Ohio State 87, Illinois 81 Postgame

I’d say we’rea talented team, but not a great team. A lot of pieces that haven’t quite gelled together. Right now, the sum isn’t greater than the parts.
My thoughts exactly. Just a disappointing effort in the 1st half. OSU shot over 50% from the field. Defense was supposed to be the calling card of this team. They seem to have forgotten who they are.

I’m not saying that. I’m just saying this Is major D1 and we are a ranked team. A kid doesn’t not play all year, then get thrust into the starting lineup. It just doesn’t happen with a competent coach.

Also he got one. Tevian Jones. He’s scoring 20 a game in Southern Utah.
He can't be worse than Demonte who has little scoring and is being asked to guard players 5" taller. We are already giving up 80-90 points a game to good teams. I just hope there is a change.

Was so excited for this team. For the first time in years I need to stop watching games for a while.
Underwood could catch some charges from the SEC for selling us this fraud of a team. I won't argue that we don't have talent, but Underwood really oversold how much chemistry this team has. We aren't as good as our preseason hype and I've accepted that.

He’s not. I’m not slighting him. I think Jones was a very talented kid. I wish he was still here.

I believe that the turning point today was midway in the 2nd half when we were down around 7. Flagrant foul on OSU, Kofi misses BOTH free throws (Surprise!), gets called with a charge after the inbound play, and OSU comes down and makes a 3. Gigantic turnaround.
Agree

Time for BU to prove if he’s an elite coach or just a good coach. Way too much talent to be down double digits in what feels like every game now.
BU has a long way to go to prove either, imo. He is 2 games over .500 in his career at Illinois and 8 games under .500 in conference. He has been thoroughly average at this level to this point (he was elite at SFA). Compared to a guy like Holtmann, there is a lot left to be desired. I hope I can sing a different tune soon.

Time to change the starting lineup. Demonte should go to the bench and help the second unit. Grandison or BBV should start. We need length not the four small guards.
DW really, really hurt them to start this game and he really, really hurt them at the end of the Maryland game. Rough stretch.

Lack of 40 minutes of intense defense was the primary cause of this loss.
I am not one to blame the officiating, but quite clearly "in the b_____ department these refs were not well endowed."

Hopefully a drop out of the top 25 is warranted and maybe some humility will be accepted. Then they can start working harder, with more energy and urgency to turn this around.

He also started in a much worse spot than Holtmann.
He needs to recruit at a high level. That’s why this last class worries me. If we lose that momentum we are easily back in the basement and starting over.

Yes. But, he’s never fully had the confidence to shoot it when he should. Andre has that.
Maybe I'm wrong but coming out of high school he was a scorer and I feel like he has been miss managed with the Illini. Didn't he have a knee injury in HS?

I think we will drop out of the rankings on monday.. I think that will light a fire under us.. 2 back to back losses at home..
Disagree. But we will be mid 20’s and essentially flip with OSU. Still. Doesn’t feel appropriate, I agree we probably SHOULD be dropped out after our last 2 games

Yes. ACL and MCL I believe.

I love him as a kid, but if he’s in your starting lineup you’re not a top ten team. He needs to be a rotational player. That’s why the griffin and Jones transfers hurt so much. Imo.

Yep...Feliz is the difference. Tough as nails, and took over games when the team struggled. Easy to overlook, because his numbers weren't off the charts, but he was a winner.
But their record wasn't any better with Feliz. The same inconsistencies.
