Any one have the number of games missed by "Starters" this year. One could assume Sky, Goode, Epps, Shannon who else missed games?

Solaris? No…what is that?

Is Coleman going to be running point tonight?

Is Nico playing?

Is Skyy coming back?

Remember when we needed Sergio McClain to play PG for us?

I do have a lot of confidence in Ty Rodgers, but man we are thin.

If Harris gets a couple cheapies we might be in trouble.

But Underwood has owned Howard so I still think we win tonight.

Long term, we’re way better off with Epps in the lineup. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

For one game? We might play better without Epps tonight. His defense has been very bad the past few games. From my perspective, that’s been one of the reasons for our slow starts the past few games.

The guy Epps is guarding goes off giving the entire other team confidence.

Honestly, I think we've been pretty healthy this year. Aside from Goode, nothing major that any other team hasn't gone through. Look at Indiana and their major pieces missinghalles. They've held it together. This is where our depth should come in to play. Healthy or not, this team hasn't put it together aside from some very good halves. We haven't lost a game for lack of talent.

Yup. I’m calling it. This will be the RJ game. 13 points. 3-5 3 pt. 6 rebounds. A couple of blocks.

He’s been playing really well but also within himself the last 3 games. Think he’s due for a breakout.
This would be so great. After "chilling out" a bit following the OSU loss, I started to think that a lot of our "effort issues" stem from just not knowing who we are if Shannon and Mayer are off. As has been said repeatedly, this team has all of the pieces; if we got to the point where Shannon, Mayer, CoHawk, Melendez, etc. could simply step up when the others are off that day, we really would be so good.

We rightfully remember our players from the last couple of years as studs, but they all had off games. It's easy to remember Ayo's triple-doubles and Trent hitting that clutch late three at MSU, but the reason we were so good these last few years was other guys stepping up. Look at some key performers in some of these games, not even counting less tangible but incredibly valuable thigns like Da'Monte and Trent being absolute studs on the defensive end:

2020-21 - Ayo the clear alpha, Kofi our secret weapon down low
W 80-75 vs. #7 Iowa (to get us back on track) - Grandison with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals off the bench
W 75-71 at Indiana in OT - Frazier with 19 after Ayo fouled out in regulation
W 73-66 vs. Northwestern (way too close!) - Adam Miller (3 threes!) and Giorgi both with 10
W 76-53 at #2 Michigan - Frazier with 22 and Curbelo with 17 with Ayo out
W 73-68 at #7 Ohio State - Curbelo with 19 off the bench

2021-22 - Arguably Trent/Kofi's team
W 87-83 at Iowa - 21 points each from Plummer and Grandison
W 79-74 at #19 Michigan State - 24 points from Grandison
W 60-55 vs. Penn State (PHEW!) - 14 points from Williams
W 54-53 vs. Chattanooga in the NCAAT - 15 from Plummer (including game-winner that saved our asses!) and 10 from Hawkins

Again, sky is the limit for this team if players like RJ have the confidence to step up when Shannon or Mayer aren't feeling it, and more importantly it will relieve the pressure on those guys and maybe allow multiple guys to catch fire at the same time.

The system should allow guys to get their points or at least opportunity. One of our issues in my opinion is 'ball getting stuck' in the flow of the offense. Ayo commented on this several times. You need plays where when you have not scored in 3 trips the confidence is there and if executed the % is high. Very similar to coming out of a time out. I can not recall who made the statement (Al or Billy or ?? back when they announced) that a mark they use to grade coaches is how teams execute coming out of a time out. Why? Organized approach!! 5 levels of plays -- 1) We score everytime with this play and can use to our advantage at crucial times 2) this play provides the ball movement we need and the game is 32 minutes so I want the defense to work, 3) time to go after the guy in foul trouble or need him off the floor 4) I need to show a different look 5) They have a player I can expose The coaching staff is in control of 1 thru 5.

Thanks for the insight - interesting Ayo said that, and even as a casual (non-basketball-expert) fan, you can definitely pick up on that at times. I will say, even when we look like a thing of beauty in transition, I rarely have any confidence that a "planned" play of ours will go well. My biggest nightmare is an NCAA Tournament game where we are down 3 and inbounding the ball after a timeout with a few seconds left, haha ... I am already mentally prepared for the inbounder to wait 3-4 seconds, end up chucking it into the "wrong" guy and then that player taking a deep, contested three that misses.

you are welcome Guys may not like the system which can cause issues in recruiting. I just don't think people have a deep perspective on balancing everything for the greater good. Once the system is in place and success is created people gravitate to winning and the best like Ayo find ways to 'get theirs'.

In my opinion there are only a few times in a game (half and end) where waiting for the clock to run down by just dribbling makes sense. Use the ball in your hand to wear out the defense and exploit your strengths.

If I was betting, I'd take the 5 points. Mich last eight they've lost 2, Indy and @Wiscy, and beaten
@NW
OSU
Neb
MSU
@Rutgers
Wiscy

They're on the bubble and have a lot to play for.
This 100% - and they’re in sole possession of 2nd entering tonight.

The average casual Better right now (this is a Thursday night non ranked game, this isn’t getting a ton of action) probably doesn’t know Epps is likely out or if they do, doesn’t know how thin we are at guard to make their $50 bet.
