The betting line is now Even. People are laying money on the good guys.
I don't know if there are legions of Illini fans who love placing bets or if random people just generally think we will never lose by as much as the initial line, but I seriously feel like the line moves toward us a shocking number of times. In this case, I guess it makes sense from a neutral perspective ... neither team has looked great, but Purdue's results through 4 games have arguably been just worse enough than ours?

Really, we have said it a billion times, but if the "real" Illini team is a less mistake-prone version of the one we saw vs. PSU, we can win every game left on our schedule, and we stand an excellent chance in West Lafayette. If it's the far shakier version we saw early on vs. FAU or in the first half against Kansas, we might be in trouble. If it will be a flip-flop between the two, well ... good luck guessing our results week to week, lol.

I'm optimistic that we'll win. Then again, I'm going to drive 1300 miles round-trip to see the Illini play for the first time in 15 years, so my optimism is self-serving (and protective of my fragile ego.)

I did, however, note your recommendation to visit Slayter Hill for the pregame Purdue band concert. So I've that going for me, which is nice. ;)

Purdue is interesting case. Did not fire their coach. Had him leave for home Lousville. 8-6 record was similar to Illini.
Not a rebuild.

Game is at Purdue so I would favor the Boilermakers but it is winnable.

1. no turnovers
2. establish running game
3. don't give up big plays on defense

I am seeing Altmyer get better every game. McCray had his best game in 2 years. Going to be a great game!

And no stupid penalties.

Remember, you can't bet on Illinois games inside of the state of Illinois. This money in our favor is very likely coming from non-fans outside of Illinois.
This is 100% false

They can be made in person at casinos or racetrack sportsbooks that have it as an option in the state of Illinois. Mobile applications are still illegal and not an option.

You are correct about being able to make bets on illinois-based college teams in-person, but at this point in the week, I am pretty sure the original poster is correct related to who is moving the line towards Illinois. Reading this board, there is likely a good chunk of the base that would put money on Purdue. The line is likely moving by big money from outside of Illinois.

As a complete sidebar, I would be very interested on how much money actually gets gambled on Illinois college teams within the state. I have exclusively bet via mobile device and never made an in-person bet in Illinois. I would have to think the number is relatively low.

No doubt nor am I disagreeing with the majority of the money coming from out of state. My only statement was about wagering on Illinois college teams in Illinois is legal at in person locations.

Bunch of states have legal sports wagering so the number would be small in Illinois especially since you would have to be in person. Throw in majority of the surrounding states have legalized sports wagering so no need to cross state lines. I live near St Louis and Missouri is not legal at this time. Ton of people cross state lines to wager on sports every day. My guess not a high number for Illinois football games for example. There might be some action on Illinois/Northwestern football and basketball games. Tiny % on FCS Illinois schools that is watched closely and won't see much action. If there are random high wagers on those games they likely get taken off the board and on high alert.

Somebody with a better recollection than me, have we run any traditional running back screen passes this year? With our O-line issues, and teams used to breaking through on us, seems like some traditional screen game could be what the doctor ordered if we haven’t been doing it.
We've run a couple screens this year, but they've been very rare. I tend to agree with you that with the amount of penetration defenses are immediately getting on us, screens, shovel passes, and 1 step timing routes, should be utilized with much higher frequency in our passing game than they are.

I might even consider using our own o-line issues against the opponent. I'm imagininging a 3WR, 1TE, 1RB set, with 2 WR left, 1WR wide right, and our TE lined up next to the RT. Just presume they're going to beat our RT, so tell the RT something like, "it's ok to get beat outside, just don't get beat inside and give them a quick shove outside if you can." Have Luke in shotgun and take one step back, send out the TE on a hot route towards the center of the field, and then give Luke 2 primary options: If the LB is zone and doesn't pick up the TE, fire it to him in the middle of the zone, and if the LB shifts to cover the TE and the DE beats the RT wide, do a quick shovel pass to the RB who hits the hole vacated by the DE and LB hard. So basically directionally use our RT's inability to block to open holes or break contain.

We've gotta win both of these next 2 games. Just gotta. Huge huge opportunity. I know these past 4 games have been ugly, but we've gotta find a way to walk out of here going into Maryland at 4-2. 4-2 gets the buzz back in the stands, makes you a contender in the West. Have to make it happen. However we can, just please make it happen.

And as an Illini fan that doesn’t live in IL (though I don’t bet), I believe there are just a few other Illini fans that live out of state.
