It sounds like very few people remember how great the tailgating was during seasons like 99-01 and 2007. That area can be rocking when there is a reason to be excited.

And I don’t buy the argument that IU has a “great” tailgate scene. It’s fine, but they are hampered by the same general disinterest about their football program and low attendance. That is likely changing based on recent success, though.

My point is it’s a social activity for the students, like it is at Iowa. Students with zero intent of going to the game treat tailgating as their weekly social activity that they wouldn’t miss no matter what. Even if they head straight to the bars around game time, it positively impacts the game day atmosphere, and some of them will end up trickling in.

Man I miss Saturday morning Kams with random sororities on Gameday

Brett McMurphy doing Brett McMurphy, just weeks before season starts. He's pretty good at that ha. He's usually right, too.

I feel confident the NCAA will come down hard on Nebraska. Just as soon as they finish punishing Arizona, Auburn, Kansas, NC State, Louisville, Alabama, USC, Miami, et al, they will be all over this. I’d expect to see some harsh punishment handed out in 5-forever years from now.
"NCAA Finds Nebraska Cornhuskers, Scott Frost Committed Violations, Punishment Moot

July 17, 2079

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The NCAA today issued a finding of violations committed by the University of Nebraska Football team and its head coach, Scott Frost, in 2020 and 2021. The findings indicate Frost was responsible for said violations, and as such the NCAA has declined to issue any punishment to the University of Nebraska football program or athletic department. No punishment was issued to Frost, whose peaceful death of natural causes earlier this year, at the advanced age of 104 years, made the issue of sanctions against the coach a moot point."

I'm curious to see what Coach B says about the investigation.

Hopefully one of the media folks during his interviews ask.

Is it just me or is this sort of a low key big game for both programs week one?

For us, last year was the year that it was supposed to come together for Lovie and it…didn’t. Was all that experience we returned just not that talented or was it a coaching issue? Can Bielema have success with the experience and build momentum for his program going forward? Or are we looking at another extended, 3-4 year, “down to the studs” rebuild? How we come out in week one will go a long way towards answering those questions.

For Nebraska, Frost was the prodigal son who was going to return them to glory and he…hasn’t. Advanced metrics say they were better than their record last year and were maybe a little unlucky. His seat has to be as hot as any in the country and he’s got to have as much pressure on him as any coach in the country and honestly, probably not a worse week one matchup for him than Illinois. If they win? Well, that’s what they were supposed to do “because it’s Illinois” and they haven’t learned anything. If they lose? That could definitely start a “here we go again” death spiral. A classic, nothing to gain, just have to hold serve game. Can Frost hold serve? On the road? In week 1? He may already be coaching for his job.

I realize neither storyline is sexy from a national perspective, but I’m excited for the game! Hope we have a good turnout and bring energy and, for the love of god, have a better showing that our week one last year. My completely unsophisticated football advice: guard the tight ends! Let’s hope we turn the corner with our new coach and keep the Huskers down!

The phrase "significant footage" is so telling here imo. Definitely seems like they are looking for an out to his buyout.

Also who thinks they can get like 90 kids together off the books for workouts and not have one person there spill it? And then on top of it go 3-5 and getting dismantled by US!? And losing at home to a Minnesota team with 33 freaking players out with COVID???

Embarassing.
