In an odd way, I believe that the unfortunate absence of TSJ for several games has resulted in an even stronger, tougher, more resilient Illini team now that he has rejoined the fold. Several players embraced their expanded roles and increased defensive, scoring, and rebounding responsibilities and skills in recent games. The growth of this team is noticeable. It was refreshing to see how his teammates celebrated TSJ's return, and how TSJ quickly began to reintegrate himself into the flow of the game, and adjust to the fact that others are there to help him carry the load. We now have a deeper rotation of skilled players on both offense and defense that will be a nightmare for other teams to game plan against as the season gets tougher. By far, the best team of the Underwood era.

The NU student section will likely be brutal … but other than that, not close to the Gordon game. And here’s why.

I’ve gone to 3 Illini games in Evanston. One where we sucked/they were okay, one where we were good/they sucked and one where we were good/they were okay. Those games were about 50%, 70% and 55% Illini fans, respectively.
Yea, but their student section will likely be the ones creating the noise and they've done a good job in recent years in bringing the noise for major games. I expect the student section to really get after Terrence. I went to the game from 2 yrs ago and their student section was pretty rowdy then so I expect it to be amp'ed up to another level

THIS. IMHO we are the best team in the country, and we will prove it in coming weeks and months.

Agree with this but their student body is closer to the court then us non-season ticket holders. So they can be louder than us Illini fans even if they are in the minority.

The one game that always sticks in my mind as a game where there was such strong hate and vitriol against a team was the Eric Gordon game in Champaign. It's always been my most memorable Illinois game that I ever went to despite the loss. I'm wondering what the atmosphere will be like on Wednesday night and if it'll come anywhere near that game?
That would require Northwestern to have a lot more fans and a lot lower percentage of its seats sold to Illinois fans.

Really not concerned what the Nerdz come up with in forms of taunts. Our play will keep them quiet. Have you ever been to a game at Northwestern? Their student section is super lame.

As I stated before, if TJ didn't actually do anything, any taunt will just fall on deaf ears. I wouldn't care what anyone said about me if I was innocent. Just adds more fuel to my fire to beat them.

If they get on TJ, this them will circle the wagons and then be even more motivated. If they attack TJ, this will turn up the heat. The NU students will react the way fans often do when their team is getting shellacked. I expect to be able to hear ILL/INI over the TV.

I’ll be very disappointed if I don’t.

We were so loud at Rutgers the play-by-play guys commented on it. And this was all alumni, because very few Illinois students could be there. Illinois fans who show it up had better be vocal. I believe they will. And wear Orange. Purple offends my eyes.

True. And they're only going to get tougher because these fans on the road are going to come down hard on TSJ and the boys will rally around that. Sort of the Mighigan thing in football. Illini vs. Everybody.

Though let it be said, I was firmly in the everybody camp when it came to Michigan.

That’s fair. I was also at this game - the Da’Monte putback slam for the lead?? 😎

One thing I distinctly remember is this was still when you were “supposed to wear your mask” when not eating or drinking, and I felt like that kind of lowered overall crowd noise.

One other side note is that I believe NU is one of the few arenas that still doesn’t sell beer. It’s not like everybody needs beer to be an energetic fan, but I think it contributes to a rowdy crowd, especially when our crowd is presumably not made up of many students. Compare your average Illini contingent in Evanston on a Wednesday night to our Braggin’ Rights crowd or the folks we brought to Vegas last year, and it’s pretty tame, lol…

I won't be greedy on Wednesday night. I'll take Illinois by just 1 please! Northwestern is a different animal at home and they will remember the beating they took in Champaign!
Meh. They may be remember it but they'll be powerless to change their fate by much in a gym that's probably at least 1/3 orange and blue.

Thanks for summoning that memory. Fantastic sequence. He ran all the way in from beyond the arc on that follow. That and the block at the end of the MN game stick with me. Illini warrior. :illinois:🏀

Kofi had a huge game(I think 20 or 22 pts), that Da'Monte slam, and then I remember Podz hit at least one three and had an impact

Definitely have bought beers the last few years at Illinois-Northwestern games in Evanston. Especially last year's game, which made me want to drink and was the beginning of the end of that team.
