Brad should hand this photo to every player when they get off the bus in State College. I never wanted to jump through my tv and throw hands with a player more than this moment right here.
Ugh. This flippin guy. Looks like cousin Andy from curb your enthusiasm.

Dain has shown some improvement this year- running the floor.

We used to play drop coverage defense (based around Kofi and our small size Trent, Alphonso, Damonte)

This year we play Switching since we have 7 mobile strong medium sized defenders - Terrance 6'7" Ty 6'6 Luke 6'7" Quentin 6'8" Marcus 6'6" Coleman 6'10" and Josh 6'4". All can cover all of the floor and muscle in post.

Dain needs to lose more weight, improve his agility and stamina so he can cover outside the paint. He should be a rebounding shot blocking machine but he plays with low energy when he does not have the ball. He rarely helps on defense. Good talent but one trick pony - bully ball in paint. If he wants NBA he needs to work on his game.
Did we get 2 mid season transfers nobody was aware of?:ROFLMAO:

The interesting thing is that a few years back, the B10 put an initiative to specifically focus on shots to the head. In how they called that season and the one following it, a player was deemed to be in need of controlling their body parts, i.e. if you inadvertently hit someone directly in the head, it was a flagrant 1. Plain. Simple. Easy. There were plenty of flagrant called those 2 years, some of which were on some truly miniscule contact. Well here we are a few years later, and it seems that if you clothesline someone or hit someone in the face after wildly swinging for a ball and missing by about 2 feet, so long as it's viewed by the refs as inadvertent, it's considered a basketball play. Players are being rocked in the face this year and it's just not getting called. Hell, even in the rough and wild 90s and early 00s, they'd at least call it a common albeit rough foul. It's pretty ludicrous what is being allowed this year. Wouldn't be surprised if the B10 reasserted this initiative in a couple years, especially after the Pac10 teams join.
I was just talking with a friend about this a couple days ago. Also, when the verticality rule came out like 6-7 yrs ago or however long it's been, they were calling it like crazy those first couple years. Now, you never see that call. Hell, I don't remember seeing it in probably 3 years at least

I feel that Coleman will feast in this game. Double digits by halftime? I think so

Really comes down to defense and spacing issues. Guerrier has been up and down but he can play on the perimeter and inside, would like to him be more aggressive off ball and on the offensive boards but he's a lot more versatile then Dain. My main issue with Quincy is when he occasionally gets the ball and dances around trying to drive when he just needs to get downhill quick or move the ball.

Dain has some moves offensively but you really don't need much offense when you constantly have TSJ, Domask, and Coleman on the floor plus Harmon and Guerrier are capable(Goode should be). But Dain draws another guy into the paint to clog things up for Shannon and and can get abused by guards that can shoot in pnr.
Really hope Dain hangs around....we're going to need him next year.

My yearly reply to a Weatherspoon mention. A great player and wonderful ILLINI but I remember most fondly a few years later a great guy named NEIL BRESNEHAN. A ferocious rebounder, bordering on an enforcer kind of player
Reminded me of a certain Red Wings defenseman.

When the situation required some cooling off an opposition player, coach would look down the bench at Neil and just nod. Two fouls later he would return to the bench
and usually order had been restored.

The kind of guy I would want on MY team.
George Montgomery, Shelly Clark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome dudes, wouldn't want to play against either of them.

Who did we play last month when someone undercut QG and he fell on his wrist again ?

He is really so freakin' talented. IMO, he doesn't always look engaged, but that could simply just be how he looks (emotionless). He is more talented than most team's backup bigs, for sure, IMO.
Every time I see impassive Dain I'm reminded of the adage "still waters run deep."

I thought Dain played well against Maryland. His offense was good as always, but he showed more aggressiveness defensively and was more active on the defensive boards than he has been in quite some time. If Dain is willing to try and defend his guy and is looking for rebounds, I think he's very skilled and very playable. I also think the reason he hasn't been getting much time this season, is he just hasn't been doing that when he's out on the court and he seems to really struggle with the scouting report as his positioning is far out of line with his teammates. So he's skilled, but I think to continue his career here, he really needs to work on some of the mental aspects of the game.

Agree with all of this. I'm very pro-Dain, he's still done things on offense I haven't seen for a long time, but understand his limited tick

The additional question is whether or not he'll be content to battle with Morez and Amani for PT next year vs going somewhere else.

I'd love to see things click for him, and would love for that to happen here

Yeah, if Amani's back fully recovers and he's healthy, I've seen enough in the limited minutes he's played to feel confident he'll get significant minutes next season. And I feel more confident in that than Dain staying right now. If Dain wants to start for us next year, he really needs to start stringing together high effort defensive performances starting now. Right before Amani's injury, I thought he was knocking on the door to taking most of Dain's minutes. And he's certainly only going to make it tougher on Dain next year so long as he's healthy

Think we are catching a break not playing PSU until after Cleary left the team. We couldn’t stay in front of him last year, so I’m thinking we really would have struggled this year too. Baldwin also looks like he can break down a defense but doesn’t look nearly as quick. Think TJ should be able to keep him from going off.

Limit their 3 point attempts and our turnovers and not sure they can score enough to beat us.
