Okay, I don't care how bad they are or that their (crappy) bowl game is on at the same time ... Mizzou's fan showing is weak, lol. On population alone, the STL Area is about 75% in Missouri and 25% in Illinois. In addition, it seems obvious there are way more Mizzou fans on the IL side than Illini fans on the MO side, but I guess I could be wrong about that. Mizzou's campus is also closer, though not by that much.

I don't think I have ever seen the Illini side less than 75% full, counting the upper decks, and we have entered that game pretty bad before. Props to our fans, and I guess it goes to show just how hopeless the MU faithful feel with Clownzo, lol.

They have tended to be that way going back to the Norm Stewart days.

I find it interesting on how much BU seems to be high on shooting being necessary and how much he has valued DMW. Doesn’t seem consistent with how DMW’s role has been defined. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Demonte was already committed when BU arrived, and never seemed to waver from that commitment. He was one of the few B1G level athletes BU had when he got here. At this point it's trust, loyalty, and leadership that keep him on the floor. The intangibles that make DMFW a valued member of this team are not always easy to scout. If you can get toughness, commitment, intelligence, AND a sweet jumper, you definitely prefer it.

My biggest fear is who the refs will be........seriously............
Yea...if Kofi picks up 2-3 early tacky tac fouls, and we have an off night shooting....then we could be in for a struggle....would love to see Omar begin to put his ( primarily offensive) game together and become a force inside for extended minutes....we will need this from someone at some point this season

+ DMFW has saved his team's a$$es more than once with his Tenacious D, particularly when the program was climbing back to relevance in 2019-20. I'm reminded of Minnesota at The Hall in January 2020, when BU kissed his forehead in the locker room afterward. His block of the game-tying MN attempt under a minute left was the marginal difference for us. W/O him we lose that one at home to an unranked, middling Gopher team. He had zero points but the Illini were +14 v. Minnesota in scoring when he was on the floor.

Tough, denying defense is offense, as a coach of mine long ago used to say. DMW has been the man for that. It doesn't matter much whether he can shoot.

Just saw the line is -14. That is too much, in my opinion.

I agree that is too much. It’s all based on KenPom

Illini-14
Mizzou-145

If you like betting this is how Vegas makes its ncaab spreads. I think the Illini win but maybe don’t cover

I am pretty sure Vegas sets initial lines and then adjusts them as bets come in so as to maximize their chance for profit. It probably only tends to be similar to KenPom because lots of bettors probably use it to inform their bets.

One of those games where what can go wrong will go wrong.
I have dreams of Kofi getting into foul trouble, Plummer going 1-13, no Belo (well…that’s no dream), Grandison and DMW disappear and the only one who shows up is Trent.
I hope my dreams are from a drunken stupor and the Fighting Effin Illini win by at least 15.

On Trent showing up...it was 2017 that he came off bench and led us to last Mizzou victory...22 points.

That was also the game where we started asking...."who is Mark Smith"? Unfortunately that was also beginning of Mark Smith's 4 game winning streak in rivalry:(
I think he knew streak was ending, hence the transfer.

I also have multiple memories of us being in close games late, where the outcome is still very much in doubt, and DMW grabs a critical rebound to swing the game in our favor. He just helps us win games even when he isn't scoring many points.

Going to game tomorrow with 2 teenage boys. Any recommendations for places to eat before game???
Ty
Wheelhouse has good bar food, a ton of t.v.’s and is close to the stadium. But, it will be crawling with Mizzou fans and it will be very busy. I’m also pretty sure its not 21+ til 10 but I haven’t lived in stl in 3 years.

Caleco’s has decent pizza and is on the other side of downtown (near the old courthouse/arch). Lots of seating and its located under a parking garage so it won’t be a problem getting in and out.

If you don’t mind driving 10-15 minutes past downtown into the city, I’d recommend pi pizza (deep dish-ish) in the central west end (better than Caleco’s).

That neighborhood will also have a lot more going on than downtown. But I’d only recommend that if you were getting in town at least 2-3 hours before the game.

Those places are more casual places which I figured you would be looking for with teenagers. But, if you wanted to get slightly more fancy there’s a ton of great restaurants all over Stl, I’m happy to give you some of those recs too.

Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati (formerly Riverfront Coliseum) holds over 17,000.

Have bad memories of that place from the 1988 NCAA tournament ...

Where the #3 seed Illini - with all of the players who started for the 1989 Final 4 team in key roles (plus Glynn Blackwell and Jens Kujawa) - blew a 10 point lead over Villanova in the last 3 minutes of a second round game (by, among other things, missing the front end of 5 consecutive one and one FT opportunities while Villanova made 4 3FGs). Trib article: Free Throws Cost Illinois

The double bonus rule change giving 2 shots for FTs upon the 10th foul of the half was not implemented until a couple of years later, and likely would have changed the outcome.
