Good free throw shooting team. Not sure if they are drawing fluid during the game, or teams are fouling at end of games. But shooting about 15/game.
6-9 forward weighs about same as Ayo.
Center weighs 239#The had a long layoff in February. Missed almost the whole month.
Looks like Bell a freshman took advantage and has improved during the layoff. More minutes, more scoring. Less mins for starting PG?
Wynter seems to be the man running the show. Stats seem to suggest combo guard/ lead guard.
Real efficient from 3 during conference tourney. I think made 12/11/8. About 50%.
Not a shot blocking team it appears.
Doesn’t seem to be a big fouling team either. Big guys averaged 2 fouls/ game.
I have a beach house that says those fouls ramp up vs. Kofi.

Undergrad at Illinois, Masters at DePaul. If the Illini play the Blue Demons though, I’m rooting for the Illini every time. I feel undergrad is where you enter adulthood. It’s such a formative time. Grad school is straight academics and career development.

Fun fact: the Blue Demons got their name because the athletes used to where white sweaters with large, blue “D’s” on them. So they were called the Blue D-Men and later they adopted the name the Blue Demons. I always thought it was an edgy name for a Catholic school mascot until I heard the origin.
That's a great story. Even in the '80s, the Catholic Church was sensitive enough about team mascots that Arizona State changed their football stadium's name to "Sun Angel Stadium" for the year during which the Pope was going to celebrate Mass there.

Speaking of Catholic basketball, there’s a new book out just today by ESPN’s John Gasaway (Illinois grad) about catholic college hoops. (Villanova, Gtown, Gonzaga, Loyola etc.). Looks awesome and I’m excited to read it. He was on the Illini Inquirer podcast last week talking about his Illini fandom and the program’s return to prominence

That looks excellent. ESPN's site had an excerpt from it about Hank Gathers last week. ~15 years ago his Big Ten Wonk blog was a must-read before he got together with KenPom.

New flag. Who dis?

(P.S. sorry for the wrinkles, @sacraig)
So that's where my flag blew originally! (see my post in post-game Illinois-Ohio State thread).

I saw this photo and was astounded: how did someone post a photo of my place, my flag? Same Chief flag, same orientation. same brickwork. (Except I hang/fly my several Illini flags on hooks, not a pole, in front of glass sliding door to prevent disaster for birdies).

I'm going with the same flag this weekend. I guarantee this: it just will not be blown away.

GO ILLINI!

The time between conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament is the second worst time of year for sports. First being the all-star break in baseball.
There are Champions League fixtures today and tomorrow. That's what I'm watching. Chelsea vs atletico should be good.

Hank Gathers. Wow. What a great player. And that Loyola Marymount team was so fun to watch. Defense? Who needs defense. We'll just score more. lol

That seems like a pretty safe bet actually. We beat Michigan by 23 on their court....without Ayo.
When favored by more than 20 points in the 1vs16 seed game, the #1 seed is 21-26 against the spread in the most recent years. Take that as you will.

Not very enticing action since it will in all likelihood be decided by how our bench/walk-ons play in the last 4 minutes. Knock on wood 😉

I posted this song last year after we beat Michigan at their place. Now that I see the team doing the BOOM stomp this song seems even more relevant. Love this Crystal Method version of BOOM!

If you haven't seen it, you need to watch it. If you've seen it already, you should watch it again. As we enter the final chapter of Ayo Dosunmu's time in orange and blue, it's a perfect time to remember how his journey began
Perfect time to reflect on the crucial role that good parenting plays ina child's development

And time to reflect on what we each might do so that an 8th grade boy never gets gunned down at a public park or playground.

Not sure if you need a subscription to read this, but a fun story about the Illin (and especially Giorgi and Kofi) in today's Washington Post.

I just found this one. Incredible. Usually the Tribune reserves its Illinois articles for scorn and derision.
