until we can get them sold , free fannies in the seats will not only buy concessions , thru TV, they will make other people who will buy seats want to be there .

it’s a no brainer to give a bunch away to our students or high school or middle school student until we can sell them .

I think every team should have at least one player named Equanimeous. Just saying...
Great name. My all time favorite is still this XFL player. His jersey name begs the question "Who He?":

Best case scenario is we get up and keep it on cruise control the rest of the game getting more depth players in for some playing time. Our turnover rate is a little alarming so far and I think that is the only way this game would stay close. (Bottom 5 in turnovers lost)

Huge stat I have mentioned each week is Time of Possession. (Top 10) Just looking at the Chattanooga TOP so far and it looks good for us. They have played cupcakes and will be coming into the Illinois game on a short week. Horrible time for Chattanooga to play us 5 days later, on the road and a team like Illinois that likes to ground and pound.

Illinois TOP

vs Wyoming + 13:12
vs Indiana + 13.06
vs Virginia +7.42

Chattanooga TOP

vs Wofford -10:52 (Wofford no points in 2 games so far)
vs Eastern Illinois -3:12
will play North Alabama on Saturday

ESPN research from a few years ago said 95% of avid fans become fans of "their" team by age 17. Doing everything we can to get kids in the stands should be first on the list.
My Illini fandom started at age 13 in 1973 when I went on a bus trip from my high school for a campus tour and football game. I was hooked and didn't even apply at any other school. Don't even know if they do things like that any more.
I became an Illini fan at age 8, which was 1958.

It’s so essential we change the dynamic among young Illinoisans. I’m an Illini fan because my dad and grandpa were (neither are alums), and it became a part of my identity. It was so entrenched that I cheered for the Illini in grade school in a town full of rival fans and maintained my fandom through four years at another Big Ten university.

“Reengaging alumni” is the absolute base/minimum effort, we need kids growing up as Illini fans with circumstances like me. We aren’t a private school, we are the state flagship. How many Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, etc. fans do you think went there? Our alumni will always be our most passionate fans, but we have to fast a MUCH wider net. U of I has about 500k alumni (IIRC), and based on most studies, that alone would make us a small fan base.

My father and brother were Badgers, so I didn't become an Illini fan until the day I stepped on campus.
Both my parents are from Wisconsin and went to Madison and listened to Badgers games on WTMJ.

Young me got to thinking back in 1982 or 83 that if Wisconsin has a team, wouldn't Illinois? So I jumped on the bandwagon early in the Mike White years.

Pretty good time to do it.

I never got to a game from the Chicagoland area, though. My first game was freshman year and I got to sit in Block I and everything.

Looking at the schedule, 8-4 is an attainable record this season. If we have a defense that keeps us in every game, the sky is the limit. And if we can stop with the bad mistakes, it could be even better.
But 4-8 or worse is very much possible if we continue to play sloppy football.

I hate to harp on that, but it's been alarming to see those old Illinois losing habits seeping back in when they'd been so refreshingly diminished last year.

It had looked like the Bielema message and focus was taking root. That needs to be the case for us to have success.

We haven't lost back to back games in almost a year. This is the most successful the program has been in awhile. Time to fine tune a few things starting with the turnovers.

I totally agree with the alarming rate of turnovers lately. Glad is happening now and hopefully won't during the meat of our Big Ten schedule. No turnovers vs Wyoming, 4 vs each Indiana and Virginia and somehow those 8 turnovers only produced that one FG by Virginia. Defense has played lights out and just need the O to keep moving the chains and hold onto the ball. Early in the season, but top 10 in Time of Possession and top 15 in plays ran per game.
