Well, 4 top 10 teams remain. Including the 3, 4, and 5 ranked teams.

Sounds fun. I'd say the BTT is delivering excellent entertainment this far.

Iowa just played a far more intense game, and it was later than Illinois' game. I like to think those things give an edge to Illinois in the physical conditionong realm.

Go Illini!

I'm really not impressed with Iowa's conditioning. I was thinking last night during their game, that they look soft muscle-wise. Not much definition to the middle school muscles they do have.
I am not a S&C coach, but I have trained my whole life and competed at the D1 level. So I believe that qualifies me to say this. They are soft.
Excellent point. I've made the same observation with respect to numerous of their players -- Garza in particular.

(And there are similarities between us. In fact I'm a little more qualified than you. I, too, claim to be a D1 athlete. I tried walking-on the baseball team. Unlike you, however, I have not trained at all during most of my life. And the Iowa players look like me.)

Minutes breakdown from both teams from yesterday. It's probably a small thing, but the Illini played less minutes per player and had a much less stressful game. I like to think this makes a bit of a difference.

like how the tournament is playing out for us so far. Revenge game with Rutgers, rivalry game/Garza-post-B1G POY award game with Iowa, and (potential) rematch with UM post-solo-B1G-champ fiasco in the title. All games that our players certainly have no issues getting up for

The Illini are playing so well right now, I feel good about this weekends games. And we have improved so much this season. For older fans like me, I'm starting to realize this could be our best team ever, since we never had a true center on the 89 and 05 teams, and Kofi makes such a huge difference out there. We are pretty deep at the guard position, probably as good as some of our best teams when you look at the quality and depth. I'm optimistic about Indy.

Iowa was 2/20 on 3s and still beat Wisconsin. This is gonna be a tougher game than the 1st one since Frederick is back for them. Win and it’s a guarantee #1 seed. Lose, and if Iowa beats Michigan then it’ll really be 50/50 if us or Iowa gets the #1.

I’d say it’s a necessity for our #1 seed hopes to at the very least not lose by 10+ points
We have #1 seed regardless of what happens today or tomorrow.

I'm just waking up to that as well. We were so dominant in 05, especially with the 3 ball, that I haven't seen this team as "better." But it really may be. Instead of shooters like '05, we have multiple slashers who can get to the rim at will. Add the most dominant big man in the conference if not the country, and this may be the better team of the two.

Lol, great post.
Garza's legs are soft serve, insert Jarling's custard cup gif.
Hope we run them out of the gym today.

To your point (now in bold), opponents often enter the paint, and then dribble back outside when Kofi is in the game. When Giorgi is in the game, they enter the paint and go right after GB attacking the rim. And they score 80% of the time.

Kofi is such a difference maker on D!!

I posted something similar in an earlier thread- while I think the ‘05 and ‘89 teams were “better”- this team doesn’t have any wholes - those teams overcame a lack of inside presence with excelling in other areas- this team doesn’t have that issue

we can match up with literally anyone which is a really tough tourny team

INDIANAPOLIS — Ayo Dosunmu is convinced tournament time requires a sense of urgency. He was quick to demonstrate that against Rutgers.
The junior guard scored 14 of his 23 points in the first half as No. 3 Illinois built a 19-point lead on the way to a 90-68 rout of the Scarlet Knights in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday night.
“I just wanted to come out and give it all I had,” Dosunmu said. “Tomorrow isn’t promised.”

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — As the one-year anniversary of last year’s lost postseason arrives, No. 3 Illinois is preparing for its Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal matchup Friday with Rutgers, which beat Indiana on Thursday, and coach Brad Underwood is not dwelling on the past.
“It’s a new team, a different mindset and it’s too much to think about looking back on something I can’t change,” he said. “We have been playing for a lot all year, we have accomplished a great deal and we have a lot more to go.”
The hard work Underwood knew it would take to get back was assisted by the roster’s new arrivals.

Plus they are a jump shot shooting team. Legs are the first to wear down and mental mistakes will add up. We are far more conditioned and Belo did not play as much last night so he will be fresher. Weiskamp still might be still affected by his injury as he was 5-13 from the field and missed all his 3s. Anyhow, we play like we did last night, we will play tomorrow.
