his freshman year. JCL's 3 pt.% thru tOSU game is 42.4%.

A friend of mine says he hears Thorne is going to start full contact practice next week and see how it goes. He's had some light workouts already and results have been positive. Nobody can find anything out on LeRon.

MH made several high-IQ plays tonight. I'm as happy with him tonight as I am with the rest of the players. They made a heroic effort tonight. Wish they could have been rewarded with a big W.

Instead we get to hope the intensity stays high moving forward.

Also, these freshman are dynamite, am I right?

We need to find some more rest for Hill or there might be a good chance he gets a bunch of nagging injuries down the stretch from the constant wear and tear! Maybe DJW or AJ but at this pace I'm concerned for him.

JCL and MF are ahead of where Hill and Nunn were into their 2nd B1G games.

My hope for this season is that the team remains together and builds from this experience. There is talent on this team going forward despite recruiting misses. JCL and Finke can be pillars of this team 2-3 years down the road. Besides the PG and C position we need top tier athletes. OSU athletically pushed us and fatigued us. I felt Nunn was the only player that Illinois had that could match OSU. I'm not sure what we shot from 3 pt range, but I don't expect us to shoot this good. We need to drive and score or penetrate and pass. We no longer have a backdoor plays for layups and this has lacked since Luther Head/Dee/Deron left Illinois.

I think they will end up redshirting Black as it would be the best case scenario for his future if he wouldn't be back anyway for half the B1G season. However, getting Thorne back would be solid for this season.

I have mixed feelings regarding Thorne returning this year vs next year. But then again the NCAA might not grant him the medical redshirt and/or he may just choose to take his 7 foot frame to play for money (overseas, d league)

An imminent and healthy return would be fantastic. Would've loved to see these last two games with him in there.

I'm guessing Thorne would like to play this season if at all possible and not have to try for that 6th season so he can get on with his life and potential hoops career overseas. Leron's a different case since he still has 3 seasons left.

Great game and effort by our team, you gotta love their focus and never-give-up attitude. Tate had a chance on a couple open jumpshots from around the free-throw line that probably would have gone in towards the end of the game, but he passed them up. I don't understand the timidity when he's deadly from that area with free-throws. Also, you can't tell me all the blocks by OSU were clean without a foul here or there that the refs didn't call.

I hate to bash college players but I cannot watch AA play. So frustrating.

I haven't read on to see if anyone has responded to this yet, so sorry if this has been covered. AA is a freaking walkon for gods sakes. Why do you expect him to outperform his abilities?

noticed that OSU took 39 FT's to our 11. pretty big discrepancy there

This discrepancy used to bother the heck out of me. However, since we are such a perimeter oriented team, it makes a little more sense. Take it to the rim, or pound it in to a big man, which we a) don't do and b) don't have, explains this discrepancy.

One of the downsides of a perimeter oriented offense, but that is discussion for another thread.

Good effort by the guys.

Excellent point. However, I think it would take a mugging to get a call.

I would say our freshman (JCL, MF, AJ & DJW) outperformed tOSU's #1 rated B1G class of Giddens, Lyle, Harris, Mitchell, & Grandstaff (gone). Groce can recruit. :)

I think JT is shooting right around 50% from the FT line this year. That splint on his finger really hurts his shooting. He has not been good from the line this year. He is still recovering from that injury.

So far, Nunn is the only formerly injured player who has no side effects from injury this year.

I think I saw the splint is off now, and he made 2-2 from the FT line vs Michigan. I agree it was affecting him previously, but fortunately now he should be OK there.

I couldn't agree with you more. With the experience that JCL and Finke and, to a bit lesser extent, Jordan will be getting this year, I am really looking forward to next year. I also agree that those two could be pillars for the team after next year. I have been watching college basketball for over 50 years, and I have never seen a team hit so badly with injuries as our team was this year. While we may not get a lot more wins this year, I think we will all have a good time watching the kids develop.
