Always wondered . . . why does the home team wear the boring uniforms? Why not let the home team wear their bright colored uniforms and the visitors pack the whites? Is this just part of being a good host?
I just always sort of figured the higher seed got to wear whatever they want they just chose to wear white normally.

* LeVar Burton
* Viginia Halas MCCaskey
* Chuck Barris
* Meinhardt Raabe (Coroner in Wizard of Oz)

Why worthy of mention in this thread?
LeVar Burton... Loved him in Reading Rainbow, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and of course Roots... So my apologies when we win.

I always used to think of the blue uniforms as "unlucky," but the obvious correlation is that we only wear those on the road and you don't win as many road games, lol. It always kind of stuck in my mind, though, that the 2005 squad never ONCE wore blue uniforms. I remember vividly that the first time we wore them again was when the #6-ranked 2006 Illini strolled into Iowa City with a 15-0 record and a 54-game regular season winning streak (and having won 62 of 65 regular season games...), only to get absolutely waxed by Iowa - a game I unfortunately attended. Never really liked the blues since, even if I think they look cool... :p

However, since I am quite prepared for my last MBA final ever and have quite the free time, I decided to look up our recent record by jersey. :LOL:

JERSEY - 2021 RECORD - 2020 RECORD - TOTAL RECORD
Regular White
: 6-1 ... 7-0 ... 13-1
Regular Orange: 7-1 ... 5-1 ... 12-2
Flyin' Illini Orange: 6-1 ... 4-2 ... 10-3
Script White: 4-1 ... 4-2 ... 8-3
Regular Blue: 0-2 ... 1-5 ... 1-7

There it is, folks - the definitive science behind Illini jerseys and their undeniable impacts on our games. Then again, I could have totally made that all up and no one would even know! :ROFLMAO: But I really did waste all that time looking this up, so the moral of the story is put those damn blue jerseys in the CLOSET!

P.S. I was kind of hoping we would debut the blue "FIGHTING ILLINI" throwbacks at some point for a big road game ... maybe NCAA Tournament??
I knew it!
The 70s script ones are my favorites, with the classic FIGHTING ILLINI whites in second.

Something else that Norlander brought up is that the 2nd round games will be played at a venue that neither of the 1st round winners played in. Illinois-Drexel is at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Loyola-Georgia Tech is at Hinkle Fieldhouse. That means the 2nd round game could be played at either Bankers Life Fieldhouse or Lucas Oil Stadium.

I have been reading up on Drexel this morning. Interesting that they were the 6th seed in conference tourney and they got hot from the arc shooting 56% from there in their 3 games. They have actually shot over 50% from the arc since Feb 1st. Very peremeter oriented with their best player being their point guard. They also like to play a lot of zone.
Good free throw shooting team. Not sure if they are drawing fluid during the game, or teams are fouling at end of games. But shooting about 15/game.
6-9 forward weighs about same as Ayo.
Center weighs 239#The had a long layoff in February. Missed almost the whole month.
Looks like Bell a freshman took advantage and has improved during the layoff. More minutes, more scoring. Less mins for starting PG?
Wynter seems to be the man running the show. Stats seem to suggest combo guard/ lead guard.
Real efficient from 3 during conference tourney. I think made 12/11/8. About 50%.
Not a shot blocking team it appears.
Doesn’t seem to be a big fouling team either. Big guys averaged 2 fouls/ game.

I am currently getting my Doctorate at Drexel so this is a tough decision on who to root for.
Undergrad at Illinois, Masters at DePaul. If the Illini play the Blue Demons though, I’m rooting for the Illini every time. I feel undergrad is where you enter adulthood. It’s such a formative time. Grad school is straight academics and career development.

Fun fact: the Blue Demons got their name because the athletes used to where white sweaters with large, blue “D’s” on them. So they were called the Blue D-Men and later they adopted the name the Blue Demons. I always thought it was an edgy name for a Catholic school mascot until I heard the origin.

Never heard that story. Fun one.

About Drexel, I really want to see another 50-60 point drubbing from this team. Those first two games were unlike any I'd seen before and I've been watching the Illini a long time. With that said, hard to do against any tourney team. The 2001 team was pretty damn dominate until we ran into the refs...I mean Arizona.

Fun interview with Ayo in advance of our first round matchup.

Starts right before the 3 minute mark. says some interesting things-

1- around 15 min mark, says he’s focused on first round opponent only. Said he wasn’t even aware of who second round opponents could be. Hosts told him it was Loyola, which he said was news to him.

2- said he was with fine with his deep shot at end of regulation against OSU. OSU went 1-3-1 to cut off driving lanes and he practices those deep threes.

3- says he wants to into broadcasting after basketball.

For those that follow such things, odds on this one favor Illinois (that's not news) by ~23 points lol

There's only one alma mater in our lives. If not, some reflection is in order. ;) :alma-mater:
