I don’t see Dain getting much tick this game unless Coleman gets into foul trouble - it removes our biggest advantage.
Will be curious to see how we defend Edey down low. I wouldn’t mind letting him get his 20 & 10 while trying to limit the guards from going off from 3.
With Edey drawing 9.7 fouls per 40 (for comparison, Terrence was averaging 6.7), it's a big part of their formula for winning (e.g., they shot 48 free throws and scored 71 points in total in their win over Tennessee).
He rarely fouls out and averages only 2.0 fouls per 40, so on average is netting Purdue 7.7 fouls called per 40 by himself, which is pretty amazing. (For comparison, Terrence was netting us 4.4 fouls per 40 this season and Kofi netted us 4.2 fouls per 40 in his final season). Coleman will need to remain disciplined on defense to stay on the court.
Recall that last season's game at Mackey in early March was a tale of two halves, losing badly in the first half (47-26) and coming back strong in the second half (45-29 good guys), make it a 1 point game with just over a minute left before losing by 5 (despite Matthew Mayer shooting 1-10 from 3). Purdue is improved since and we have gotten much better and more connected, so will be interesting.
Edey is averaging over 25 ppg in their losses over the last two seasons (had 35 in the loss to Northwestern), so he is going to get his regardless. Outside of that match-up, we present some interesting challenges for them, but will need to take advantage.
If we bring it the entire game, play tough but disciplined defense and get a fair whistle on the road vs Edey, think we have a decent shot of pulling out the W. Though 2 out of 3 of those things probably won't be enough to get it done on the road.
