I'm glad this continues to pop back up and haunt Penn State. This was a horrific situation that many are trying to downplay about who knew what was going on.
I couldn't disagree more. I think all the guilty parties have been expunged. The courts have ruled. To me, it is over. We all know the powers that were in charge then were sick and ruthless. Move on, but never forget.
Let the current staff and kids play football like any other college.
I disagree. The Penn State fans continue to believe that JoePa was a saint. They want to put his statue back up!
Shut it down, shut it all down.

I have been on the fence about Penn State since this story broke. I believe there is no way "the coach" didn't know something and other people need to answer some questions truthfully (yea right).
With that being said, everyone that did or should have know what was going on is dead or fired. Should we now punish other adults and most of all the kids because of an issue they had no control over? Does anyone deserve a statue, hell no, but the current administration cleaned house as they should have. When your program was as successful as Penn State, it is hard for some fans to get past their denial. What saddens me is that the victims have to hear this again every time an article like this comes out and starts the debate again. Let's let the victims heal the best way that they can.
I don't understand why the sanctions were relieved on that school.
Because child molestation is among the most heinous of all crimes, but it is not a violation of NCAA rules.
But it's a lack of institutional control.....
But the fault goes beyond Sandusky and JoePa. There is a blatant lack of institutional control, which allowed a known pedophile to leverage that institution's name, ethos, and resources to ensnare his victims.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but "lack of institutional control" means "lack of institutional control in ensuring compliance with the NCAA rulebook".
One might be tempted to charge Illinois with "lack of institutional control" given the rash of behavioral issues with our basketball players, clearly sufficient control is not being exercised. But that's not what LOIC means.
The whole institution knew for 30 years and they didn't do a damn thing. That is loic.
Why do so many people think the NCAA is a law enforcement organization?
People are very committed to the idea that wins and losses in football and/or basketball belong to the just and the NCAA is the arbiter of that justice. I find it very strange as well.
If PSU doesn't cover up these crimes by Sandusky through the years, are they the PSU we all knew during the 1970's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's? I don't believe so, which would have a direct impact on their W/L record. The school culture they cultivated by covering up Sandusky's crimes happening in their facilities and at bowl game sites is the most troubling aspect of this whole mess. They gave the sick freak the keys to the castle and let him do pretty much whatever he wanted. There is a basic ethical, moral obligation to do the right thing and PSU seems to have ignored these issues throughout the last 40 years.
I understand that LOIC doesn't directly relate to criminal activities/law enforcement, but I do believe LOIC discusses ethical standards at an academic/athletic institution. When hiding the Sandusky issues to protect your football culture and image to maintain success, is how I believe they are linked. I may be wrong, but it's maddening that PSU still exists.
If this whole thing comes to light in the 70's when Joe Pa heard about it - is PSU in the big ten?
