I was at this game. Still one of the coolest sports memories I've had.

I don't perceive many "kids" knowing what a true rivalry is anymore. I'm a Junior High School Principal, been in education for 17 years now, and spent 7 years in the service before that. I honestly don't know if anyone under the age of 30 has an honest sense of the word rivalry and what it looks like... my generation got the mentality from our parents.
(Last year was my second Braggin’ Rights Game.)Did we win the cheerleader competition last year? We lose almost every year. I want to see a "W" in that too!
Robert's article from 2 years agoIf I remember correctly, we have won that last couple of years. We had a power pairing that was unbeatable, but I believe they have graduated. Robert actually had an article on it, but I don't know how to find it.
I encourage you to go - truly nothing like it!! I’ll defer to a season ticket holder for the exact sections, but I’m positive the Illinois side is always on this side:Just checked Vivid Seats and it looks like either a bunch of tickets have been posted for sale since I last checked, or the prices have just come down. Thinking since this is my first year living in the metro east I might treat myself and go. I'm sure this has been asked already but which is the Illinois side?
I feel travel sports has a lot to do with this. My daughter graduated high school in 2020. I followed her around watching her play club & school volleyball for 8 years and softball for 5 years too. She played on multiple travel teams over the years with girls from surrounding towns in Southern Illinois/SW Indiana. Teams that were "rivals" back when I played. When she played them, there just wasn't that same "rival" feel that I had back in the day. Not even the schools that there was bad blood with. I just think it's because these kids all know each other and are friends from playing together on these club teamsHow significant is this game to ANY of our players, honestly? Is this a rivalry game to them, or the fans? An honest question...

I honestly don't know if anyone under the age of 30 has an honest sense of the word rivalry and what it looks like. In my 17 years of education, I've been in 3 school districts, none of the kids and adults at those districts agreed on who the true rivalry was, or what the word means. The dads would always say one school whereas student/athletes, a different. The dads would say "X" school because of hatred towards the town, a player, the parents, a game ,etc. Today's kids say "because they always beat us," or "I don't know." I've had kids tell me schools they don't even play is their rival...
If you really want to have fun sit right in the middle of Missouri section, I’ve done it for both basketball and football and got the parents of Eric Gordon treatment. About got Into a fight in the bathroom at halftime.Just checked Vivid Seats and it looks like either a bunch of tickets have been posted for sale since I last checked, or the prices have just come down. Thinking since this is my first year living in the metro east I might treat myself and go. I'm sure this has been asked already but which is the Illinois side?
I was there....not sure of the exact time...but the Illini forced a turnover in the second half that resulted in a Kendal Gill slam dunk that sent the Illini crowd into complete bedlam....it was a moment that I will forever remember!I went in 1988-9. Old checkerdome, sold out, both bands there, students from both schools there.
The Flying Illini pressed full court and came back from 16 point deficit to win. That was first time we know that team would be special.
Memory Lane: 1988 Braggin' Rights
EACH WEEK, WE'LL TAKE A LOOK BACK AT A MEMORABLE MOMENT IN ILLINI HISTORY, THANKS TO THE WORDS OF LOREN TATE AND THE MEMORIES OF JIM TURPIN.This week: A lookwww.news-gazette.com
Not at my computer to see the numbers but if looking at the vivid map the Illinois section is on the leftJust checked Vivid Seats and it looks like either a bunch of tickets have been posted for sale since I last checked, or the prices have just come down. I was at U of I from 80 to 84...great years in both basketball and football. I am also from Moline, so Iowa has always been enemy #1. However, I do have a healthy hatred of Miznoz as well, and this game is a very big deal.(For background, I just turned 32 … so I’m not like a fan who remembers the 1990s or 1980s…)
Unfortunately, if you educate a new generation of Illini fans that it’s “natural” that Northwestern is our biggest (or even just an important) rival, they’ll learn to believe it. This narrative has already unfortunately largely succeeded on the football side of things, as you will see the Illini Barstool account (run by younger fans) posting cringe memes about Northwestern being like this huge enemy. I hope it doesn’t succeed in basketball, lol.
That article referenced Northwestern, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan and Purdue as rivals … 36% of the conference and a full 50% of the original conference are our rivals?! GMAB. Iowa is our true, fully reciprocated in-conference rival at this point. Period. Indiana is a historic rivalry, as well. The rest is noise and narratives people are trying so desperately to push (NU being instate, PU being our biggest competition right now, Michigan having very short-lived bad blood, etc.).
Conversely, I grew up learning to love the Illini in the 2000-2006 period, and guess what people said with PRIDE back then? That we didn’t really HAVE a true in-conference rival. NU was (and always had been) a joke, and Iowa/Indiana were down. MSU? Wisconsin? Uh, sure I guess because they were fighting us for Big Ten titles … but that honor was a revolving door, and it was our Illini who’d remain in the top spot!
However, there has been one constant for 40+ years that remains a Rivalry with a capital “R” every single season no matter how good/bad either team is, simply by virtue of the EVENT itself. And that’s Missouri. I understand some fans have never developed a proper hatred for Mizzou for geographical reasons, but … I’d suggest they give it a try!
#13 Illinois 83
Missouri 71
Probably the side with less tickets available is the Illinois sideJust checked Vivid Seats and it looks like either a bunch of tickets have been posted for sale since I last checked, or the prices have just come down. Don’t have a great feeling about this game. The atmosphere might rattle the team a bit and hype up Missouri. Hope they keep good composure and make it a solid half court game. Limit turnovers and opponent transition points and play good perimeter defense and come home with a win. Let them score in transition and make a bunch of open 3s and come home with a loss.
We’ve already won at the RAC. If this team can’t handle what’s likely to be a so-so Mizzou crowd filling only half the stadium to support a 7-4 team that’s lost to Jackson St., we’ve got some things to work through. Given the maturity we’ve seen out of this group, I expect them to come out and play confident like the better team they are and hopefully run away with this thing.
I was there too. Up near the top of the rafters behind the basket. Only Braggin' Rights game in person.I was there....not sure of the exact time...but the Illini forced a turnover in the second half that resulted in a Kendal Gill slam dunk that sent the Illini crowd into complete bedlam....it was a moment that I will forever remember!
Lay off the bean burritos brother. We got this!Don’t have a great feeling about this game. The atmosphere might rattle the team a bit and hype up Missouri.
