If we start weak, we will lose this game. It's that simple.

Unless Illinois is firing on all cylinders from the get-go, this is not an easy game to win. I don't know why we keep trying to downplay Indiana...
LITERALLY nobody has downplayed Indiana!! We have the opposite phenomena going on, with many here acting like they’re the ‘85 Bears!

For my many decades of Illinois fandom, I’ve never had any particular dislike for Indinia football. I’ve reserved that energy for absolutely hating their basketball programs (I was a young teenager during the Knight years). Now, with their bball programs irrelevant, I’ve transferred that hatred over to Coach Google and can now admit that I want nothing more than a win today. By one point or fifty, I don’t care. I don’t think I can stomach the slobberfest Indinia would receive for winning. I hope to see a stadium full of tears and heartbreak for their fans on tv tonight. Please oh please!!!
Unless it's my team, I get mad when a basketball school does well in football or vice versa.

Do you think maybe we could borrow Spoon and Sydney back for this game?

I think where I've finally landed is the pessimism (and I'm guilty of it) comes from years like 2001 and 2007 - the feeling that all our hopes and dreams rely on this one season and we have to capitalize in every game. Because we know we'll go back to those four to six win seasons the next few years.

I'm trying to get more comfortable with the sustained success concept we are starting to feel with Bret, since it's not something we've known well as Illini fans.

Win or lose tonight, we will be okay. (That's what I keep telling myself at least).

I tend to agree with the fact that we need to start the game with more urgency than we have shown during the first 3 games so far............

BUT , the one thing that can't be argued is we have won the halftime adjustments being made and conversely we have blown out our competition in the second halves........factor in also that we seem to raise our physicality level due to our elite conditioning and I see us dominating the loosiers starting about midway in the 3rd quarter and pulling away to my prediction score of 41-27 ILLINI.......

I really really really do......................

But that could be attributed to simply wearing out lesser programs that don’t have any depth. IU I think has more depth than those other schools.

Need to run Valentine. A lot.

Hmmm...That ain't happening..Our offensive line has played poorly to date to establish a good running game.... As such, the game plan will be a pass first mentality....If we win this game its because of takeaways and Luke Altmyer

Less than stellar? The front 4 has been the best part of the defense so far. 3rd in the conference in rusning ypg allowed and 4th in sacks.
Let me start by saying this. I want our defense to shut me up and I want to eat enough crow to get me to Thanksgiving, so I can change over to Turkey. That would be awesome.

With all due respect to Western Illinois and Western Michigan, I focus on Duke who have players that are at least comparable to what we'll see in conference. Early in that game, we couldn't stop the run and Mensah did what he wanted and that includes about 3 flat out dropped balls that would have been six. When Duke had to pass because they got behind, we most definitely got home with two strip sacks.

Our second halves have really skewed numbers. We've been outstanding in every second half this year. Absolutely outstanding. The terms of the game changed enormously once we charged ahead.

Three items of note:

1)Our best corner is out. The only way to truly cover that up is to get a big pass rush without the need to blitz. If our corners are made to be in coverage for even an average amount of time, it's trouble.

2)The offense we're seeing today is explosive. They have elite playmakers and a QB that is going to deliver the ball on time and accurately if he has time to set up.

3)If our first half is even remotely as bad as our previous three games, we'll be down 31-10 at half.

I'm praying that you come back to this post with a fork and knife for a full meal of crow being jammed down my throat.

Below is every prediction on this thread up to this point (not counting multiple predictions by the same people) in order of the prediction. To count, a member has to have declared a winner either verbally (i.e. "Illinois will will this game") or by posting a score (i.e. "Indiana 34 - Illinois 16"). Writing a five page analysis without making a prediction didn't get counted, even if said analysis leaned very strongly towards one way or another. I think I got them all, but I may have missed some (sorry!).

The final count: Illinois was predicted to win 39 times, Indiana was predicted to win 14. And one prediction that at least one team will win.

Obviously you would expect this on an Illinois forum. I started compiling this list to prove a different point (which was proven, if anyone cares, but I no longer care because this was more fun). Also, post X being announced as out for the game (year, maybe), the predictions were still Illinois 9, Indiana 4.

No real point to all of this I suppose. Just a fun exercise.

Loosiers: 0
Illini: 45
Illinois over Indiana, 31-24.
Illini 24, Indiana 17.
I see a 31-27 Illini win.
If our first half defense vs WMU is our fully installed looks….which I’m 60% sure its not…38-35 Illinois in OT.
If that defense was less than 50% of our defensive looks…..35-20 Illinois.
