OMG that would be the worst

EDIT: Ed Morrow taking it to us would be pretty rough too.

Watson is a good player already, so him going off is a real possibility, but I think between Tate and Lewis we can offer some good defense against him. Morrow only sees about 13 minutes a game, so him going bananas isn't as likely. Should he and his motor get some tick, I worry about Finke having to chase him off the boards. I would love to see him and Leron do battle. I think this is a game where DJW gets some more playing time. I see some match up problems for us here, but give the effort we gave against Purdue, I say we win.

can someone elaborate a bit? thought he was done for the season

A meniscus tear has two different surgical options.

The first is a repair. This is what Derrick Rose did his first meniscus tear. This is where you stitch up the torn region of tissue and wait for it to heal together on its own. This puts an athlete out for ~1 year (maybe less, depends on the rehab). This carries are fairly high risk of re-tearing the injury, especially if you're highly active. However, if you don't re-tear it, it leads to the best long term outcomes. If Throne did this procedure he would not play again this year.

The second option is removal of the damaged tissue. This is what Derrick Rose did his second tear, Dwayne Wade did when he tore his in college, and Leron Black did this year. This has a massively reduced timeframe for return to full activity, usually 4-6 weeks. His injury occurred late November, so he would've gotten surgery shortly after that, which puts us right at 6 weeks today. He could definitely come back soon if he went with this (I assume he did considering the ambiguity of the redshirt situation- especially if he plans to play professionally somewhere).
Unfortunately, this repair commonly leads to premature osteoarthritis in the repaired knee.

That is one of the most elaborate elaborations I have read. Nicely done!

Good synopsis. Only thing I'd change is that on option one where you repair the meniscus it's not a one year recovery. It's typically 4-6 weeks of non weight bearing or toe touch weight bearing in a brace followed by gradual increase in exercise. Typically meniscal repairs take about 4-6 months until "fully healthy" provided there's no accompanying issues like a torn ACL.

Thought this was pretty interesting... DraftExpress last updated their D1 freshman rankings on 12/23, and our very own DJW comes in at #39 ahead of some interesting names, including Charles Matthews, Malachi Richardson, Juwan Evans and our very own JCL...

If this list were updated today, I imagine the rankings wouldn't change too drastically...but it definitely seems that potential/ceiling play a big part in these rankings, and I'm sure being on the DraftExpress radar since 2012 hasn't hurt Williams' case...just thought it was especially interesting considering numerous players below him on the list were not only ranked higher coming out of high school a few short months ago for similar reasons, but have also made bigger impacts on their respective teams so far.

Looks like I'm not the only one chuggin the DJW kool-aid!

Black's surgery was before the season. Is it confirmed he had a second procedure done? I thought it was just some swelling and soreness keeping him out.

I'm not sure. I remember seeing he tore his meniscus, but even that could be wrong. So unless he tore his meniscus in the spring and got the first procedure done, then I would be shocked if he played this early in the season. I thought the injury was early fall, which would mean that the removal option would make the most sense.

Never heard of Andrew White. He's lighting it up. I expected to click the stats and see that Shields had been doing all the heavy lifting.

White is performing @ All B1G level right now. I watched a little of the Rutgers game (Neb won 90-56) and White almost had a double/double...28/9. I saw him make 4 threes. This game will be closer than people think.

I hope not

Seems like Nebraska is a poor mans version of us. 2 high volume scorers and weak defensively. But seems like Nebraska is even worse than us on D.

I'm sippin the kool-aid with you. I was even impressed when he committed a bad foul going for a rebound against Purdue late. I always notice how tall he is when we shake hands at the end of the game. He has a T-Mac build, and is extremely smooth. DJW is the reason I stated that the 15 class is greater than 09.

2 notable plays from DJ so far this season -- taking Deyonta Davis to school off the dribble/finish at the rim and blowing by Caleb Swanigan for the dunk last game against Purdue! It's a small sample size, but he's humbled 2 MCDAA's! Can't wait for this kid to develop.

Haha, I can't wait until he goes up against Diamond Stone. Yes, the sample size is small, but he's only had 6 FG's all year. :D

I'd happily have Diamond Stone guard DJ. In the words of Stacy King, that would be "free cheese".

Nebraska is crushing Minnesota tonight. Hopefully the Gophers are really bad or Saturday might be tough.

Fire Pitino!! This is year 3! No excuses! Minnesota needs to stop settling for mediocrity and clean house!!

They beat Minny tonight 84-56. Minny's really bad, but putting up back to back a 90 and 84 shows some offensive firepower.

Should be a fun game, both teams can score.

I mean, we put up 84 against Purdue ;)
