Kern made like 7 “tough twos” in a row.. I bet the analytics say he’ll miss his next 7 against Indiana this weekend

All due respect Indy, that’s a cop out. Brad is paid 4mil + per year. If the defense sucks (which it does), it’s NOT Hamer’s fault… it’s Brad’s… the buck stops w the guy making all the $$.

Posted my thoughts on that here ...

No point guard? Did you know last years Mr Basketball in Illinois high school was a point guard, won a state championship in 4A , was the tourney mvp , and has a brother who plays baseball at Illinois. I don’t believe we recruited him at all. McCaffery got him at Iowa.

And he's averaging 3 ppg on a 16-11 (8-8) team. He isn't the missing piece to carry this team on his back to the National Championship, sorry.

The loss sucks. Absolutely horrible. But, Brock Harding is not an upgrade over literally any of our rotation players.

I've been running this in the back of my mind as well.
Yes - but Goode was 3 for 5 on threes for the game so he was at least 3 for 4 before this. I would need to watch the replay but I didn’t think we were just dribbling the ball wasting time so I guess I can see why he shot it (he shouldn’t have in my opinion). He had been struggling but was shooting well tonight so I get him putting it up in a way even though it probably wasn’t the best decision. So many other decisions were worse during the game.

We had a great one ... He's at Gonzaga now ...
Okay, but honest question. What did Gentry devise that was so amazing? He wasn’t much good to us against Loyola…our most embarrassing loss…up until that time. (Yes, I think it’s reasonably fair to zero in on that one game…because that’s the kind of game nothing is working…you throw the kitchen sink at them.)

Yes, I think Gentry’s stuff fit our personal…and. it WAS efficient…But:
(Respectfully, I think finding ways to put Ayo in ball screens
isn’t really all that ground breaking; honestly.)
(Even Tyler has been successful being efficient… albeit in a very different way.)

With Gentry I remember a lot of ball screen heavy, quick hitters; usually out of a horns set…with maybe a little bit of deception getting into it here and there. That’s about all I remember. NBA sets but pretty simplistic. Am I wrong?

I’m not sure why we struggle so mightily on BLOBs and Press Break Offense. We struggled back then too…sometimes mightily. I don’t get it.

Brad's MAIN issue for this season didn't actually occur during the season. It was back in April, May and June when he didn't land a dependable PG.

Issues like Domask bringing up the ball, whether to play Ty or Luke late in games, Hawkins turning the ball over and missing free throws, Harmon not being able to get the ball in bounds.....

NONE of these are problems if they had a dependable PG. None of them. They win @ Northwestern, @Michigan State and @Penn State of that position was buttoned up. This team should be 22-4 this year. They've choked games away late and they can't defend a quick guard from any other team.

That's a personnel issue. That PG position is the most important position in the college game. A good one manages the game, handles the ball, makes good decisions late and makes free throws.

It's a lack of execution because they don't have the piece that's required.
It certainly stings but it was Ray Js decision in the end of the day. Getting someone else random or worse doesn’t necessarily mean we win those three

Not adding a PG ... Inexcusable ... I agree ...

However ... Brock Harding was never going to be the answer ... There was a reason Iowa was his only P5 offer ...

Or I don't know, Brad could just play Ty, the PG he opted to go with this season. Hard to cast blame of our losses on not having a PG when we refuse to play our PG down the stretch. Maybe Brad would bench RayJ the final minutes of games also. That would make as much sense as what he's doing with Ty.

Let's not forget the men playing for the Beloved are now paid professional players. The team, except for TSJ and MD, have not been playing up to expectation$.

Should not be Coleman’s concern at that point. Piss poor excuse for being a veteran player with the chance to seal the game and missing both.

It’s like how every time Coleman thinks he gets fouled he stays on that end of the court to complain and doesn’t bother getting back for defense. He’d rather complain at the refs than play the damn game.
It’s a short trip from hero to goat. Last game Coleman could do no wrong and tonight ..…. Not so much.

Narrowly beat me to it. Aw, man. No pun originally intended.

But, seriously. Harding could literally score 20 against our lingerie defense and I would still laugh at the thought that he is the answer.

Unfortunately, Williams didn't work out. That dude would have been THE answer to exactly what this team needs. Plays smart, plays tough, defends at a high level - at least in the few games I have seen him - and is experienced. Like many have said, BU can definitely identify talent. He just struggles, IMO, to instill consistency and accountability.

If Penn State can run a normal out of bounds play to get 3 layups during the game we should be able to run a simple play just to get the ball inbounds
This. This. This. How does the staff watch these games back all season and not see the need to have better inbounds plays. Or the need to practice them more!! It’s been an issue for YEARS!!

Do I see a complete flip this late in the season? No ...

But if we don't make some adjustments ... I'll be shocked ...
Adjustments MUST be made. NOW. Yes, the last 40 seconds of this game were epically bad, but the team was only in the position to fumble away the game because their defense was so awful for the first 39 minutes. It's been this way for two months. FIX IT.

The mental mistakes and situational basketball mistakes are far more frustrating than Hawkins missing Fts or TSJ getting picked.
Whats beyond frustrating is losing to MSU and PSU from taking dumb shots, lack of leadership, shot selection foolish play and coaching..Tonight why is Goode in up 10, taking that dumb 3? Why isn't Domask catching inbounds passes as our best FT shooter, most experienced player and leader. Why is Hawkins fouling from 25ft? Why if we want mature leaders does our coach allow off the court adolescent behavior? Get off social media, study and focus on what matters. Grow up and lead. Was Ayo or is Domask doing that crsp? Anyway I hope they all learn from this. Players that take dumb shots should be benched and player that act like teen agers off the court shouldn't start. Its time to be men. Off the court behavior us part of being a leader and effects the games. Domask, Harmon and Quincy act like men and Hawkins and others need to start to as well. Some players have discipline and get it and others dont. That is part of the problem. Mental errors and choices lost this game mostly from our coaches poor game management

Anyone else think TSJ helping up a Penn State player during live play was weird, which then subsequently led to a turnover?

Illinois was acting like they had this one in the bag.

To be honest, I shouldn’t let losses like tonight affect me the way that I do. It’s not warranted and it’s certainly not healthy. But to have a team as talented as we have and then see the total collapse that we saw is gut-wrenching! You could blame Coleman’s mental lapses, Goode’s horrific defense, Harmon’s continual backdoor swing gate, 18 of 27 free throws, 18 turnovers, Goode shooting a 3 with 20 second on the shot clock, lack of an in-bound pass play and having the wrong people on the floor in the last 3 minutes … and all of those blunders contributed to an embarrassing loss. The thing that concerns me the most is that this has become a trend that our coach sweeps under the rug at pressers because of a “great environment” or “those kids and that coach deserve all of the credit.” That’s a bunch of crap, right now we are not Elite, we are not Connected and we are not Every Day Guys! We have an old and talented team that can beat just about anyone if we play to our capabilities. I hope something clicks over the next few days and we show that against Iowa! :shield:
