WF looked way better than NU did and they played 2 hours apart yesterday. Meaningless rankings still at this point in the season.

NW lost to Creighton, TTU, GT, not Liberty, Drake, and other potatoes

I'll be there! This may be a dumb question-but will they be selling beer at the game itself?

I have been to a couple of NU games and they sold beer so I assume they will sell beer Friday night. I'll be in section 211.

Will be at this one. NW will be hungry, but they look very beatable. They don't pose the same physical threat down low that Wake did. If we can play fast and get to the bucket, I think we'll have a really good chance. If we are too passive or befuddled by another zone, we'll be in trouble.

Really hope we beat the Mildcats. Can't stand them

Need to play faster.

Don't let NW set up a zone, don't let them catch their breath. Illinois is deeper than NW. Get the starters tired, get them in foul trouble and the win will be easy.

This will be a home like game, and expect them to zone us. We did well when WF manned us, then they went to zone, we stopped moving , shooting, and not enough driving. My guess is that BU works on spread so much ,we don't spend time on zone. IMO us working perimeter take good shot , score a few times, would force them to play us outside, opening the middle. Still think we have not played a real full good game yet.;):illinois:

Maybe not "enough time", but I think he has a simple concept of attacking the zone. I think I heard him say high post and short corner.

Problem is, if we aren't hitting at all outside, then we won't have huge success against zone (same with all teams.)

Ill be in section 116 with 5 other people. I got an email form the IFUND that the Illini pregame will be at Bub City in Rosemont.

Just got my tickets. I'll meet you at the game. I'll be the one wearing orange.

First TV watch of the season last night. We've dropped cable so had to visit a pub for the game, which was just fine since I have some prior experience with that type of venue for viewing. Liked a lot of what I saw despite the outcome. I'll be in Rosemont in person Friday for the first B1G win of the Underwood era. Let's get this thing rolling.

Against wake we added a couple new spread looks. One of the “looping sets” and a switch between the guard and pinch post before initiation of the two man game.

Really hope for nw we have a couple more zone sets ready. We run a couple pick and roll sets but I think nw will be ready for those when they go zone. If I’m any team playing us right now I’m going into the game planning to play about 75% zone.

It is likely be another learning process. NU is not a particularly good team but they are miles better than Wake

While they are better than Wake, I still think we're better than Wake too and would've beaten them comfortably at home. And while this is techinally a road game, it'll probably be more like a neutral site or even a slightly pro-Illini crowd. Hopefully that'll prevent another reffing disaster against us.

I’m on call Friday night, and work Saturday morning...or it would definitely be a 12er instead of a 6er

Interesting. Going forward ,how does this affect game prep?

Example: In football, we often hear about a team not knowing which QB to prepare to defend against, the passing QB or the running QB. Better versions of George Jr. v Cam Thomas so to speak.

Knowing teams will probably play more zone, I'm thinking Underwood will, or should, work more on a zone offense in practice ,thus taking away from implementing HIS offense .

Does this make sense? Might it be a problem?

He’s a pretty astute guy, so I think he’ll recognize we’ve lost rhythm vs zones. I don’t think it really messes with our practice plans though. We play a 3-2. So when we’re practicing our zone defense, it’s pretty likely we’re running our zone offense against it. With college guys, I would hope adding a basic set here and there (not talking about more complicated spread based stuff) wouldn’t take more than a couple minutes.

They didn't look it against GT yesterday.

Agreed, I'm "told" NU is better than the Wake Forests of the world, but what evidence is there right now? We probably beat Wake at home and are 7-0, and this will be in front of a very Illini-friendly crowd. I'll bet anything that every soul over ~5,500 is an Illini fan. :thumb:

I say we play a nice, tough game with a lot of emotion and extend our winning streak vs. jNW to three games, returning all to as it should be!

Illinois 81
Northwestern 73

We can win this one, but we need to play significantly better. Stay out of foul trouble. Get into rhythm. Run the offense. We'll be fine.

I know we all hate nw but they probably win their gt game at home too.

We will be fine...

We will be fine.
We had trouble with Wake b/c we couldn't effectively drive with a chance to finish at the rim vs. the two 7 footers, forcing us to live and die outside.

NW cannot do that to us.

Expect a lot more dribble/drive vs NW, and expect a 7-10 pt victory.
