Are you hoping we continue to play 20 questions, or will you offer actual information? These vague retorts simply feed the rumor mill.
What's the alternative here? He either stays completely quiet or spills the information. Clearly something that the staff and or curbelo doesn't want out right now for the general public.

0440 is just stopping the rumors that it's an injury preventing curbelo from playing. He's not eliciting questions he's just shooting down rumors he knows are false.

He/she has to protect his/her position.
While it does feed the rumors, we must understand that if 0440 gave us the full story it could damage 0440's job status.
It's not an injury, it's not discipline. What are the other possibilities?

Thank you. If Brad and or Belo wanted it out there then Brad would inform everyone during his weekly press conferences. Clearly they want to respect Belo's privacy with matter. Just informing it isn't injury related.

Wouldn't concussion protocol be an injury?
If it's persistent post-concussion symptoms (again, maybe it's not), then he would technically be able to pass the concussion protocol. At that point it seems it's more of a health issue than an injury issue.

People. Whatever it is, it's not anything related to an injury. That's it. He'll be back when he has to. Let's leave it at that and move on. It's nobody's business to know why it's happening. What matters is our team learns to play well together against D1 opponents in Belo's absence.

He's a college kid with a lot of weight on his shoulders. High expectations before the season. He should be back on the court this year and will be key in a deep March Madness run. Just remember he's a young kid and we are all hoping to see him back soon. We have a really good squad regardless.

I can’t imagine the Twitter vitriol that came his way after the Marquette game was helpful. Just a reminder that if you’re only on this board to complain after a loss but are conspicuously absent in the postgame threads after a W then I question your fandom.

This may be one of the unintended consequences of the NIL. In the past, coaches have been able to mandate players shut down all social media during the season, but if athletes are making money by being influencers on Insta, or promoting products on Twitter, a social media shutdown may not be financially feasible. So then it's up to the athlete to ignore/handle the inevitable trolling.

What's unfortunate is many folks are still doing it all over social media. "When he comes back they should bench him." "We need someone who doesn't read his press clippings." "We are better now than we were when Curbelo was playing." He's really only had 1 bad game and 1 OK game, both coming off a concussion. He's easily the best ball handler on the team, the one that can break a press the best, and many of his turnovers were due to his instincts being better than the person he was passing to.

I'm still on the Curbelo train. Criticism of course is warranted, but damn he really caught a disproportionate amount of hell to start the season.

I doubt that's as big of an issue as you would think. These kids have grown up in a world where social media has been omnipresent from day one. This is not new to them. That's not to say that it isn't potentially damaging, but they likely aren't new to that phenomenon. They've been hyped on social media since they were high school hoop stars.

People did the same thing to Ayo. It's crazy how quickly fans turn on you. I think this is true across all teams and sports, but it's just disappointing.

It’s insane. The “a day in the life” video with Kofi should be mandatory viewing. These guys are giving everything to the school from the crack of dawn until well after sunset, while going to school, traveling nonstop, etc.

Social media has enabled a generation of keyboard warriors that should know better.
Anyway, I digress. Hope the come out breathing fire tonight and that Kofi has between 10 and 40 dunks.

I'm not sure they should know better. It's the same group that used to call into sports talk radio (and still do), but now they have no filter in the form of people manning the phones. It's always been there. There is just now a direct line from the crazies to the athletes.

I mean, they should know better. But they haven't in the past and they don't now. They just have a new megaphone.

I would like to make a point in regards to Curbelo’s status. I firmly believe we are a better team with him on the court, no question. I watched reruns of the duke game last year, and the games when ayo was out, and he was spectacular. We had very high expectations for him this year, and maybe he hasn’t played up to those expectations thus far. However, he is a kid and he is only in his sophomore year of college. I was no doubt critical of his play early on this year and definitely had my frustrations, but some of the hateful posts that were directed at him, was just down right wrong. If we want to keep guys at Illinois, especially very talented ones, we shouldn’t go into full hatred mode after a few games. I hope it isn’t something like personal issues or emotional issues keeping him out, Because that is directly on us as a fan base. Maybe we had too high hopes for him? I’ll probably get some pushback from this post, but I’m not ready to lose curbelo, nor do i think we are better off without him.

my assumption about belo is it’s mental, akin to simone biles at the olympics this year. hope he gets to feeling right soon and twitter trolls stop being loooooosers @‘ing him

Sure we had high hopes for him! But to be fair he was on Twitter personally commenting on various outlets that didn't include him in their top PG expectations this year. He was very public about being the guy.

No idea why he isn't playing ball right now but if he is redshirt-able it would be crazy not to do that and save some eligibility.

Just think about saying how amazing fans we are and then publicly tearing down a 19 year old kid in his absolute darkest moment as a basketball player. The reaction from fans on Twitter and other social media was absolutely brutal and a terrible look for our fan base.

I'm not saying that we cannot be critical, but there are proper spaces (like here), not on a kid's feed. You may say you are just being a passionate fan, but most people say you're just being an asshat.
