Refs don't really matter. It's all about the players.
We'll have to agree to disagree....how refs call a game matters a great deal....if the officiating crew calls a lot of what I'm going to say are ticky tac fouls as opposed to letting players bump and bang.. has an effect on how each team plays...how quickly (if the can) they can adjust....getting a key player or two in foul trouble....One of my biggest pet peeves with officials and Ive seen this several times this year, is the delayed foul call.. when a player is going to the rim to score, and the player looks like they're fouled....but the foul call doesn't come if the basket is made, if not made, the whistle blows very late sending the player to the line for FT's....imo, officiating is pretty inconsistent throughout college basketball

I actually like when refs do that. They see contact, but aren't sure if it rises to the level of a foul, so they see if it actually affects the offensive player. If a fairly simple shot is missed, they call the foul, but if the player scores they let it go. I think it helps the flow of the game and lets a ticky tac foul go. It can obviously be frustrating as a fan when it leads to a late call, but in the end I think it's usually the right call.

And he tried to screw us with a 4 second call against Iowa. ;)

I know this post is probably in partial jest, but since its been said - I have always been more concerned with the tall bald headed ref - he's really not very good.

DJ bald head ref is the epitome of piss poor officiating.....But, he is not alone in the B1G......

Yea, but I think Archie walked into a better situation than B.U. Can anyone confirm? Also, can't blame them for not being happy with where things are trending. That says a lot more than a win/loss
I can tell you without looking up what the rosters were like that Archie had more talent than BU did. But, I did also look up the 17-18 season rosters.

Archie had three top 100 RSCI guys, and Juwan Morgan. BU had freshmen TF/MS, Leron, and not much else. I'd take Indiana's roster every day that year.

Pre-season 2017-2018 BIG predictions: IU #9 and Illinois #12. Actual results,IU tied for 6th and Illinois tied for 11th.

Yeah the trend with BU has been upwards, whereas Hoosiers have been treading water. Archie's best conference record was 9-9 his first season. Since then he's gone 8-12, then 9-11. 4-4 this year. BU lost a lot of games his first 2 years, which everyone expected given where the team was, but then 13-7 and this season likely better than that. Don't think IU fans are ok with plateauing as a .500 team in conference play. That being said, he could get one more chance, but I think fans are ready to move on (source: my father-in-law is a die-hard IU basketball fan) 20210201_092009.jpg

Did they change the time? I swore ESPN had it set for 6. Google search still does

Game time: 8:00pm CT, broadcast on ESPN.

(Game was originally scheduled for 6:00pm CT, but was recently moved to 8:00pm CT. No idea why, but these days there's been a lot of schedule reshuffling in the Big Ten. Go Illini.)

Note the schedule which is typically the quickest to be up-to-date is fightingillini.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule

Ugh. Love it being in primetime on ESPN, but it getting moved later sucks for those of us on the east coast.

All our weeknight games start at 9 or later.....it sucks lol
This might be a game where I'm willing to watch the second half the next morning. I really hate this scheduling. I wish I lived further west, 10 am football games and pretty much any sport not going past 10 pm

Jacob Grandison said there's an adjustment from being a go-to guy (at Holy Cross) to being a guy who makes the hustle/gritty plays (at Illinois). But (paraphrasing) he just has tried to stay ready and do what he needs to do to help the team.

Underwood: "As we've seen during Big Ten play, the next one is just as tough as the last one."

Underwood: Indiana "tremendous defensively." Think they're better than when they first played in December. Trayce Jackson-Davis "off the charts" recently at getting to the foul line. Phinisee had an eruption at Iowa.

Going to have to play well to beat them.

Underwood isn't concerned about not leaving the state since Dec. 23. "Every game is like a road game" this year. Said the only difference between road and home games this season is the paint on the floor.

Underwood says Jacob Grandison "only has one speed, and that's all-out."

Do you think the standards are that much higher at Indiana??? A better won-lost record than B.U
BU walked into an absolute dumpster fire, where his inherited recruiting class(less Frazier) bolted and players transferred. The last two years, they've been in the top 15 and will have made the tournament two years running(I am counting last year). He's taken recruiting to a new level and has done well in Illinois, Nationally and Internationally.

We were BAD when he took the reigns.

Steve Welmer? He's been retired for 10 years.

Talked to a close friend over the weekend who is a big Hoosier fan. He also knows several alumni and donors. From what he said, nobody is happy with the way things are tending in Hoosierville. He personally feels that Archie should get one more year, but if they don't turn it around the rest of this year and next, he gone. Also said it wouldn't surprise him if they cut ties after this year. This is his roster now and the on court results are not good

Al McGuire once said you love to see Steve Welmer show up for home games and hate to see him on the road. ;)
