I'm not saying this game won't be close, but that is quite a statement when Illinois just beat Northwestern by 30 WITHOUT TSJ just a few weeks ago...
Take a look at the game statistics, especially the shooting percentages. I doubt Illinois will shoot as well and Northwestern will shoot as poorly

The common sense thought is that the beloved whooped arse on nu WITHOUT TSJ by 30 points @ UI and now going to nu it won't be that much WITH TSJ........I guess I am puzzled by this thought process as I think we could beat the mildcats by more than 30 points......

Avenge the FB game loss and bury the hopes of the nerdy bunch for a NCAA tourny bid.......How about we win by 35-40 points and ride the wave of tears from the purple twurples all the way back home.......

I am being facetious with my above remarks as we should realize that the nerds play much better at home , regardless of TSJ playing or not........But , I do think this will be a double digit win by the Illini , as we have the weapons to demoralize their players and crowd if we play up to our abilities.......

The Illini this year have 4-5-6 players capable of reaching double figures in scoring AND rebounding........Our level of play ascended while TSJ was out as far as cohesiveness on offense with the booty-ball and passing helping to offsetting the loss of our Alpha Male.......

We are ranked # 10 in the country for a very good reason.....We are a very good to great team with an arsenal of skilled players willing to do whatever to gain the win......Playing for the name on the front of the jersey's , not the name on the back......

I firmly believe , with our squad back intact , they we are more than capable going to the second weekend and in fact going all the way to the Final Four........that is the confidence I have in the beloved as witnessed to the improved FT % , lower turnovers and a defense that on any given night is great and borderline ELITE..........

Without a doubt in my mind I profess that we will reach the Sweet 16 and with the right draw we reach the FF.....What happens after reaching the FF is what my dreams are made of ,,,,,

That first NATTY for the beloved Fighting Illini.....I really really believe we can do it ......I really really do...............

I'd like to know how much time of possession was consumed during all of the plays in which TJ contributed points (via fg, ft, assist) on Sunday. It may have been under 1:00 of clock time. 25 points. Shot clock had :09 on that steal and dunk because it hadn't even reset yet. It's like adding an extra weekend day to your week without having to take a weekday away. Lossless energy transfer or something.

I have been to all the Northwestern B1G games. The students pack both ends of the court and have all kinds of materials to distract the free-throw shooter. The students really get into the game and unless you take them out of the game they give Northwestern a distinct advantage. The non-student sections are typically made up of many visitor fans and the visitors are typically louder and more into the game than the non-student Northwestern fans. It is a tough environment to play in and unless Illinois plays their very best, Northwestern will beat Illinois.
I still remember the game in Evanston in '89, when the student section chanted "Kenny can't read" every time Kenny Battle got the ball. Lovely bunch of kids.

I'm sure that will happen and Illinois could still win by 10-15... It's just bold to say that if Illinois doesn't play their VERY BEST, they'll lose... to a team that is like 50 spots behind them in KenPom.

Unless we see them in the BIG10 tourney, this is Boo's last crack at us...he's had some major struggles against us in his career. He scares me in this spot at home during his last dance... He could easily lay another egg or pop off for 35 tonight... With that said, I think we just a terrible matchup for them. Illini cover

TSJ will be interesting

It is his first road game and since NW renovated their arena home court has improved. How will he handle the heckling? Understand there will be a lot of orange

Defensively and his transition games still appear to be one of the best in the nation. Offensively in the half court he has rust.

His shot looked good but it was not there. Didn’t do well behind the arc or free throw line

I suspect it will take a few games to get him back to peak performance but it would be nice to see him shut down Boo
Just play defense, set the other players up as he did last game. Don’t worry about scoring unless it’s in transition, he’ll get enough attention as it is.

I think he’ll handle it well given his character and quiet confidence and humility.

I think Illinois will be up by 12 or so with a couple minutes late. Northwestern will press, causing turnovers and the coach to lose his mind. Illinois holds on to win by 6. The week is spent on discussions back and forth over no PG and the coach yelling to much. Ending Saturday after Illinois beats the clown pants by 80!!!!!!

Crazy you just posted that because that's literally where Im sitting in section 109 behind Illinois.
I was at this specific game, and the side you can't see is almost just as orange - only reason it is slightly diluted is the NU season ticket section. A (smaller than usual) Krush contingent also came this year (2020 before the season was cancelled) and sat behind one of the baskets. I really am not exaggerating that about 65-70% of fans in attendance were Illini fans. The next year I went (2022), Illini fans were probably closer to 50%, as NU fans were a bit more excited about their team. Not sure what to expect this year ... I have been three times, and it has never been less than 50% Illini fans. On one hand, NU is kind of good this year ... on the other, a near-doubling in StubHub prices since it was announced Shannon was back indicates a flood of Illini fans wanting to go...

God, isn't it just beautiful??
One more thing to add to this that makes it even more impressive is just how many Illini fans wear blue to these games ... as your eye contextualizes how many Illini fans there are there and you pretty much equate that number with orange shirts, you quickly realize that it's even more of a takeover than it looks like, as navy and purple are really difficult to distinguish from a distance.

He could easily lay another egg or pop off for 35 tonight.
Buie has always been at his most dangerous when he is getting his teammates involved. Last time we played, Buie had 20 pts, but 0 rebounds and 0 assists (and they lost by 30). Even if he scores 35 tonight, as long as we aren't allowing him to impact the game in other ways, we'll be fine.

after last night's games, NW is now at 73 NET which makes this a quad 1.
For now.
Personally, I am cautiously optimistic they will wind up in the top 75. They're a decent team. On that note, though, as of today these are our only remaining Quad 1 opportunities (in green) ... so we need this one!

at #73 Northwestern
vs. #100 Indiana
at #59 Ohio State
vs. #47 Nebraska
at #21 Michigan State
vs. #95 Michigan
at #99 Maryland
at #121 Penn State
vs. #52 Iowa
vs. #96 Minnesota
at #13 Wisconsin
vs. #2 Purdue

at #52 Iowa

Only one Quad 1 opportunity left at home, and it's Purdue ... we have to be Road Warriors. Also, it's worth noting that OSU has been plummeting and fell from #46 to #59 in the latest rankings ... I wouldn't be 100% sure they remain top 75 if the losses pile up. Also, I think the MSU victory at home is a lot bigger than it felt like at the time.

He got Ty in foul trouble last time, but then, we didn't have tsj to help out. Buie was in foul trouble himself. Hit the boards and win the free throw contest and we'll be fine.
