Despite getting severely outclassed and absolutely dominated today, you telling me you have a shot at 10-2 and a playoff spot, and you're not going all out for it? Giving everything you've got? Playing injured? Because you don't think you're good enough, or that you don't belong, or that you'll embarrass yourself? Then don't bother suiting up in the first place.

I realize we're a damaged fanbase with decades of trauma, I've been there, but damn, you play to win. So what if your worst nightmare comes true, we're the 12 seed and we get blown the frak out by an OSU or Georgia by 50pts? If we got there, we deserved that spot and we gave ourselves a chance. I've seen more 1 and 2 win seasons than I've seen winning seasons. I've only seen a single 10 win season in over 25 years of being a fan! So maybe getting embarrassed in the CFP is your worst nightmare, but that'd be one of my wildest dreams relative to what we've gone through over the decades.

So I don't care if we're not CFP material. I don't care that most pundits had us winning 2-4 games this season, myself included. Go 10-2 and force the committee to make a decision, don't whimper and cry you're not Oregon, take your football home and finish 6-6 because of an inferiority complex. Because you play like winners long enough, hell, you might actually become one
You mistake my objectivity for my passion. IMHO, making the playoff this year and getting blown out like we did today would only confirm the general public view that it's the "same old Illinois". Finish 10-2 this year, missing the playoff and winning a quality bowl game will put a finish on our football season unseen since 1983, my first season as an Illini. And the build on that to make the CFP next year when we add some high-quality talent, get a little older, and have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs. We are not ready to really compete this year.

the fact they started an ILLINI chant with I-N-I is further evidence of their lower academic status compared to Illinois

This footage shows Ducks fans attempting to initiate the chant with “I-N-I” after taking a drag of the devils cabbage. Did you know they have 3(!) dispensaries located right inside Autzen?!

We aren’t going to see a better team the rest of the year. We should finish 10-2, 9-3 or 8-4.
Can anyone be THAT happy with 8-4 at this point? I mean, I comprehend it is a huge improvement for this program as far as the record goes … but we are 6-2 with an easier end to our schedule than beginning. Winning 2 home games (or going 1-1 at home and winning at RU like UCLA did) and beating NU in front of an Illini-friendly crowd at Wrigley should be an expectation now.

Serious question......Why don't we ever Blitz on Defense? Why are we so predictable?

Well I’m ready to run through a wall for this guy. Today’s a calibration day. Remember:
1 - we’ve already beat the Vegas projection with 4 games to go.
2 - we’re *good* (not great, obv.)
3 - we have a ton of positive momentum.

This is positive. We got our !!! beat, but we got it beat by the best team in college football. We were outmanned. It’s fine. Get healthy and win.

3. We can't lose anything from the win column for today's disappointing performance. Very glad we can't slip from 6 wins to 5 wins. We didn't hand them the win, either - we were just outplayed. There's a reason Oregon...and IU...are undefeated.
Is IU really that good? They haven’t played one ranked team all season.

10-2 is the expectation

At no point have we been anywhere close to a top 25 team. Advanced stats were proven comprehensively, incontrovertibly right about this team today.

This is the least talented team in the Big Ten, that a good staff, and a (until today) high performing quarterback have playing above their heads, and which coincidences of scheduling order worked to make an illusion of being even stronger than that.

It's amazing this season was anything other than a disaster and 8-4 would be manna from heaven for the program.

Above all else what Illinois Football needs is to stake a larger claim on Illini Nation's NIL resources.

I disagree that we are the least talented team in the Big Ten.

Our blocking and tackling all year have not been up to the consistent standards of the elite B10 teams like Oregon, PSU, and OSU. I really hope we hit the portal hard in the off season to bring in some experienced offensive and defensive lineman and linebackers. We need more competition to improve those areas. I'm not talking wholesale replacement, but a few key players with high level skills could make a significant difference in reducing negative plays. Coach B has us trending in a good direction, and I trust him to address our weaknesses. Look what IU has done with a talent infusion.

The least talented team in the Big Ten? That's ridiculous even by CG standards. If you hold Illini football in so little regard, why be here?

I disagree that we are the least talented team in the Big Ten.

I'm not going to say that methodology is the be-all, end-all by any means. No huge difference between the bottom 5-6 or so.

But we lack top level athletes at a lot of different places on the field.

Quarterbacks and coaches elevate lesser talent in football, and we've gotten high level performance from both. Higher level than I expected, certainly.

That makes the possibility of more money flowing into our payroll pretty tantalizing.

Illini fans before the start of the season: "please let us make a bowl"

Illini fans after a 6-2 start: "anything less than 8 wins is a failure"

Typical Illinois fandom. Keep everything in perspective. We are a decent team, but it's very evident that we are not in the same conversation with Oregon. We lost to the two teams we thought we absolutely would lose to. Outside of that, we are keeping on the right side of close games, but that's Bret's strategy.

We still need a run game that doesn't require our running backs to make two moves just to get back to the line of scrimmage. Please more draws and screens, and not to our WR who has two guys hitting him when he catches the ball.

LOL, is that so? Perhaps you could tell us where those dispensaries are located at Autzen. As far as I know, "The Peoples Wellness Center" is the closest dispensary to Autzen and it's about a half mile from the stadium.

We’re all very glad you were able to witness this firm beatdown today - we know how comforting that is for you.

Can’t even go pee at the stadium without bumping into a dispensary. /s
