Good afternoon Old-Age members....Hope your day has been fruitful and inspiring for your soul and peace of mind........I have thought a lot about my intent in creating this thread just last Saturday morning..........I wanted to add some humor and smiles , along with a dose of reality to this magnificent board....Seems like it was getting a little stale with the same opinions being posted in different phrases.....Also, I felt I had a lot to say in text instead of being a gif-ting monster every day.....And I am very happy and excited with the number of views recorded since inception.....
This afternoon I would like to look back in time at the difference's of back then versus now.......Boomers will know what I'm talking about , and some will be on the exact same page as I am with regards to the difference's....Some will be drastic, some will be subtle.....but that's what struck me as a good topic , along with other's that we will explore......
When I became a teenager in late 1964 my family of me, Mom and Dad had the following in our home....
Black and white TV
No central heat and air
No cell phones
No Cable or outside dish hookup's
40 TV tower with a rotor that sounds like a grinder when it moved the outside antenna
Stereo consoles instead of component music systems
no microwaves
coffee purculators (sp, to lazy to look up)
cast iron skillets instead of teflon coated wonders
most homes had at least one manual shift transmission car
tape recorders were marvels of Japanese invention
most homes had live Christmas trees
That should be enough to compare the difference's of 57 years advancements in social materialism....make no mistake , I enjoy the hell out of all the improvements....I really really do.......Most, if not all of the advancements we couldn't live without ........We had a very serious ice storm here in Paducah in 2009.......power was out at my residence for 8 WEEKS........yep, 8 weeks......I had been divorced for almost 2 years and it was just me and my Weinmaraner who's name was ZOE....best friend I have ever had, bless her heart...She left me at age 14, four years more than life expectancy and I loved every moment with her...
I brought up the difference's in lifestyle to hope some will think about what the boomers went through early on, not out of pity , but to respect what we endured in our early years , and even more , for the young folks to think about what their life will be like in 57 years....
Now, one thing that hasn't changed is how society deals with one subject that we all will experience for ourselves and the one's we love ....
Death..... I will NOT dwell on this subject at all....But my thrust tonite is the exact opposite of death......LIFE......Please enjoy your life....As much as humanly possible....Put away the petty difference's in what divides us.......i care for all people and if i come into contact with someone I know I won't like to be around, then I won't be around them........my days are spent with a smile on my face , regardless of my pain in my fingers and hands or what ever else life wants to throw at me.....I really have a wonderful lady in my life and I will continue to share pics of her as she enjoys the parody i portray in my posts...
That was some damn beautiful prose there , my pru soulmate.......You have a unique way of playing with words, in addition to your other skills that will remain silent only to us...
Just some rambling thoughts from a boomer, hoping no one took it as a lecture, etc........LIFE is hard........................................LIVING is even harder...
now..................................Rock ON everyone and make a decision to LIVE harder for yourself and others.....I know I am , everyday I have left to LIVE....
DAMN......................DAMN DAMN............................DAMN DAMN DAMN...........................................................................................................................................................................
