I watched a video of mccaffrey at a coaches clinic a couple years ago and he talked about how they run their 1-2-2 based on who takes the ball out.

Basically, if a big or guard who isn’t a great handler is back with the primary point guard, they will shade the point of the press a little harder to the pg side, so he will reverse it. They won’t guard the other guy (other than the occasional stunt) until he gets to a trap zone. That’s why you see a lot of teams get stuck in between against it, because they kinda force the non pg in the situation to make the play.

I’ve adopted the approach for my high school team, and it’s pretty effective. I think Hawkins is the X factor in that secondary spot. He’s got decent enough handle, but also the height to see over the 6’8ish guy Iowa usually keeps up there.
Great info.

I love full court and half court zone traps, especially in HS basketball. (Give me John Wooden and Shaka Smart all day long....)

I really like our matchups with IOWA. I see an advantage at every position except Murray and not sure how he compares with Harper but certainly not tougher but maybe quicker. Hawk has him. Kofi > than whoever, Trent > Bohannon, Grandison, DMW, don’t have Iowa equivalents.
Still don’t think it will be blow out but would be my druthers.

I think Joe Toussaint will be a problem for us. Especially when he's locked in defensively. He quick and strong, but prone to foul trouble. If he picks up a couple quick it'll definitely help us out.

I feel much better about this game after our last 2. Iowa is not the same team we are used to hating and will be a good test in a hostile environment. Hope everyone else is healthy and back to full strength. We may need them.

As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how the B10 teams handle Plummer. It’s good he’s found his rhythm now because the open looks will be a lot tougher to come by.

King Kofi is going to feast inside. Only 2 players for the Squawks over 6'10, with Ogundele as the only non-beanpole. Should see a monster game from our big fella, barring early foul trouble (knock on wood - hasn't happened yet).

Also REALLY looking forward to Trent and DMFW locking down Bohannon and Connie Mac. Should see plenty of whining to the refs out of those two knuckleheads.

Grandy and CoHawk gotta be stout on D, matching up with Murray. Interested to see how BU matches up and rotates tomorrow night. Rebraca looks fairly pesky in the few minutes I've seen of him, could be a wildcard for them.

Get out on the break quickly for some transition buckets when possible and keep good floor spacing in the halfcourt. When the D collapses on Kofi, murder them with the kick-outs.
Prediction: 89-76 :chief::hailtotheorange:

Folks,

Do not much about BB. BUT, with Kofi turning out to be an "elite" passer, I do see more 2 digit wins than I had in mind at the start of the season. And, if Kofi thinks it will help his $$$ in the next level (and I think it should), it could get real nice AFA wins are concerned.

Combine that with a lock-down D and ....................

IL: 80
IA: 65 or less

kofi will feast inside if we can get him the ball...if I were the Hawks I'd pressure full court and try and force an up and down court exchange that would limit Kofis number of touches...Illini have shown they can turn it over when play becomes hap hazard....we handle their pressure we win

Rutgers really focused on keeping the ball out Kofi's hand with help defenders always being near in the lane to prevent the entry pass but as we saw they gave up a lot from 3 to make it happen.

I think we win by 7-10 points , but the eternal question in the B1G conference play is WHO ARE THE REFS ????

This will always be a concern to me as the crews reffing now are abysmal...........I will leave it at please no Bo or Larry or dj baldhead ref..................I know Bo reffed the Rutger's game but this game won't be a blowout like that game was ..........A bad call on the road can undo the momentum we have going for us now..........................

INI.........Dont forget Kelly Pfeiffer. He and Scumrotto should never wear stripes at any level again, they're both just worse than terrible.

Bo and DJ baldhead are tolerable as long as they're not teamed up with either of the first two. They'll have to get their TV time with a couple of reviews and call a couple moving screens early but other than that, they're at least reasonably competent.

Any game that scumrotto and/or Pfeiffer is involved in will feature multiple controversial if not horrible calls.

Even more impressed with Luke Goode after watching his interview. Incredible young man for just a Freshman. He seems to get that college transition process more than any freshman I have heard in an interview. Smart kid. Think we are going to really enjoy him throughout his career here.

The 4 out has really worked as long as Kofi continues the learn his Jokic game. Our shooters are very good which I will take open 3’s all day. Really will be interesting when AC does come back. I think will be a 6th man. Not starting off with 5 To’s before the 4 minute time out has been the key to our better play.

I look for Iowa to apply full court pressure with Curbelo out. Can we handle the press in a hostile environment???

This is really ironic because against Rutgers we had 4 or 5 turnovers at the first media TO. Then ended the game with only 10 total.

Too early to talk about a redshirt?
giphy-3.gif

Despite the inauspicious first few games, I would be vehemently against redshirting Belo. We have the most dominant big man in the NCAA, senior leadership, and a team that's gonna continue to improve. There's enough talent there to make a run this season, but we need André, too. Don't let the Marquette game fool you, he's still ridiculously talented and easily our best ballhandler. At this point, it's obvious he wasn't right during that game. Even if he doesn't get back till February, I want him down the stretch this season if it's at all possible.

Do these games usually get posted on the Fox Sports app to watch directly after the broadcast ends?
