I am tired of hearing complaints about ticket prices. It is what it is. If you are looking for a bargain, stay home and watch it on TV.

You have to remember that people who enjoyed cheap tickets from stubhub in years past were getting those off season ticket holders. Season ticket holders bought in and then if they were not able to attend had to dump their tickets if they wanted anything for them. Now that the team has improved, the fire sales should end. As a season ticket holder, it is also frustrating to see the DIA cut prices on single game tickets. I am sure the DIA also wants to keep season ticket holders happy.

Ironically, I was in Kansas last week and went to the KU game. It was called a sell out but there were a lot of empty seats. In fact it was Homecoming and Iowa State brought their band. Could you imagine another school bringing their band to our Homecoming? Also, many of the KU fans that attended the game knew nothing about football. The clowns sitting behind me did not even know the rules (like wondering why their was no 2 minute warning). The students also rushed the field after the game. They all joked they were now a football school but then acknowledged that when they lose, no one will really care. That program is a stepping stone. LL will get out at his first opportunity.
beaten to death ... but the whole thread started with low attendance and two reasons were offered - years of dismal results and prices (and supply/demand) given dismal results - the last 10 pages have been devoted to the latter. I agree with recent comments re: special teams- I am nervous every punt; the 35 is not FG range. Defense will be solid and have faith in Lunney game planning, prep, and good play calling to counter stacking box. 5-1 for homecoming with West on the line! Mortimer: we're back

hard to argue with that. they guy is best remembered for college football, but he could do play by play for a chess match and make it fun, and he probably did. He did EVERYTHING at ABC for 40+ years
Very true, though him broadcasting The Granddaddy Of Em All on New Year's Day with the Big Ten and Pac 10 champions playing as the sun sets in Pasadena is just the essence of what is good in this world.

special teams are this teams achilles heel.
we are okay on receive, but both punter and fg kickers are way below average for us. I am nervous all the time they are out there
one or both may indeed cost a game

this is of course assuming that we would have reached 55K without decreasing the ticket prices. I think it would not be likely, and that a more in-depth examination of price sensitivity would show that the marginal value of having 10-15K addition derrières in seats at some price point X would yield a greater return than the $75 seats for Y number of derrières, IMHO.

And yes, GO ILLINI!
Not disputing they would not get to the 55k without the reduced price packages, but those came about as a result of a cause marketing agreement (and were limited to 5,000 seats) not an across the board price cut by the DIA, so they did not lose revenue. Actually, I’m guessing they lost some as I doubt the credit union was “charged” full price, but no where near the amount they would have with cutting prices on their own.

I hope that if the team keeps winning — not just this year but beyond — they do look at some pricing changes. Two that make sense to me are having some tickets based on location (the lest desirable seats) at a price lower than $75. It doesn’t have to be tons, and it creates an impetus to buy those tickets early since limited. Also, I don’t think they have reduced prices for children (though maybe I’m wrong). They should. Both those changes would still allow them to, for the most part, keep their general pricing structure intact ($75 tickets).

Some posters on this board may not realize our AD graduated Bronze Tablet with a degree in Finance from the University of Illinois (along with a JD, summa cum laude). As a former Illini football player, he bleeds orange and blue. Overall, I’m impressed with how athletics represents the university, and how DIA is handling (has handled) a significant rebuild of both of the major revenue sports.

As for me, if prior to the season someone would have told me the Illini would be 4-1 and favorited for the night game against Iowa and asked whether I’d pay $75 for a ticket my answer would have been (and still is), “Hell, Yes!”. (Recall the Vegas over-under is 4.5 victories for the season.) Call me a member of the $75 Club.

I hope we can focus on supporting the team and cheering them to Victory.

Let’s Go Illini: Beat Iowa!
While the above is all true and infinitely more important than what I'm about to say, I'm going to say it anyway:

Our AD looks like a football player, and I bet he could beat up any other AD in the country in a fair fight.

We are very fortunate to have him.

The 6:30 game time makes it difficult for people to travel from Chicago unless they get a hotel room. Mid afternoons (2-3 pm) are most convenient for Chicagoland to make it a day trip without getting up too early or getting back too late.
You can easily drive home to Chicago and be home by 1am if the game is over by 10. I am driving from Robinson 2.5 hours. When I lived in Chicago I could be in Champaign in 3 hours without speeding much. 🙃

Hot Da*n I love BB..........................I don't care where he's coached at , or for how long he coached there .....I'm so glad he is OUR coach NOW and we as a fandom are seeing some long needed confidence being restored in a FB program that has a storied past and a sordid past all wrapped into the history of the University of Illinios Fighting Illini.....................When I listen to BB's presser's , I come away feeling the excitement , the BUZZ , the renewed passion of
that " every day " guy mentality and the " Why Not Us " mantra that is so refreshing compared to the last 2-3 coaches we have had......

BB mentioned the lone loss and said something that inspired me about his ownership of the program ......He took sole responsibility for the loss to the punchface teethbaring rodent looking loosier head coach's team and still had a smile as he's realizes his opportunity to build a nationally recognized atmosphere here at the best school in the world........

let other coaches fall by the wayside in a profession full of great white shark's with the chum constantly being churned......How many here had any idea last Thursday that 1 week later we would have a great roadkill victory that so affected that losing team that they fired a proven winner in year's past and agreed to an outlandish buyout sum to elevate a coach with no previous head coaching experience (as far as I know ) trying to keep him form running off at the end of the season to another team.........Talk about anxious moves by a P5 program .....They really really were...................

fast forward to this weeks game against the residents of satanville and a familiar father -son coaching position......the son , eho is the OC , is being roasted on a daily basis by everyone in the realm of the squawkeye stench.............I loathe this program to our west and have ever since the dark one tried to sabotage our program with edited tape recording and banded with other lotharios such as digger phelps and booby knight to bring us down.....

Let's rise up Illini nation for a Saturday evening full of revenge and redemption in a neat package of kick a** whomping and defeathering once and for all the idiots out walking around..........................Again my prediction is .............................

Illini 20
deadbirds 9

LETS GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Noah Shannon spent time Saturday night watching video.
The Iowa defensive tackle did the same on Sunday.
Five times on his own, Shannon took another look at the performance of the Hawkeye defensive line in its game against Michigan.
It didn’t look any better the fifth time than it did the first.
“When we have a game like that, I take it personally," the senior said. “I watched it three times Saturday and twice on Sunday, and we didn’t have our best game on the interior of the defensive line. We should be able to stop the run."

Iowa took the field last weekend at Kinnick Stadium having surrendered fewer than 100 rushing yards in three of its first four games.
Michigan piled up 131 yards on the ground during the first half of its 27-14 victory over the Hawkeyes, riding the strength of its offensive line and the skill and patience of running back Blake Corum on its way to a 172-yard rushing performance.
Shannon said Iowa’s issues started up front.
“It was on us, not executing our calls well enough," Shannon said. “That was the most yards anybody had put up on us this year. You have to give credit to their O-line and their running back, he hits the holes hard."

I want everyone discussing tickets and fan support to see this… I want you to see during the 20 years listed below the Illini have had FOUR winning seasons and SIXTEEN losing seasons yet still averaged 47,000 fans per game (tickets sold), which is more than this year.

Illini fans have given this program incredible support over the last 20 years considering the quality of the teams. The Illini have literally been one of the worst 3 power 5 teams during this period and still sold more tickets than this year.

The problems with attendance this year are institutional. Its not about whether you or I will pay $75 per ticket. It’s about the DIA connecting 60k people with a ticket which they’ve failed to do. They haven’t even sold out the 77 club for HOMECOMING next week. Total institutional failure.

This guy drops on knowledge on our team.. listening to it now. The D is really impressive.
He couldn't seem to decide whether he wanted to give our D credit or blame the fact that we've played weaker teams. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out

A couple more final thoughts on attendance:

1) I think it goes without saying our fans are incredibly underrated and loyal, and the evidence is there that we have a HUGE “ceiling” fan base. Beat us down into depression annually?? There will still be 35k+ tickets sold to play a small school. Give us a sliver of hope?? 45k in the stands immediately. Give us a surprisingly great season following multiple 2-10 type campaigns?? No problem, we’ll sell out our home games and bring 35k to the Rose Bowl! I think we all know the potential is there, and we’re just overly eager to get back there.

2) On that last note, the program APPEARS to be turning around infinitely faster than anyone expected, and many of us are desperate for the fan support to match such a dramatic turnaround. Fans in the stands aren’t just essential for a home field advantage (think of the games mediocre Iowa teams have scrapped out simply because of Kinnick before…), it’s a huge draw for recruiting. Many players simply want to play in a cool atmosphere and packed house. Saturday is the perfect chance to show that Memorial Stadium can be seen as one of the great venues/environments of Big Ten football if the team is tough and the fans are pumped! While I’d love a sellout, the fact we’ll have 55k and what will no doubt be our best atmosphere since UNC in 2016 is incredibly encouraging! And … I know we aren’t used to this as Illini fans … but the intensity in Memorial Stadium just might make the difference.

Remember the last time we hosted Iowa in basketball?? We likely don’t scrap out that victory without the incredible home court advantage that is the State Farm Center. I’m desperately ready for Memorial Stadium to become the same thing for football!!
