Only comment - 100% of those clips had the guard shooting from 15-18 feet. I think if that was the result the majority of the time - we all would 100% support it.
We have seen too many times where Illinois opponents are shooting from 2-8 feet (and not uncommon for Illinois guard to pickup a foul). Illinois bigs aren't like NBA bigs that protect the paint.
That's a great point. The object is to make them shoot higher degree of difficulty 2 pointers, not a 8 foot teardrop and draw the foul while you're at it. That comes from your big being physical and forcing the opposing big to set his screen farther away from the basket then being quick enough to recover to the paint so the curl doesnt immediately put the ball handler in a comfortable position for a high percentage shot.

That being absent we absolutely need to clean up the foul from behind that still allows a guy to get a relatively easy shot off for the and 1.

Figured I'd get a 'can't trust AI' response from someone here. Fair enough, I just wasn't going to search any more. Any source from 20 years ago is probably open to questions, if you can even find the answer.
I found a few articles from 2009-2010 referencing the occasional attempt at running a matchup zone. But that was about it.

I posted this in the Bracketology thread already, but if we beat MSU on Saturday, we would double our number of Quad 1 victories vs. NET top 35 teams as compared to last year.

2023-24
W at #21 Wisconsin
W vs. #24 Michigan State
W vs. #33 Nebraska (BTT in Minneapolis, MN)

2024-25
W vs. #16 Wisconsin
W vs. #19 Missouri (St. Louis, MO)
[W vs. #24 Michigan State]
W vs. #25 UCLA
W vs. #26 Ohio State
W at #34 Oregon

The metrics indicate the Big Ten is a much tougher league overall this year (perhaps without as clear of a "top of the league," though), and we are benefiting from that when we can string together some of these wins. Even AFTER MSU this Saturday if we can get the win, we will still have 4 more such opportunities! And due to either the team's ranking, where the game is played or both, each would stand on its own as our best win of the last two years, as far as the NET is concerned.

vs. #2 Duke (New York, NY)
vs. #8 Purdue
at #16 Wisconsin
at #17 Michigan

Let's keep this ball rolling Saturday and start adding some REAL pieces to our resume!

Yes, the metrics definitely indicate that the B1G this year is better than last year and in years past.

Obviously, B1G gets overshadowed this year by the historic year that the SEC is having, but if you look at KP aggregated conference rankings, the B1G has an average Net rating of +18.03 (Offensive efficiency to defensive efficiency) while last year's average was +14.87. If you put this year's B1G in last year's NCAA, we would be the top conference by a point and a half.

There is also definitely an argument to be made that the B1G has the most parity out of any conference this year.

Limited practice time. You want to work on the stuff you run 90% of the time in practice time you have. We are also much better man to man team than zone team. Also limited time to work on BLOBs and SLOBs which is why teams don't have that many actions for them just a few core ones they rin We've thrown it in as a wrinkle for a few possessions.
Ref. "You want to work on the stuff you run 90% of the time in practice time you have."

Aha......this might explain why we never practice inbound plays...

I see ur point. What I would prefer is a hard enough hedge to stop the ball so our gaurds can catch up and then our bigs get back to their man. I see other teams do it all the time. In fact we get it done so hard on us at times it puts our ball handler in total retreat with no chance of making a good pass to our bigs and totally disrupting our offensive flow.
I'd advise jamming screens. MSU has so few shooters that if our big (top of the key) jams the screen firmly and allows our perimeter defenders to zip UNDER the screen (got that? Under!), Fears and company are effectively shut down.

Learning to jam screens takes maybe 3 days.

My point, from yesterday and today, is that a 2-3 zone is not needed. Indiana ran a skeleton 2-3 and that allowed them to beat MSU in East Lansing. I think (who am I? :) ) that jamming MSU screens is all that is needed, for our roster. We're better than Indiana, and better by a mile than MSU too.

A by-gone era. But you're dead right and that sort of annoying switch would work today too. In fact, now and again you see it employed, and it non-plusses a team and its semi-sentient coaches: "what's that, Bruno? What are them boys doin?"

Coleman was really good at guarding from behind due to his ability to block shots with his length and timing
I have had the same observation. Length, footspeed, agility are the things that matter in rearview guarding.

Will Reilly is a kid how could do that, but has to learn it. Tre can too, but there are other issues. It's not easy to guard from behind.

Not sure where else to post this. My son very recently took a job in Anchorage, AK. He's an Illini fan and looking for a place to catch a game and make friends. Are there any friendly places to catch a game in Anchorage?

I lived there for a few years from 2004-2007, but watched those golden Illini years on cable.

I used to frequent the Peanut Farm when I lived there. Pretty good sports bar.

Humpy's was a decent choice as well.

Revenge would have 5 quick fouls on Jace Richardson. But we are better than that, we want to beat them with their full squad and not lobby for phantom fouls.
