As many have said, be focused on Purdue; don't be looking ahead at OSU.

While I don't care much for Hoosiers and Hawkeyes, I have no special animosity for Boilermakers. I served at sea on different ships with officers from Purdue, and they were all good guys and effective leaders. We would kid each other and enthusiastically support our own teams, but it was a friendly rivalry. That said, I am looking for a stronger Illini team to go into Ross-Ade stadium, impose their will, and take control of the game from the first quarter. Go Illini!

Also on the second TD, after the play Heckel was holding his wrist. Seemed like he might have tweaked it a bit during the play. Not an excuse, but could’ve been a factor in him not getting his hands up.

I think he’ll be fine and frankly won’t see a slot guy like Lemon again all year.
BB said in his [resser that he will have to play with his wrist taped up but he's good to go as of now........

I thought that as well... Yet, he called a pretty good game, and we won, so I don't know what he could be peeved at ? ? ?
Uhhh his counterpart is underperforming and he is essentially responsible for being perfect in scheme and execution to cover for Henry.

I would be pretty peeved by that too but thats just me speculating.

Matt Bailey being out second half changed my perspective a lot on this. Henry was getting a ton of praise for his first half, and the defense could have easily held one of the best offenses in the country to 7 points if we hadn't fumbled at the goal line. Those types of situations (x2) are demoralizing and hard to recover from. In addition, you could tell Miles was hesitant to make big hits on plays when he could have caused an incompletion. I think Henry is getting dumped on a bit too much, especially given that we did great in the first 3 games when the offense was super slow out of the gate.

I'm with you, I hate this.

Watching these pressers is like playing Jeopardy, you listen to the answer and try to guess the question.

And yet there was a guy in my section screaming wtf was Lunney doing when Valentine fumbled....
Probably because he ran it straight up the gut and we all have PTSD over those repeated calls inside the ten that were inevitable face plants. :ROFLMAO:

A quick search around college football message board gives the impression that every school has the worst assistant coaches. Example: Georgia

Pru, I've thought about that lack of microphones for the press when asking a question.
There has to be a purpose/reason they are not micing the media. Im not sure what that may be, other than control or staffing.
The A/V department has the gear to execute. Its simple and easy. One mic aimed at press, XLR cable will plug from mic to same interface as coach's mic. This may require a technician (IATSE) at a sound board to tune prior to press conference.
So cost? Maybe to control a negative media member question from being heard? Is this requested by the media as to protect their content?
I dont know the answer, but I agree with Pru that we should hear the questions being asked. It seems lees than pro-series, from a department that is normally top-notch.

You can't just commit to blitzing. You HAVE to rely on the front four to get some pressure. If you blitz and don't get home, you're leaving our corners one on one in coverage. For us, that's an extremely bad thing because they are sub par players.

There were some people, who don't know much, who were all over Henry for his scheme and ultimately, his scheme was 100% right. He knew his guys weren't good enough in coverage, so his goal, all game, was to just keep the USC receivers in front of them. No big plays. If USC was going to score, he wanted them to eat up clock. No 45 second drives. It when we brought pressure late in the game that guys like Heckel were completely exposed.

That's what happens when you blitz and rely on exotic schemes. You leave yourself open to screens, slants and if you don't get to the QB, deep routes down field.

There is no defensive coordination on the planet that can keep his defense afloat without the defensive line creating pressure on their own. You can blitz/bring an extra guy, but it needs to come within the framework of the defense and the ability for your interior to collapse a pocket.

One more item of note. This QB is the guy who had an absolute field day against us last year, mostly with his legs. If the QB breaks contain, big problems.

Jacas, a couple of times, pushed the tackle back into the QBs lap, but not enough. He's supposed the be a game wrecker. He needs to show up in a much more pronounced way like....now.
While Bret has made tons of progress here, we have a few spots where we are "thin" on the talent side. D Line seems to be one of those spots. Jacas is a great player, but we don't have that 2nd guy that can create consistent havoc on his one to go along with him. When you just have one guy it's much easier to contain that guy than if you have 1 stud & another pretty good pass rusher. Of course those guys aren't a dime a dozen so it's hard to find them.

Of course we'd all like the defense to be a shut down D, I do think Henry does a pretty good job of scheming around some of their shortcomings. That bend/don't break style is mind numbingly frustrating to watch at times, but I'd rather make the other team string together plays than give up the 70 yarder due to a blitz that doesn't get home.

Get a D line that has a couple havoc creators, it changes the game entirely.
